One more point for the smelting pot

Don't forget we pay our license fee to the BBC, but that license is also need to view all of the other channels on a visual display device that recieves a broadcast signal.

Ergo, you wanna watch sky but choose never to watch the BBC you still need a license, you want to watch five or ITV on your PC you still need a license.

I think the impact will be far beyond just the BBC and this must in someway breach their 'inclusive' mandate of which they have to adhere to because they recieve public money.

Windows 7 users to fly without SP parachute

Are you sure

I thought Rover collaborated with Honda to develop an engine which ended up being the 'K' Series and in exchange for Honda's help Rover gave them some chassis design expertise. Shortly after that a lot of the asian car manufacturers followed suit and hence why you see similiar designs to european and american cars coming from asia, back then they weren't very good at chassis design but there engines were pretty solid.

The 'K' Series wasn't an excellent performer but it was fairly 'bullet-proof'.

T-Mobile UK earmarks two tariffs for scrappage

Rob

Missed out

Should have checked some WinMo forums, I got my TP2 on an upgrade with T-Mobile. The trick was to ask for your discount to be applied to your account so that you could go to another company to buy the phone who would apply the discount.

My discount was £250 and would have stayed on my account for 10 days as an "offer", phoned up a mobile phone shop in southampton who applied the discount and sent the phone out whilst renewing my Flext at the same time.

Annoying that you have to 'dig' these sort of options out.

Rob
Unhappy

Ditto

I'm gonna miss my Flext, thankfully I've only just renewed my contract so I should have another 16months or so on it.

I get the feeling when I have to choose a new tariff it's not going to be that great for me and I'm gonna feel shortchanged somehow. The definitive deal breaker is if they get rid of their web'n'walk packages.

Paris Hilton

Pick a standard, any standard then insert it pack in the pack

It will take years for them to settle on a standard let's hope it's about 5+ years cause that's the minimum before people can stomach shelling out for a new TV with different technology on.

Wouldbe interesting to see some figures on BD Player adoption cause I have a feeling that is still v.niche.

Let hope the standard they settle on is compatible with the varying eye disfunctions available to the human race, me personally I hope they use a standard which is compatible with my type of colour-bindness.

Paris, cause she doesn't have a clue either.

Microsoft predicts Linux will fail mobile 'quality' test

Rob
Linux

That's the key though...

"...better than 6.1 is the fact I'm running HTC's Sense ui on it!"

This is finally what will make WM7 even slightly attractive to mobile manufacturers, a good example being Samsungs phone that has WM but has a samsung interface, just like HTC have developed Sense UI (which makes the phone so much more usable). Earlier editions of WM just didn't support this type customisation to the extent it's been done now.]

Which if that is the case is slightly ironic as that is what the suit has just berated Linux for.

Google to mobile industry: ‘F*ck you very much!’

Rob

Well said

Prehaps it's not Google we should be worrying about but HTC instead. Nexus One is made by HTC so will be using standard components as they do in most of their phones, so at some point you will see a bedroom hacker annouce that WinMo can be installed on this phone just as some poeple have already got Android installed on some HTC WinMo phones.

All you need now for complete dominance is for HTC to build an iPhone and you've got the potential for 3 different OS's to be installed on a phone.

On a slightly seperate note, I too have no sympathy for the networks, but the overall jist of this article for me was that Google are increasingly becoming more of a distrustful company and unfortunately they have most of the keys already to our data kingdoms.

Will a service pack for Windows 7 rock up anytime soon?

Rob
Thumb Up

Nope not the only one

The only reason I upgraded to 7 was due to the Fmaily Pack offer and that Vista on my laptop wasn't a clean install but an upgrade, so eventually it was starting to get clogged up. Vista on my wife's laptop is still going strong and she only wants to upgrade to 7 cause I've done the other 2 PC's and she's feeling 'left out'.

Blu-ray boys finish 1080p 3D spec

Rob
Happy

Blimey

This is getting a bit complex for me now, reasons for not thinking 3D was that great in the past is apparently my colour-blindness is getting in the way of certain 3D compositions, apparently there are ways around it though I just have to get the right type of tinted lenses before putting on a pair of 3D glasses.

Talking of standards

"polarised lens" I presume your talking about the glasses needed to view the content?

The crucial question being will someone actually develop some 3D specs that aren't made of cardboard and are actual glasses.

I can't see it being that popular, 3D isn't that great and definately seems to be a move away from the true HD quality available.

Wording slightly misleading

"The mishap is the latest reminder that even people in high places can fall for phishing scams."

They are probably the most at risk group IMO. Partly due to the fact that they have their head up their own arse and those that don't are probably so busy with work picking up the slack from those with a missing head and an inflamed posterior that they don't notice the signs of a phishing scam.

Loyal to HTC

I've been on HTC handsets since the days of the Orange SPV phone, granted I felt like I was still a beta tester with that one but over the years the improvements HTC have made and the ideas they've brought to their models has been v.good.

I've not yet been stuck for an upgrade when looking at their catalog. I'm on a TouchPro 2 now and it's the best phone I've had from them so far.

Need to thoroughly investigate

If that senario happened to me then a look at my Anti-virus logfile will tell you what was found when it was found and it's removal date along with the name of what my AV software thinks it is.

(of course the flipside to that coin is that I could also probably inject a few lines of info into that logfile as well).

Missed it

My point was that I never had to pay a tethering charge, unless you include my upgrade for the Web'n'Walk Pro tariff but I only did that for the greater monthly useage cap.

My other point was I never came across any issues until I started using T-Mobile, but once I removed the proxy server settings it was back to normal service.

Rob
WTF?

Eh?

Can't see what all the fuss is about, I've been 'tethering' my phone to my PC for a data connection for years and have never been denied or had to pay more.

T-Mob's Web'n'Walk Package comes in 2 flavours, apparently the top package allwso for tethering (although I never encountered any problems using the lower tariff when I was on it). Before T-Mob I was on O2, worked fine, before that Orange, worked fine.

Blu-ray Players

Rob

Editor's Choice, mine too

I'm a fan of the Samsung BD players, more so for the PC Streaming, mine was crap when I first bought it but since the last firmware upgrade it's been working flawlessly with my Netgear NASDuo. I got a home cinema BD Player so streaming music stright to it as well has been a bonus, granted I only have the 2.1 system but I never really played stuff mixed to 5.1 anyway so I don't feel I'm missing much.

We have a samsung TV so the 'anytime' link up means I can put the TV remote in storage and does make life a little simplier. The Samsung tech guys have more improvements to the firmware planned so hopefully the SMB/PnP bug will be sorted out soon.
