123-Reg customers outraged at automatic .UK domain registration

123-reg are pure evil

Used them on and off over the years - you're always getting these surprise sort of bills.

Red panic: Best Buy yanks Kaspersky antivirus from shelves

Bob Hoskins

Re: It's a good job this Kasperksy guy seems a good egg.

Kaspersky are a pretty late player which makes it all the more impressive they broke into the AV market so effectively.

As AV goes, Kaspersky is pretty good but I've no idea what their relation with the Kremlin (if any) is.

Jodie Who-ttaker? The Doctor is in

Bob Hoskins

Re: Ground rules

"Give the new Doctor some decent scripts and storylines."

That's all that really matters. It's been bloody woeful of late. Terrance Dicks is alive and kicking, we should be paying him big bucks to come back and make everything OK.

Re: This is the BBC making a quota

Again. Absolutely. It just doesn't seem necessary. I'm not sure - I'm a bit torn like the first time the Daleks could climb stairs. It really isn't some sexist woman hating thing, sure it's just fantasy - one day I'm hoping that the Dr will transform and he'll be Jackie Chan and he'll be kicking the be-jesus out of those cybermen and they'll be like "Crap! It's Dr. Jackie Who!". I'd pay my licence fee for that.

Bob Hoskins

Re: This is the BBC making a quota

LOL. You make a fair point. I'm not afraid of the idea of a female Dr. Who - I just feel....I don't know, no one would insist on Ron Weasly as Anne of Green Gables (I hope).

I'll be watching, but it's all been a bit pants since Mr. Tennant anyway.

Bob Hoskins

This is the BBC making a quota

I've nothing against Jodie - a fine actress but Dr. Who is a guy. What next? Recasting Jane Austin's characters as transgender? If you want a time lady then being back Romana (who incidentally was briefly black - no issues there, in fact Idris Alba for James Bond) - this though feels forced. *

* I love women, am not scared of them etc etc.

Re: I think I've found the problem

I've said it before elsewhere but it got rejected. The trick is not to fly BA. Certainly not transatlantic. Rude cabin crew, no space. Horrible.

Re: !

Agreed. It's not worth the hassle visiting the US at all anymore. ESTA is wildly seen as a convenient source of income more than anything else anyway.

Linus Torvalds slams 'pure garbage' from 'clowns' at Grsecurity

Bob Hoskins

Re: Linus exhibits all the qualities of pure sociopath

Well yeah, OK. But having worked on FreeBSD (and yes I know we're not comparing like with like) there are open source projects with far greater potential and merit. Linus is not the begin and end of the open source movement. He is often rude, unprofessional and rapidly becoming surplus to requirements.

Bob Hoskins
Unhappy

Linus exhibits all the qualities of pure sociopath

It baffles me that anyone in the open source community is still prepared to subject themselves to his attitude.

UK and Ecuador working on Assange escape mechanism

Bob Hoskins

Honestly

I don't think I want to see the guy swan off to Ecuador after all the crap he's pulled. Don't get me wrong, I think the world needs organisations like Wikileaks it just doesn't need Assange. I also think that Ecuador overestimate their own influence and misunderstand how our legal system works. The moment he steps out of the embassy he will be arrested - what happens next is a huge mess of what Sweden decide to do (they can still request extradition), what the yanks want to do (as someone said earlier it will just take one ambitious DA to throw a spanner in the works. Questions as to how long he would survive in Quito I will leave to others to speculate on. One final point is that he has not behaved like an innocent man and that means trial by media and on that I'd say the verdict is pretty much guilty.

Bob Hoskins

Re: Things fade

Bob Hoskins

Things fade

Apple were never going to be the 'cool kids' forever. The bottom has fallen out of the mobile market like it did in 2001 - something new has to come along and change the market. There's a lot of solutions looking for problems - sooner or later someone will hit the right zeitgeist.
