Tories put toes on Linux bandwagon

Why not?

<quote>Is this true? Would the disastrous National Programme for IT...work better with 12 separate project managers and specs?</quote>

I seem to be able to make our own in-house application share data with 3rd party applications developed independently through published APIs and the odd conference call. IT.Gov is bigger, but otherwise, where's the difference?

And as for any lame "our software can't even do an export to CSV for a civil servant flunky to upload into yours" - then surely a definite criteria for selection must be the availability of an API that a techie can read and believe - not sweet smelling bull#### around a boardroom table.

Certainly the idea of mulitple vendors competing for projects rather than an incumbent racking up the expenses bill must deliver some benefit.

Entire class fails IT exam by submitting in Word format

Gates Horns

Why exactly did they fail?

Was it because, Edexcel were still using some legacy system that a team of consultants still hasn't been able to migrate to a 21st century platform? Or was it that, for an IT course, worshipping at the altar of Redmond is an automatic slap across the face?

Tech gadgetry brings about pet-o-geddon

Matt V
Linux

what can we infer about pet preference v gadgets?

"iPod was responsible for most injuries in reptiles and cats". Can only possibly read this to mean that dog owners are more careful and/or aren't fanbois. Although I note there are no injuries to penguins recorded...

watch the 2010 World Cup in HD

Oh whoop-di-doo. And ITV1 in HD. It gets better!

But anyway, I've never forked out on an "HD ready" TV, just pick and choose the set-top-box/freeview PVR. And I live in the bit of Granada that is neither Manc-land, or Scouse-ville.

And it's Friday afternoon. All I need now is a new BOFH and my week is complete :)

Morgan shows 'light & slippery' fuel-cell car concept

Go

So pleased to see this article...

... because there's probably a higher correlation of Linux Loving, Mog Motoring, Reg Readers than one might first imagine. Me included.

The Go sign, because, as he says, "everyone should have more than one car anyway, for different kinds of driving." :)

Unhappy

they've closed the topic :(

Guess either some mac-toting beeb media type didn't like their sensible topic being hijacked, or the hand of NuLab up the ventriloquist dummy that is Auntie Beeb has pulled it...

UK government websites out of control

Matt V

1 to 10 of about 1,310,000

Well, haven't got the time to check for duplicates - but there are some great ones in here. But, there's something for everyone:

www.stabilisationunit.gov.uk

www.4ps.gov.uk

www.therentservice.gov.uk

And of course, they must have all visited www.govtalk.gov.uk first: "Information on policies and standards for e-government"...
