poke
Well clearly this will fail on Android. No self-respecting user will get anything on their phone that was made popular by iOS. People might think they like Apple or something, and we just can't have that. No instead, someone will replicate the functionality and just give it a different name - PromptPostCard or something equally clever....oh and naturally it'll be better than the iOS version. Naturally. Now that's the Android way!
I don't really care about all this. My work is in the very slow process of compatibility checking all our bajillion in house apps against Win7 with a view to upgrade our bajillion PCs from XP. By the time they're brave enough to do it again it'll be another 10 years and there will be a completely different paradigm, with completely different issues.
Sometimes it's nice to live in the slow lane......good luck all!
Re: Flagship phone 12 months ago maybe
I know, it's embarrassing isn't it. We all know the number of cores you have is THE most important thing a phone can have. For instance I don't get out of bed in the morning unless there is a penta-core phone on my bedside table. It's just not worth my valuable time.
Oh and don't get me started on Sony. I mean they did bad stuff with rooting or something and something that offended linux people. I mean, how bad can a company get?
And lastly, that thing looks suspiciously shiny. We all know that's bad too. Something to do with Apple or something.
All in all, just outrageous.
You are clearly deluded if you think you'll get any empirical evidence for anything in audiophile land. That's unless someone has come up with an empirical model of the brain.
Just understand that some things sounds 'better" than others and some people are willing to pay more than others for what they 'think' sounds better. What is wrong with that?
Who is sadder, those people who accept that and enjoy their lives, or those trying to suck that enjoyment out with cold calculations.
Yet another reason for me not to sign up to gmail. More social network integration I don't need/want.
Heck I actually LIKE WinPho7, but as I have no interest in Facebook et al, given all the integration it would be somewhat pointless.
etc, etc
Eventually it will be impossible to avoid such integration, but until then, FUCK OFF!
If I had to go over to the dark side, this would be my weapon of choice. Nice.
Capacity isn't the bottleneck in NZ it's price. More links are being added by different companies not to add needed capacity but to bring competition and lower prices. It'll be a long time before these sorts of speeds are needed down there.
Look really hard? Eh? I'm sitting here with my iPad on my lap and I can see the dots with ease. Yes I do have torso and no I'm not one of the little people......
What?
Little functional use for the hi res? Eh? After looking at the dottlessness of an iPhone 4 screen (and similar) the cruddy res of my ipad2 is glaring. Take Octane magazine on NewsStand. It's basically a PDF, but showing a full single page in portrait the text is barely legible due to the bad res - it can't handle all the serif fonts used. I have to pinch and zoom all over the show. Higher res would fix that. Can't wait.
Google, it's a thing
In less characters that you used to ask your question you could have found loads of articles the subject: "Thunderbolt vs usb 3" etc. Just saying.
VGA
Check out the awkward treatment of the VGA port. Time for these to die. Yeah yeah I know, road warriors doing presentations all day need them. But I'm sure they've got room for a VGA dongle amongst all the other crap they invariably take with them.
Tubes are good
I'm now a tube convert. Sticking some on the end of a digital chain covers up all sorts of nasties (lossy encoding, bad bit rates etc). Yes yes, tubes introduce their own distortions but they are NICE distortions.
Is it just me
Or do things look really laggy/jerky in the demos. Rather than being a great eReader (which just need to show a page turning) it now just looks like a really crappy Android tablet. Bad move.
My wife's friend used to be high up in HR at HP and agreed to have a proof read of my CV after dusting it off for the first time in 10 years. Boy what an eye opener. Now I have a CV that will get past the HR filters and still be techy enough to be relevant to the actual interviewers.
Cost me a bloody expensive dinner to get the advice but it was worth it. Now happily employed (not at HP!)
Don't forget to use your social networks! (or prerrably your wife's if you will have nothing to do with fb or li like me)
I had the previous non airplay version of this. It was the only av amp small enough to fit in the gap I had in my cabinet and still be able to breath. Great stuff. I'd get this if I was in the market for that type of thing again. Small is good. No need for megawatts of power in today's close living conditions - that's just big willy stuff. Just get sensitive speakers instead. Old school.
Well
I'm 'locked in' to my cable provider and the HD-DVR they provide. It is a steaming pile of shit basically. If something could break that lock-in I'd be very very happy. But surely there is no need for all that to be built into a physical TV? An addon box like the AppleTV, Roku et al would be fine surely?
What?
You mean the one where they break into your datacentre and nick off with your gear? Yeah, well, I think you're kinda toasted then anyway. Oh, waaaaait I get it. The power outage was caused by the thieves, so it was all to plan. Brilliant! But still stupid.
Shiny shiny
Um, so will buyers of this be subjected to derisive 'oh, shiny shiny' comments? Is this breaking the rules that non apple devices have to be 'oh, matte matte'? I'm sure hardcore freetards\fandroids will be disgusted by this phone because of it.
Hmm, I knew they built the modern world AND I like shiny things. What does that make me? Well clearly not a grumpy old bugger for one.
> why can't the linux community.
Community - there is you answer. Very similar to a committee. We all know anything designed by a committee is flawed (to put it nicely) or shit (to put it truthfully).
Sometimes just sometimes dictators do have their use. Heck didn't Greenpeace even admit that under democracy they'd never get through all the green measures needed to save the earth? Sometimes you just need a dictator. And Apple have/had one of those.
Teachers
So where are they going to get the teachers for all this. Next we'll be complaining that the 'those that can't, teach' syndrome will be mean they're just learning crap.
So any volunteers to the job properly then? .......
Wishful thinking. In fact i'll put money on it that there are people 'stupid' enough to buy millions of these - probably 22 million in fact in the next quarter.
Get your head out of the technical press and go walk around the streets and you'll see loads of 'stupid' people. Certainly on my packed commute it's an extreme novelty to see someone without and iPhone 4. I don't see then moaning to their comrades about the antenna or tracking......
Colon
Man, what a shitty name. Poor guy.
Thank God
Someone mentioned Android. I was getting worried there.
Oh great
Another opportunity for some munter to take hours at the ATM when those in the queue behind just want to get some fucking money out! If you want a full service go to the fucking bank!
Grrr
Let me guess...the response you're looking for is......
(snigger) But iThingy's don't have SD card readers (snort).
Well done, I took the bait.
Dumb and proud
I'm technically literate. It's what I do during my (long) working day - technically literate stuff.
But when I get home I'm fucking sick of being technically literate. And thus I'm an Apple user. Dumb and proud. And OMG I just luv my iPad (gush). So much in fact that I now barely use my Mac 'computer'. I am now able to be so technically illiterate at home it's breathtakingly refreshing.
To those who can maintain a technically literate lifestyle at work AND home, I salute you, but do not envy you in any way. You are welcome to making your life difficult just for fun.
Very nice
But I'd still get one of these instead: http://www.oppodigital.com/blu-ray-bdp-95/
(Although the Arcam is a better looker)
WTF do you care?
Why is it that people care that people don't care that they can't fiddle with their 'paid for' devices. Neither party is right, but both parties need to respect that. Otherwise you're basically spouting religion, and we all know what brain canker that is.
Why don't you go have a wash, eat some vegetables and go sit in the sun for a bit. You'll feel much better about things.
WTF was that drivel
Wireless my arse.
That's unless they can invent one that can penetrate everything on this god given earth without affecting the signal, and at the same time not sear the skin off our bodies.
Until then, I'll have my nice lovely wired connection please and thank you very much.
Another Lemon 4 rant?
Seriously, give it up. It's getting embarrassing (for you).
Ummm
Steve doesn't like Flash as it is/was a CPU hog. So saying the 'new' CPU still can't handle it would seem to prove him right.
So I'm unsure if you're supporting Steve's stance, or have just failed very very badly at trying to have a dig.
Are you still on about the "Lemon 4"?
How sad. Very sad.
All clouds are balls....
...unless someone else pays the mobile and or fixed broadband bills - and no, an advertising subsidised option is NOT an option - so stick that Google (which will no doubt roll it out any second now) in your creepy hole.
Now go away and start again.
Huh?
Why? So they can drown in the sea of mediocrity that is Android? At least they're taking a chance (which might backfire) rather than giving in and driving the minivan of the smartOS work.
Haha
Firefox blew chunks before finishing and was realllly slow. Safari finished and was fast. The ol' standard if-it-won't-work-in-firefox-it'll-work-in-safari adage holds true.
So why am I using (a Safari skinned) Firefox rather than Safari? I swap between them once one pisses me off sufficiently enough to make the switch (bookmarks and all that nonsense). Firefox is almost at that point.....
Nah...
He's there at Google so they can hack (via social engineering) into people Webcams and track their eye movements (when users use Google search). Then they can offer pay-per-view as well as pay-per-click on advertisements.
California Highway Patrol?
What, was the guy doing all this whilst driving or something?
Damn right...
...they should get off. The casino(s) should sue the machine maker to recover the moneys, plus some more for being so damn stupid.
Awe.....
sniff. Very sad. Poor little open sauce afraid of getting caught out using someone else's recipe?
Courier
I'm an Apply kinda a guy (but one that doesn't get first gen stuff - I'm waiting for iPad 2 and iPhone 5 before jumping in that area). But heck, the Courier looked freakin awesome. If it had come out actually working like the demo I would have bought one in a snap - even a first gen version.
Silly silly boys. Would have been a game changer. (Still) makes everything to date (incl Apple) look terribly stale.
Taxi's?
What about the funkin stinkin buses?
Don't fret
The lobbyists of certain "special interest" groups* will shoot this one down in short order. All because said special interest groups purpose in life is about making life happier, easier etc of the users, and why would you mess with that right?
* aka Google
