I think he was well aware he had no rights to the work and that’s why he was contacting you. Seems like you could have just said “no”. What was the biggest problem, the fact he wanted to pass it off as someone else’s or the fact there was no money offered?

I'm a cynic at the best of times, but most wealthy people make charitable donations. At the very least they are a tax write off, so they do get a monetary benefit, as well as a warm glow inside.
