Sixth of Britain's cellphones have traces of poo on them

Mark Wilson

When I am in a classroom I always put the kids off eating in an IT room by pointing out the fact that most home computer keyboards have more bacteria than a toilet seat. A lot of them suddenly loose their appetite. I suspect those who don't probably don't wash their hands anyway.

Yet Another Remote

Really how many do I need? And do I care that my devices use a trickle of electricity overnight. Compared to some the real leccy eating horrors in a house your average TV's standby requirements are negligible. Putting the fridge in the garage would help a lot as fridges use lots as does anything else with a pump (central heating, fish tanks, etc...).

Ultra-cheap HP TouchPads to hit UK at 6pm

Sold out

Both PC World & Dixons - at that price it is disposable and even if you just use for email and browsing for a couple of years it is worth it. Comet seem to have it in stock but haven't reduced prices.

People don't want tablets, they want iPads

Solution for a non existant problem

I wonder how many people have juicers sitting unused in their kitchen because it is far easier (and probably cheaper) to buy juice from Tesco, I know we have.

How long before all those iPads are doing the same, what are they good for? browsing the net - as long as you don't come across flash. Watching movies - as long as you don't mind spending hours converting the film and then getting tired holding the thing. Really what is its point other than to make Apple even more money.

What can I do with an iPad which I can't do with my iPhone and Laptop, neither of which would be made redundant as a result of buying a tablet.

From the M$ School

Sounds like the sort of rubbish Word pumps out. Even Dreamweaver is getting worse when it comes to coding, telling me I have a syntax error as soon as I start typing a line. We are now moving over to Aptana.

Thumb Up

Freesat soon

Hopefully this means we will get Dave on Freesat as it is already on Freeview and Sky, we feel a little left out.

Crypto shocker: 'Perfect cipher' dates back to telegraphs

Mark Wilson

Not so simple

That is why you also encrypt spaces making it impossible to see where words start and end. As each shift is only used for one character it is still of no benefit to find the odd short word as they would carry no real meaning for the remainder of the message.

Sony to can MiniDisc Walkman

Big in Japan

I still have mine kicking around somewhere but they were never a real hit here but in Japan they were quite popular and there was a 1 Gig version released which allowed for much more music on a single disc.

Now of course you can buy a Sansa Fuze which plays back FLAC lossless audio from a micro SD card upto 32GB in size which allows for a lot more music with the advantantages of removeable media.

Microsoft warns on support scams

TCP/IP?

I like trying different tactics with these guys and seeing what they come up with.

One of my favourites is "how did you get my number?" the response was "throught the Internet protocol"

Vodafone touts low-tech phone for app-phobes

3x the price

Wow, they are charging 3 times what I paid for my Nokia 2110 and that included £10 airtime.

Elite coder readies £15 programming gadget for schools

Mark Wilson

Great for me

I want one to play with but as for my students, they can get a free copy of Visual Studio Pro from Dreamspark which is a bit more useful.

Apple confirms white iPhone 4 on sale tomorrow

Eventually

They have released the iChav for those cider drinkers in their white shell suits sitting in a shopping centre. The perfect match.

People watch movies on stuff

Stop

I want it now

I only have a 2Mb/s connection, it is quicker to go order on Amazon than to download, as for streaming even youtube stutters badly. Until netspeeds increase drastically this sort of thing will remain the preserve of a few lucky ones.

Fujitsu £2bn broadband project throttled at both ends

Back to the two tins and a piece of string

Living in a brand new house of a new city and our connectivity is something like:

ADSL:2Mb/s on a good day

Mobile signal: 1-2 bars on a 2G signal

Snail Mail: It occasionally gets to the right house

FedEx: Forget it

Cable TV: No

WiMax: Despite MK council setting up a company, no signal.

Roads: local council wants entire area to be 20Mph

Perfect location for hermits, and those trying to escape 21 C life.

Please can HM Gov give Fujitsu some money.

BT reveals fibre-to-the-cabinet plans for 156 exchanges

FAIL

So still rotting here

Living in an area which would be easy for them to upgrade due to modern ducting between us and the exchange, still stuck on a lousy 1Mb/s

Named: Ten towns with slowest mobile broadband

Mark Wilson
FAIL

MK Again

No surprise really that MK tops the table. We also get lousy broadband in many parts and I am lucky if I get enough mobile signal to make a voice call.

BT fibre-to-the-premises trial takes 7 hours per install

Mark Wilson
FAIL

You Forgot Me

We live on one of the newer estates covered by Bradwell Abbey and are at the end of a 6km phone line giving us a thunderingly fast 1.5mbps, are we getting fttp during the trial? No. So we also don't get FTTC due to the trial going on and OpenReach won't commit to installing anything afterwards either.

Virgin Media 'overwhelmed' by broadband customers fleeing BT

Mark Wilson

Not Surprised

I used these guys before, never again, shoddy service and I had to use a premium rate number to tell them about a fault on the line. I got out as soon as I was able to do so, they still tried charging us for six months after they ceased providing us with ADSL, then they told me they were still providing me with an ADSL service alongside our new provider.

A quarter of UK adults to go on child protection database

Mark Wilson

Again?

So lets get this straight, although I have been CRB checked and have been working with children continually since then and the school I work in would have been informed had I done anything, I now have to pay a further £64 of my hard earned cash to again prove my innocence.
