No end in sight for Vista's Long Goodbye

Sam Spade

Not rare, just uncooked.

Vista won't even properly copy/move files from one system to another if there are any permissions differences between them.. I have a NAS and it will start to copy, but abort it at various levels.. Its a shame I have to flip over to a FTP over SSH to get it working reliably.

This is a big problem when you are moving/copying several gigs of data.

Half a million kids' DNA on UK police database

Sam Spade

This is bad but not for the reasons everyone is listing..

I think its terrible but not for the police state (its already there) and not for the potential of innocient people being called in (again, already being done).

But for the reason that as more innocient people get called, it is likely (and has happened) that some news hound or gabby police person fingers a person that is in fact innocient.. The public is far to anxious to hang someone that is SUSPECTED (not convicted) of a crime, there by making their life difficult or impossible. (think about how people want to ban "child sex offenders" and people SUSPECTED of being child molesters from even living in their towns, and having jobs.. there by making it even more likely that they will in fact commit some crime.

I think people fail to consider the mob mentality of the public and how damaging it can be.

BOFH: Fishbowl this

Sam Spade

continuation of the excuse

Well, the damp floor means there is inadequate ventilation, so the ambient humidity of the room will increase significantly if there are any leaks, thus putting all of the units and not just the one closest to the leak at risk.

So really its no good, plus, the lack of sunshine will make us seem more like the hunchback rather than the suave creatures that we are.

Technobullies on the rise in school yard stripping games

Sam Spade

Oh give me a break

So let me understand this.

Someone takes off their clothes on a web-cam under "duress" (which I have serious doubts about) and they are calling it cyberbullying?. (the latest buzzword in a long line of "we must protect the children" blurbs that have little to do with protecting the children and more for seeking an agenda.

I'm sorry, but that is the most ridiculous thing I have ever heard of.

And as for the examples of our well known celeb "sex tapes" that have been "released". I'm sorry, but if you appear on a such a tape, you (both man and woman) run the risk exposure. (How many "tell all" books by various groupies and other such women who actually say "hey I had sex with these people" without regard of their current lives etc.. (ex: http://www.thelondonpaper.com/cs/Satellite/london/news/article/1157146855378?packedargs=aid%3D1157146855378%26suffix%3DArticleController ) Not to mention that personally I think more of them are leaked to keep their names in the press for publicity sake and shock value. (as the old adage goes, even bad press is still press (or words to that effect)

So lets just call it what it is.. indiscriminate behaviour without regard of thought or feeling. (something that both genders do with equal measure and for various reasons). but its not "cyberbullying".
