Apples and oranges - the Nook range are comparable (and in the case of the Tablet) far superior to the Kindle equivalents. There's also a thriving rooting community for them built in - my Nook Color was a full on Android Tablet about a year before the Fire even existed. The Color and Tablet reading app is also about the best ereader I've used (and I tried more or less all of them before settling on the Nook one).
There's also the fact that while travelling back home in Blighty a lot over the last year or so I've had a lot of people ask me about it and express a lot of interest once they had a play. I'm just wondering if this isn't all a year or two too late..
Re: HP Sauce
Oddly enough I've not had a problem finding bacon - depending on where you are there are often British shops around who have an arrangement with a local butcher to take pigs apart the proper British way, and some will ship in dry ice too.. I have this place: http://www.bestofbritishonline.com/products.asp?cat=49 more or less on my doorstep, and used to have this one: http://www.ukgourmet.us when I lived on the NY/CT border. Another alternative we had in NY was a couple of Irish Butchers in Queens that did decent middle and back bacon.
No, the main problem I have (at least on the east coast) is finding a decent sausage. Bloody Italian, German and "Breakfast" sausages are the scourge of the US. And the number of times I've found somewhere claiming to sell decent "bangers" only to find they're basically very pale Bratwursts make me cry..
Buying a house this month - first thing I'm buying for the kitchen is a sausage maker!
Re: Active shutter specs? Bye then.
Polarisation. You have two left lenses in one set of glasses, and two right in the other. I know it works, because I own it..
Not new
The LG passive 3D TVs already do this.. You just have to take 2 pairs of glasses apart and switch a lens from each.

I was just figuring that Jobs forgot about the announcement til the night before and thought "F*** it, what have we got lying around I can show them??? I know, there's that huge f*cking prototype 'iPod Touch For The Short Sighted' that Bob knocked up when he was drunk that time that when we all laughed at him for it."
So maybe this is the 'iPod Touch for the Near Sighted with Bonus Voice Features'?
Same as everyone else
Thought they were buying EVOs, and was wondering why they didn't pick up some WRXs or STIs instead.. Need more caffeine!
It wasn't ever banned in Aberystwyth, that would be what's known as an Urban Legend

Naughty El Reg - took me about 15 seconds in Google to find this out..
Sidewinder Strategic Commander thingy
Does this mean the MS Sidewinder Strategic Commander will finally work again, after they broke it for Vista and 64 bit OSes?
Meatsack / Meatbag
..Someone's been playing KOTOR!
Hmm..
“by the time you purchase photo, audio and video software for a PC, you probably will have spent more than you would if buying a comparable Apple computer”
Apparently they've never heard of Sourceforge..
re: funny phone calls
Note the time of one of the calls, to the second, then report it to your 'phone provider as a nuisance call, mentioning that it keeps happening, it's unsolicited and perturbing you. It'll generally be dealt with fairly swiftly..
Re: Mini Xbox 360 here!
No, it's really not. Without even cutting and pasting your link I know what that is.. That's a perspective thing, is all, and the guy whose desk that is posted follow up photos on the same blog that originally came from to prove it. It's a normal RROD 360 sitting next to its normal 360 replacement.
I bet you believe everything you see on the intertubes..
RE: El Reg lost its memory?
In before Ms Bee, since I seem to recall she has a bee in her bonnet about this:

Re: Still cradling the OSS fanatics
Dear God! It's like you've never used a (vaguely) secured Windows box before.
The CTRL+ALT+DEL button is there so that you can log on to windows at boot without needing the keyboard. I'm sitting typing this on an Acer tablet with the same thing.
