Microsoft's earnings down on slow Windows sales, Surface RT bust

Has Redmond lost touch with consumers? : What touch with consumers?

As has been ppinted out, all you need to know is in the numbers. Microsoft has succeeded by ruthlessly exploiting it's Windows/OS monopoly. Where they can still do this, in the corporate drone market, they are doing well. In the consumer market where there's a huge swathe of Android products and iOS they are floundering.

Microsoft is renowned for take 3 goes to finally come up with something competitive. Because of their market muscle with Windows they had the time to do that. Nowadays they don't have that luxury.

It's official: Nokia bets on Microsoft for smartphones

Thumb Down

Two turkeys do not an eagle make...

I think this is about the only thing Nokia could do, but it's a defensive play. Microsoft avoid Win Mob 7 disappearing without trace and Nokia get a new OS, help building the ecosystem that they need, search, etc. But I think it's too little too late. As other contributors say... for individuals (rather than large corporations) buying smartphones, Nokia and Win Mob 7 aren't even in the pick list. It will also scupper a lot of other markets for Microsoft... I'm sure Samsung are busy killing any new Windows phone projects at this very minute.

Don't shed any tears for Pandora

Disagree

Gotta disagree. Pandora is a damn fine service. In terms of revenues for artists I've been turned onto a number of bands by Pandora that I'd never heard of before and subsequently bought their material on cd or itunes.

It's a shame.
