DHS deploys undercar Kraken tentacle-bombs

@David S

I initially read it as "DFS deploys...." and thought it made a nice change from 1/2-price Sofas

Mazda takes RX-8 for a spin on 'hydrogen highway'

light bulb

I wouldn't normally take El Reg up on a lack of fact checking, but as a (thankfully petrol only) RX-8 owner, I feel it's my duty to point out that the light bulbs branded "Mazda", where made by General Electric, and nothing to do with the Japanese car manufacturer.

you could do with a "light bulb" / "idea!" icon, BTW...

@gleb

"why wikipedia is in a financial rot (sic)"

And don't shoot me, I've been back in IT for the last 8 years - the 2 years in marketing was a temporary aberration.

"the opt-out works means the contents of the websites you visit will still be mirrored to its system"

so, you can opt-out, browse some dodgy sites, and then shop Phorm to the kittie-porn-cops?

Data pimping: surveillance expert raises illegal wiretap worries

Stop

@Maurice Shakeshaft

for telephone cold calls, you can (in theory) opt out by subscribing to the telephone preference service ( http://www.tpsonline.org.uk/tps/ ).

Perhaps we need a similar service to opt out of Phorm-supplied ads...

Microsoft launches student Java and LAMP challenge

you lucky, lucky bastard...

learning UNIX and C at uni? You lucky, lucky etc. etc. We were subjected to using 1st gen Macs as terminals to code ADA and Pascal on (IIRC) ICL Level 80s, and Occam on transputers(!).

So, that's an education that's served me well in the real world....

Shop Smart, Shop AppleMart

This isn't the first time you've used words "smartphone" and "iPhone" in the same context - what's "smart" about the iPhone?

Shell IT staff disgusted at mega profits

"the biggest ever profit for a 'British company'"

That's an unusual way to describe a multinational corporation with it's headquarters in Holland.

Beware the populist mash oozing out of Facebook and YouTube

@evil graham

there's already www.arsebook.com - though it's not entirely SFW.
