i went recently with my kids who were about my age at the time of the stuff in the 80s.. i made them watch the videos shown that we used to see on tv and we had to stop watching them as they got scared. i said this is what we had to live through at your age.. great to visit and will do again without the kids so i can read everything properly.

p.s does anyone remember the other series that was on tv of a dad built a bunker in his house and tricked the family into thinking nuclear war had started? eventually the kids found out it hadnt at all and thats how it ended...

not only did i use lotus 1-2-3 a lot in the old days but also the rather awesome add one called always 1-2-3 which added decent grafics to it and allow charts to be displayed on the screen at the same time ala windows style

getting worse..

since insta has been opened to android and also now they cant use your udid to block people on apple devices it will ultimately get worse.. i block around 3 or 4 people daily.. sick of it now. insta need to start being more proavtive on this spamming and find a way to stamp it out.

..and...

the fact youve been able to do with statigram for god knows how long doesnt really make this anything important. statigram is still way better as it has chat client built in as well..

i worked closely with lexmark during my time with RBS... repacking their drivers was an absolute mare but HP's were far worse. on the other hand the devices were better made than the comparable hp models.. and yes the lexmark rep i used to see and speak was lovely on the eyes

these are actually very nice cars and those hating are clearly "badge snobs". i have driven these when some arrived at the local docks where i used to work. Hyundais in general are well specced and good value for money, depreciation is really no worse than say a vw only you pay a lot less on the forecourt. after sales service is very good as well..

our spectrum 48k infact had grey keys as per the original advert.. it was the later ones that had the more bluey looking keys (our first one btw the serial number was in the hundreds, the second one we had once the first went wrong was in the thousands and still had a grey keyboard)..

btw its a cpc464 not a cpc64.. i assume thats just a typo :o)

i worked for amstrad during the +3/sinclair pc200 days... great times!!

useless vodafone sure signal..

i had one of those useless things as did my grandad. utter waste of money and tbh vodafone would be better spending the money they robbed from me on improving their crap coverage of 3g

well worth it..

ive read some many reveiews putting this game down but i still went ahead a purchased it and glad i did.. its better than modern warfare in terms of the online play imho and closer to battlefield 2. i dont buy these games for the single player experience as online is the place to be. i love the new maps not too small but not too big.

BUY IT!!

p.s cant wait for cod: spec ops!!

p.p.s those with a pc buy a console and see what your missing.. i never thought id enjoy games on anything else but a pc but how wrong was i

some people are so jealous...

i worked for amstrad from 1990-96. I worked on the helpdesk for about 2 years or so and the rest in r&d for the pc divison.

the reason we went to the old 0898 numbers was stop people calling us all the time to help them reinstall dos and windows. many times i spent on the phone for 3hrs taking through it from start to finish only to get the next person moan it took so long to get through etc etc. so switched to premium rate, stopped all the long calls allowing people with real issues to get through.

the 2000series issues were seagate and WD fault with their crap drives and controllers, which as already said was sorted out and they had to pay out a vast amount of money but yes was a bit late as the damage was done. by the time i helped develop the 5000 series and above we were using the same kit as everyone else (seagate hd again, sony floppy and cd drives, creative labs sound cards etc) and these were very good quality machines at good prices and well built (i knew the guys and girls who hand built them in shoebury). also the mega pc was a great idea (pc and mega drive in the same box) and not one other company came up with something so imaginative. and we were the first ones to come up with the combined tv and pc in a box as well!!!

at the same time the guys developing some of the sound products were making kit cheap using great surround sound hardware that at the time only the high end makers were using and charging the earth for but we wasnt.

my time at amstrad was fantastic and we was at the cutting edge of pc stuff.. we were very close to intel and i saw so many new processors long before normal punters did.

i had a lot of contact with alan in the last few years as hes a hands on bloke and he dont take any crap from anyone and likes a straight answer from people... good luck to him he knows what he is doing!!!

no problems for me....

well i dont know what all the fuss is about ive installed the patch (on 3 normal pc's and also on my macs bootcamp/parallels setup) and also the slipstreamed version and had no problems whatsoever. is this another case of people with crap hardware or setups with loads of dodgy software installed.. but as usual blaming the last thing that touched their pc?????

Andy

@philip

just because you dont like a company doesnt make the format/hardware rubbish. you need to grow up and smell the coffee.

macbook

if your going to review the mac also get yourself a windows xp partition using bootcamp and then install parallels then you can use it in coherance mode and you have the best of both worlds. ive been using this setup on my macbook for over a year now and i will never go back to just a pc

blueray: why do people keep saying...

SONY... its just a member of the The Blu-ray Disc Association (BDA) which is the industry consortium that develops and licenses Blu-ray Disc technology and is responsible for establishing format standards and promoting business opportunities for Blu-ray Disc. The BDA is divided into three levels of membership: the Board of Directors, the Contributors, and the General Members.

The "Blu-ray Disc Founder" was founded in May 2002 by nine leading electronic companies: Sony, Matsushita, Pioneer, Philips, Thomson, LG Electronics, Hitachi, Sharp, and Samsung. Spearheaded by Sony Corporation, on February 19th 2002 the companies announced that they were the "Founders" of the Blu-ray Disc and later changed their name to the "Blu-ray Disc Association" on May 18, 2004 to allow more companies to join their development. Some examples of companies that signed in include Apple, TDK, Dell, Hewlett Packard, The Walt Disney Company, Warner Bros. and Universal Music Group. As of December 2007, there are more than 250 members and supporters of the Association.

to kenneth...

"saying that i have one bad experiance in pcworld with a sales person telling me that you couldn't buy non wireless routers . to her credit when i told her other wise she appologised and said that she was new and was still getting up to speed."

thats all well and good your quote, but what happens when its a normal punter that doesnt know otherwise. They would be sold something on incorrect details... if she didnt know the answer instead of blagging it find out!!!!

i love pc world.... their staff give me something to laugh about on a boring day listening to the crap that spills from the "tech guys" mouths

atari ST same...

sound chip as a spectrum 128k.. says it all really, all they had over the amiga as mentioned was a midi interferace, and really how many people actually used that for playing games??!! just admit the amiga WAS the far superior machine.

ive gone off to BT and im happy with the service (but then its not gone wrong yet)

Andy

well i like it...

ive had mine for a week now and love it..

i dont particullary play games so im happy with the new button presses instead of the joystick (i had 3 different k800i's and the joystick was always sticking so was a pain in the arse).

i couldnt care less about the fingerprints.. any phone with a shiny case is going to suffer that and i think people moaning about are just trying to find things to moan about!!

buttons are a bit weird to start with but at least they wont suffer with the same problem as the k800i... ie the labels coming off the keys (very annoying and is a known problem with that model)

i love the camera and it makes it feel more like a proper camera now than a phone with a camera and its much quicker to move between the modes now they have used the keys 3 to # to allow you change them.

the soft keys are fantastic and i love them cant see why people are having problems with them and the person saying they keep getting empty texts... have the phone on autolock and you wont have an issue.

the only issue i would have mentioned was that the software doesnt auto sync but the cd supplied is already out of date and the updated version from the site allows that now so my contacts and diary from work are now synced every half hour.

and lastly the flash can now be used as a torch (dont remember that option on the k800i) which is usefull as it the SOS option it has .. if i ever get stuck somewhere i need it that is

Andy

woohooo

just pre ordered my copy and ive paid the princely sum of £70.50 including vat and delivery.. ah the benefits of working for a big bank that has a deal with apple

must say im slightly disapointed by the fact theirs only version, feel kinda left out seeing as the MS crowd get to choose from half a dozen versions of vista **SUCKERS!!!!** lol

Andy
Flame

utter rubbish

firstly i see they want to make the roads safer for cyclists.... is this the same cyclists who choose to ignore traffic lights and just do as they please??? or are the police going to crack down on that as well??

then i can do 20mph and still kill someone.. just mount the pathway and mow as many as i like down.. least im sticking to the speed limit eh!

what the government should be doing is spending more money on teaching road safety to kids (like they used to in the 70s when i was a kid) and also put a limit on the size engine new drivers can use (like motorbike rules), seeing as a 17yr old muppet with no expereince can get into any high powered car having no idea how to drive at any speed and kill.

this governent sucks and they wont stop till were all on those crap bendy busses that 1. catch fire or 2. end up killing you by running you over !!

Andy
Paris Hilton

rubbish

from my own experience vista is crap.. i was really looking forward to it but was so disapointed..

first the slow response when copying network files or doing anything else network related and this was on a macbook pro with proper vista drivers, but the same problem on my father inlaws dell which i decided to buy as an XP build but decieded to give vista another chance and wish i hadnt bothered as i had no end of driver issues (and this is a brand new dell which is vista ready apparently) so went back to XP and low behold everything works perfect first time.

people go on about apple fanboys but on this vista subject i cant believe how many ms fanboys are out their and blinkered by pretty graphics but the useless implementation of legacy hardware/software support

im running server 2008 which looks like vista but seems to not have any of the problems vista has with slow networking so maybe the vista programmers want to have a work with the 2008 ones and find out what theyve done wrong.

p.s whats the paris hilton angle on this story??

p.p.s buy a mac and run XP via parallels its all so much better then

anthing new?? comment

firstly dont be scared... why post anon??

well done reg on the roundup and letting the poor guys and girls turfed out a soap box for their feelings/comments... i was made redundant from amstrad 12yrs ago and from reading their comments felt the same way a lot of the evesham ex employees are felling (we was promised buying viglen would not affect our pc division, but it did)

i feel for you guys and hope you all get the money owed to you and also find new jobs quickly.. good luck to you all!!!

Andy

Missing the point. re:simon westerby

So basically the point is the users are idiots for assuming something instead of asking someone with some braincells... again its not MS fault people are thick!!!

Andy

Good luck to him i say...

people seem to have a lot to say about alan without actually knowing the man personally! I had the pleasure of working for Alan Sugar for 8yrs in the 90's (i actually done a lot of the R&D work on the 6486/8000/9000 series). he is direct and to the point but if you want to make money you have to be like that, but he does trust the people around him, he certainly took notice when i told him getting in with philips and their new vcd (it was new at the time) would be a big mistake.

alan is entitled to retire at some point and what better way to bring in a lot of extra cash than to sell off some of his business... remember amstrad is only a small part of alans empire

Andy

Royal bank is HBOS too, or am I going mad?

Your going mad, RBS is nothing to do with HBOS

Andy

just....

get over it will you its only a game!!! ..................

bye bye pipex

ive been with pipex for years but im not going to tiscali so ive just asked for my mac code and ill be off to bt in a week or so .. shame ive always told people to go pipex as their support (although ive never needed it) is very good and they always seem to answer their phones quickly

Andy

cant believe

Its bad enough people complain about TV programs instead of switching over or turning off but complain about a advert in the cinema.. GET A LIFE people!!!! i want the ones who complained to be named and shamed .. lol

on a side note, my mac doesnt crash , unlike my pc's, now we run on intel maybe its time apple allowed mac os to be run on a pc

Andy

wine wine wine....

i used to work for amstrad many moons ago and people complained when we went over to 0898 numbers but man did people get the idea. instead of 3hr calls helping people reinstall dos and windows from scratch because of their stupidty of deleting files they should, people started dipping in and out of the calls instead..

if you can now get straight through with your proper technical problem relating to the service and not asking general PC related questions then you should be thanking them. and if you still dont like it well go to another provider that costs more but gives a better service (hint: things are cheap for a reason normally!!!)

Andy

fao chris kimpton

just download the new version and intall it, should work with your existing key

if the pc version is anywhere near as good as the mac version then vmware should be very very scared!!! vmware fusion i know is still beta but parallels has come from pretty much nowhere and taking the mac world by storm.

god bless parallels give vmware a run for its money on the pc dont let them rest on their laurels
