When I was young I used to be a filer.. ........
now I basically leave the email in the inbox, if I can/need to deal with it, I do, otherwise it's left there.
If it's urgent they'll call back after being ignored for a few days.
At the end of the month, every email older that 60 days is deleted.
I've better things to be doing than sorting through and managing email ....

use a long length of 2 inch pipe, bolted/secured to the gable end of the house to hold the receiver. I've see 12 foot long sections of pipe like this used to mount tv aerials - so it would easily support the gear you have.
It also gives you the capability to increase the height securely.

Simply brilliant.
I've been following this from day 1 and have to say that the entire project, from start to finish, defines what the register is all about - good honest to goodness tongue in cheek tech reporting with the right amount of irreverence backed by genuine "hacker" mentality and the pursuit of fun.
Well done to all who worked on this and those who backed the project (including the pointy haired back room crew).
This is what is missing from life these days - the spirit of doing something for the fun of it.
I really really do hope that this is just the start, and not the end of this adventure, you guys have the makings of a real annual event here and the possibility to take it international (what with the possibility of a competition with the aussies and god knows who else).
Thank you for a great adventure, it was one of those very rare events that captured the kid in all of us.
I can't wait for the next one.

Good, the bar just got raised ....
Irrespective of the reasons to use/not use or love/hate the idea of this announcement, it can only be a good thing, for the simple reason that it now "FOCUSES" the minds of all existing OS providers.
This is exactly what Apple did to handset manufacturers and mobile phone operators when they released the iPhone.
Until the iPhone arrived, the quality, usability and functionality of handsets were determined by an agenda set by Operators, not customers. Post iPhone release there have been many major improvements right across the board and most important of all - putting the needs of Joe/Jane public back higher up on the list of priorities.
If Google actually deliver an OS experience to a similar level of what Apple did with the iPhone, then everyone will benefit. Microsoft, Apple and the various *NIX vendors will need to step up to the mark and justify why their version is better.
I'm looking forward to seeing how this plays out. Everyone is a winner if Google succeed with this.

I have a Lacie drive (Firewire) sitting on my desk right now, cover off, as it went titsup last Monday. This is the second drive that's given up the ghost that I've had from Lacie. Total rubbish.
