The universe is going to be a lot less interesting without him....

the shark is missing the laser
"Partnerships with companies such as Xiaomi/Microsoft are central to the Chinese Government's strategy to work with industry leaders around the world to meet the needs of total information disclosure on all its citizens"

They dimmed from full beam to normal headlights, just like you're supposed to. It's not a comment, it's a SPACE SHIP!
Really cool to see a tech rag have its own space program.... Not long before we're looking at an orbit attempt (pleeeeeeeeeeeease)
I suppose that stands for Real Close
Best of luck Lester..
This is why I love this site and why El Reg is simply the best... Have a pint and a great weekend
I'd suggest that you have a double patch option, just for the sheer simplicity of fulfilment once it comes to shipping ....
Two pledges = two transactions (and two times the fees), double the grief with trying to figure out how many of what to who etc....
always fancied a nice Reg mug...
I kinda describe it as -> looking at a train crash happening in very slow motion ........
To be honest, I hope another nation gets there first, because I think thats the ONLY thing that will kick the US space program back into gear... sputnik and all that...
...his answer to the second last Q ...
"That said, I think people should have some way of getting exposure to it, just so that people who find that they enjoy it and have the aptitude know about the possibility. Not because everybody will want to or need to learn, but just because it is a great vocation, and there may well be lots of people who never realized that they might actually like telling computers what to do. So in that sense I think computer courses in schools are a great idea, even if I do not believe in the "everybody should learn to code" thing."
Don't know what everyone is getting worked up over...
Linus, he's still on my christmas card list...
this IS a real space program
that's him off my christmas card list
Wow that was a great article… More please !!
Got one a while back and can't fault it in any way - even allows HD video. Great camera - small, light, tons of features, even allows you to go manual with settings.

For a hug ....
the gangs running those social networking sites are turning into a bigger bunch of wankers than the bankers are....
now I basically leave the email in the inbox, if I can/need to deal with it, I do, otherwise it's left there.
If it's urgent they'll call back after being ignored for a few days.
At the end of the month, every email older that 60 days is deleted.
I've better things to be doing than sorting through and managing email ....
I had one of them... wow am I really that old?
and wipes for the monitor.
That is a contender for the best headline of 2012
"Finding brown dwarfs near our sun is like discovering there's a....."
For very extremely large values of "Near"...
.... and I wasn't too hungover.
this is going to be so cool.....
use a long length of 2 inch pipe, bolted/secured to the gable end of the house to hold the receiver. I've see 12 foot long sections of pipe like this used to mount tv aerials - so it would easily support the gear you have.
It also gives you the capability to increase the height securely.
I've been following this from day 1 and have to say that the entire project, from start to finish, defines what the register is all about - good honest to goodness tongue in cheek tech reporting with the right amount of irreverence backed by genuine "hacker" mentality and the pursuit of fun.
Well done to all who worked on this and those who backed the project (including the pointy haired back room crew).
This is what is missing from life these days - the spirit of doing something for the fun of it.
I really really do hope that this is just the start, and not the end of this adventure, you guys have the makings of a real annual event here and the possibility to take it international (what with the possibility of a competition with the aussies and god knows who else).
Thank you for a great adventure, it was one of those very rare events that captured the kid in all of us.
I can't wait for the next one.
she's going down .........
