move on Netflix territory
My first thought was - "Adverts, Repeats, More Adverts, More Repeats and new B-rate TV shows.. coming soon, to an IP address near you."
Then my second thought was, no thanks, I'll still with Netflix!

Hit the nail on the head, with the cheaper knock offs.
They have a good brand and reputation, but most consumers would not consider this justification for paying 6-10x more - I paid £60 for a decent generic. works perfect for my few ski trips, but cheap enough that if it breaks I don't care too much.
But I hope they manage to get past this.. also sympathies to those who have lost their jobs.
By this logic, VMWare should suing Citrix, Citrix should be suing Microsoft and Microsoft suing Redhat!
When will employers see that
1) Employee and Employer are in a "relationship", when one doesn't provide, the other will look elsewhere
2) Utilising previous experience is key to progression (As long as they didn't steal the others code, finished product or implement a solution in the exact same fashion)..
3) We should disband all companies, and live in a big hippy commune
In 2005 I was forced to install a proprietary system into in a call center I worked at... in 2010, I took great pleasure in taking a large hammer to the dam thing, after replacing it with an Asterisk based system.
For anybody who's looking, don't do it! Consider this, you think vendor lock-in with-in IT manufacturers is bad.. PABX manufacturers take it too a whole new level:
Want a new user? That will be a licence
Want that user to have a handset? That will be another licence (on top of the cost of a handset)
Want to use a 3rd party handset which is 1/3 the price? That will be another licence which costs 4x
Want that user to have a line or SIP trunk to make calls? That will be another licence
Want that user to be able to access VM? that will be another licence
Want that user to be able to access IM? that will be another licence
Cost per-user was working out to about £750 each...
'When does your user ever see your code?'
Speaks for it self, and it's saying "i'm bollocks".
Call my me a cynic, but anybody who is experienced enough to understand their users, will know they will simple ask "is that Chinese?"..
This shite is clearly aimed at PFY's who are desperate for a mentor and guidance on how to gain experience and progress their skillset.
To be fair - even after their 30% cut, the games are still f*ck load better value and cheaper than those for XBoxOne and PS4..
Brought my son a new game for xmas, it cost £40, the same game on Steam costs £22, but if you hunt around (cdkeys), you can buy the steam code for £12... I contemplated just building him a PC and the game to go with it (pay for itself over the course of a year)..
Browsers come with some blocking features, but that doesn't stop abusive App.
If I purchase device, I own it... I will never buy a phone that doesn't allow me to have full control of the OS and underlying features (Don't mind it takes a few steps, such as Huawei phones need) - no ROOT, no SALE..
Huawei are about to unveil the 7X and V10 (which is apparently based upon the Mate 10 Pro).. tomorrow in China (then in London on 5th December on the EU versions).
No idea what the price will be, but I'd recommend waiting, as on paper they are looking pretty awesome
@sabroni - Your entitled to the BBC, but at the moment others are subsiding your past-times.. consumers of the service (and only them) should pay for this. Though if you're happy to subsidize my past-times (porn and travelling) then I'll happily contribute to the BBC license fee!
I was getting letters on a weekly basis, and some hand-delivered notices.. whilst I refuse to kowtow to their demands, I just got fed up, and actually found an easy way to stop the harassment - I dropped them a 1 line email containing my house number, postcode and a few words stating I don't watch TV. Suddenly the letters and threats stopped..
lmao, this used to be one of my many tricks when we needed new ESXi upgrades... be careful if you do this, consider a carefully placed and unassumingly named script on the server to take care of it.
Though nobody ever clocked on it was 1 VM that had a "problem", rather than the whole ESXi host (which was running about 20 VM's).
Another tip. when the Firewall needs an upgrade, switch on QOS and drop the priority of (or rate limit) HTTP, HTTPS and VOIP.
I do believe western budget airlines are fast turning into "3rd class carriers"... Can't ever imagine Squeezy Jet or Ryan unfAir doing this, all we get these days is less for more... To even call them budget airline is a bit of an insult.
My old ISP / Datacenter on the South Coast did that.. IIRC correctly they once had a failure on the primary backbone provider, failed-over the secondary, a few minutes later this went TITSUPs.
Turned out, the backup link got saturated, as they'd being progressively increasing their customer base and increasing the primary, but "forgot" to upgrade the secondary.
"but this looks a killer quote (if true...?)"
Basically, what he's saying is his brother heard from a friend, who has an acquaintance, who's daughter worked with somebody who read something online..
I'm personally a cloud hater, you can see it in my previous posts. So I have no wish to defend AWS (always preferred my own tin). But I work for one AWS's biggest European customers (does that make me a hypocrite?!! Hmm), but this guy is talking shit, they give surprisingly good discounts if you ask nicely and negotiate properly.
In addition, if you've got an enterprise agreement, you'll get a hell of a load more, including service credit (think money off vouchers, to use where you want).
Whilst I hate admitting this - I do use the phone apps, it's made my life sooo much easier, especially when managing multiple accounts.
At the end of the day, even if somebody managed to get into the account, they can't transfer any money without setting up a new payee, which requires my card and my reader.. in addition, when ever anything is set up or moved, I'm sent a notification.
I let my missus look at my account, so I've got nothing to hide... that stuff goes on a credit card from a separate bank ;)
Surely thats phone banking? Unless you were intentionally staring at her screen. On a similar note, my boss saw a civil servant log into a "classified portal", password was something like 12345 (Same as the president has on his luggage).
** go watch Spaceballs if you don't get it!
I worked for another FTSE company who shall remain nameless (Dixons) who did exactly this. Costs more than a network engineers annual salary to get a simple change made.
Theres a joke here somewhere..
How many Committees, Project Managers, Auditors, Tickets, Indian call center staff, engineers etc does it take to plugin a CAT5E? I don't know, ask our IBM Account Manager.
It's bizarre, but since autoplay became an issue, I've noticed more and more sites doing it.. I honestly don't understand the mindset of a marketeer. They're almost boardering on being sadists, thinking the more shit they inflict on customers, the more theyll be noticed.
That's a step backwards, the ideal of the internet were meant to be information with out borders.
Besides, you'd just get some slimey backroom deal, with most of the EU, US, Japan and AU sharing their roots.
I'm sure there's a good backdoor rooting joke in here somewhere.
In my humble opinion, the costs have nothing to do with actual parts, overheads and margins - Its more about selling more handsets. Lets face it, you see that price, your more likely to just purchase a shiny new one, which at the end of the days adds even more to Apple's bottom line.
This is the evil twin brother of 2 for 1... Buy 2 screens, or buy a new phone!
Personally, Apple calls its self a "responsible" company, I'm not an environmentalist by a long shot (Global Warming, WTF is that?!).. But even I think Apple is f*cking evil on this front!
@heyrick..
"battery poops out after 7-8"
That's the reason I forked out for the expensive one, get 25 minutes and 3 batteries..
"I know I'll end up crashing."
And that's the reason I shouldn't have forked out for the expensive one, I've crashed it twice and broken it! then had to spent $$$ to get it fixed. Its like buying a Porsche and having a fender bender, you look a idiot if you don't get it fix.. but you feel like an when you do, the only way to win is not to buy it in the first place (hindsight is a wonderful thing)
"Less dangerous that a Motocycle"
Unless the person flying it is also a "Plane spotter" and decided he want to film him favourite liner close up as it lands!
On another note I'm finally a minority... I'm under 45 and spent way more than £300 on mine..
But not sure which minority - overpaid geek? mug with too cash? or an idiot for buying a toy he's only used about 5 times (Though I should mention this was due to the crap weather)?
"I will stay with a supplier and not consider anyone"
If only you suppliers knew the power of the dark BoFH side.
I've got 1 small supplier I started using when I worked at an SME, they were honest and understood how to work with an IT manager, when budgets were tight they worked miracles with the vendors for me.. since then I've moved up, now working in FTSE companies, and taken this supplier with me, and rather £5000-£15000 orders, they now get £500k.
I still remember 1 new underhanded supplier, who I was discussing Microsoft licensing with, I won't name them (they are named after something toddlers/kids Colour with), they were about £50 cheaper than my usual supplier and something stank about them, so I decided to stick with the devil I knew - next thing I know, the underhanded supplier was on the phone to call my head of finance!
