Ive had an action pack Win7 pro running for about 3 weeks now, and its erm, good!

Apart from......

older programs (namely my music prod software) not working :-(

and it freezes up every so often, when strangly I click and drag a box to highlight more than about 10 items..bam,, and randomly freezes every now and then with IE8 open for more than about an hour, not had the time to trial and error this,

BUT apart from that I really like it, especially as it was free! :-D

yeah but.....

for those of us in the UK, this effects us how? We will still get ripped off.....

I work part time in a pub to help out a friend, and one thing I have noticed is that when a customer wants to pay by card scary things happen.

For example,

If the chip is damaged/un-readable by our machine then it just says to use the mag stripe.

I did an experiment with my own bank card by taking a hammer and a sharp knife to damage the chip reading surface (the simcard like bit) and was told by the card machine after 3 attempts to use the mag stripe.

Now imagine this....

Mr Bloggs has his card details stolen, and a duplicate is made from the info on the mag stripe. To simply get around the chip and pin bit, all he has to do is use a damaged chip and then all he has to do is wait for the check out person to use the mag stripe so he can then forge the signiature.....

Am I being a bit naive or not?

My experiment worked, and I know cards can be cloned.....

Anyone else have any thoughts?

I use vista, and I use it for producing music. I havnt found anything that wont work with vista yet...

And trust me when I say, setting up a pc as studio/mixing hardware, its very important everything works.

The only thing that wont work 100% is sony's sound forge, and thats only until I install .net.. you going to install .net on wine then I take it???

Well I guess there might be some kind of software to use with the set-top boxes, where you have to download the movie over your crappy 8ish mbps lines and THEN stream by good old wifi to the box. I downloaded 1 gig in 45 mins the other day, and thats flat out @ 600Kbps (notice the capital K)

so the only option is for them to either allow people to stream low quality standard def video (like bbci player quality) or allow the download of the entire film before playing it on your telly via the box..

Its not that bad really.

3gb can be done in under 3 hours, but for a quick fix and an unplanned friend gathering, i would still opt for blockbuster..

I too can hear the device.

There is one installed at a bowling alley just down the road from me, I hear it every day on the way to work, as I have to walk down that street.

Whats even more annoying, is that (dont flame please), I smoke, and when ever I go bowling, I obviously have to go outside for a smoke, but the only place there is an ashtray outside, is right next to the sound emmiter!

Im only 23, and the sound really gets to me. To be honest, with the last 6 years of me being a DJ, and playing loud music on headphones, im very supprised I can still hear this moquito.

My 20 year old sis, has had a baby, and she wont go near the bowling alley, because shes affraid of either the noise hurting the baby, or even, waking him up if hes asleep on the way in.

Anyway, Rant over, but I still think these devices need to be abolished.

I dont understand, why is that unit in the picture above is so BIG!

If it was up to me, it would be in a super slim case, with a slot loading dvd drive, ULV processor and 2gig of SO-DIMM ~(Spelling) Ram.

If you can fit a CPU/gfx card/ram/HDD/dvd drive in a laptop, then im sure you can fit the aove into a much smaller case with an SSD drive + slot loading DVD drive??

If there is going to be a 100mbit fibre running almost to the front of my house (Well, i live on a 3rd floor flat) how will they then connect me from my flat to the fibre?

It seems to me, that people living in private buildings may not be able to get the permission for yet another cable to be drilled into a wall on my landlords building.

Weve just had one for Sky done, and that took some persuading.
