Another poorly conceived overpriced under performing solution looking fro a problem from supposed engineer and attention seeking Dyson? Surely Not!
Idiot estate agents.....
Didn't know broadband speeds or mobile coverage when we were looking. Sooner the internet kills these dinosaurs the better........
Got to stick me in the me too category. Bought an iPad 3 (because I was not going to get a beta product this time round) and I imagine it will last about as long as a laptop. I surf, read magazines and books play the current zynga/facebook game and see no reason to upgrade.
Phones tend to get upgraded every 2 years because they seem to loose battery and have a harder life. And because it doesnt cost me anything of course :-)
QNAP, various macs, rokus and other clients plus plex keeping it all talking, Easy peasy. Can access my stuff when out and about too. Simples.
Re: It's a shame
Surely no! A reasoned and thought through argument on the internet. What is the world coming too? Will nobody think of the trolls!!!
Apple, in recent history, have been reliant on inventing the next big thing. While phones and tablets will carry on making them money their market share will only go one way. And with no big thing in a while investors are off elsewhere......
There is a lesson there and it is this is what happens when you didnt pay attention at school.
Crashplan plus good friend plus G4 mac mini does it all for me for free (ignoring bandwidth and power). On the downside Crashplan no longer support the powerPC macs but it still works. I use it for half a dozen macs and two windows machines.
QNAP boxes can run a copy too, which is handy.
As a slight aside though just Crashplan does not protect against iPhoto library corruption. From harsh personal experience the package based file structure and incremental backups dont work well together. So while I had tested crashplan to restore an entire iPhoto libray what I didnt realise was the library slowly slowing down (and eventually loosing photos) was being accurately backed up. When I figured it out I had a nightmare rebuilding it all.

Where is my 1TB iPod for my uncompressed music collection?
Re: A can of worms..
Ahh yes and you have spotted half of the story. At no point ever do dyson ever say anything about filters. They always talk about bags. That they can not make a cyclonic filter work on the mass of dust is not immensely surprising but that they use filters and dont ever mention them till you buy one and it stops as pretty much as inefficient as any other hoover.
On the plus side they look pretty, are massively overpriced, brittle yet heavy. All you want in a vacuum.
Oh and if you phone them refer to their vacuum as a hoover. They love it......
And this years winner of the EA Sim City award for fucking up something where its easier to succeed goes too......
Technically I ought to tell a bunch of people should I scoot over to France on my boat. Do I bother? Not often anymore. I make sure I have the right documentation but I am seldom asked for it beyond occasionally needing proof of who I am to secure a spot in a harbour. Even with a trip to Morocco in the voyage log the customs man (who I seemed to have bumped into rather than explicitly asking to come aboard) seemed more interested in the electronics suite than what I had aboard.....
Excellent, another one of my shares exceeds appl :-)
Re: Want it done well?
That was Railtrack not Virgin Rail. What you are doing is blaming National Express for jams on the M25
Re: David, you missed the point
Why would a milled PLASTIC gun make a metal detector go mental? The OP said nothing about milling in metal.
BTW a CNC mill costs a few grand, is a proven technology and trivial for anyone to make 3d shapes in any material. I could make a passable gun with 3 grands worth of machinery I have in my garage. A mill, lathe and piller drill are plenty. And whats more it would work and not blow up in my hand. A gun is a trivial machine to make.
If you are using your 9milli its already gone shit yourself, i am going to die, titsup in a handbag, Beiruti unload and hit the deck is the sop and hope your mates behind you.
Re: Road trains..,
That horrific crash on the M5 would not have happened if everybody had been driving correctly. The highway code is clear. You must be able to stop in the distance you can see to be clear. That some many drivers were not was the issue.
My magic fire starting mixture: equal parts petrol, brake fluid, diesel and old engine oil (chip fat will do at a push). Easy to light and pour. Very tricky to put out........
UK Office straw poll
My office, 5 people:
Interestingly the two of us who own a PS3 and a Wii tend to flit between the two.
Amongst my friends a few PS3 owners (4 or 5) no XBoxs
Leaning to the pro nuclear but pretty close....
Pretty close, shame about the poor chemistry re Hydrogen
Might have been a little more sensible to give it 3 days (doesnt it take about 5 to drop this design to a 'off' temperature with fully functioning cooling?)
Off course even if its all ok, and its pretty obvious its all ok at the moment, it will not stop fat block down the pub gobbing off, it went bang didint it?
Steve because a little radiation can do us good......
Torx hard to find???
Total bollocks. Torx are popular in the electronics industry and have been for yearssbecause they are easy to use at very small sizes. Getting hold of the drivers might have been trickier in the days before the internet but then so was getting hold a 58mm socket. RS, Rapid and Farnells have always carried them.
Even Torx Security were never that hard to find.......

5.7N vs a 10 tonne vehicle in the absence of any other forces.......
a = 5.7/10,000 = 0.00057m/s^2 = fat end of fuck all..........
after an hour 2m/s approx 4mph
after a day 49.25m/s approx 100mph
after 4 weeks 1378.94m/s approx 2500mph
after a year 17926.27m/s approx 36000mph
36000MPH quick enough for you?
Bookies are good at gambling.......
Poker punters aren't. Play against the professionals if you want. Me I prefer the easier option......
Most players have a crib sheet.......
From my the stickies on the side of my monitor I see pocket aces win 1/3 all the way to the river (in the absence of more information) and a host of other snippets.
But you need to know how to use these odds. A high pair vs KT suited for example? A suited on flop? How do the hand odds compare with the pot odds. Are you seated in a strong position or a weak position.
So for the pocket ace question play hard and early KT suited stick around when pot odds make betting a good value proposition etc etc
The attraction for online poker is that, compared to other gambling, is that the house takes a fixed rate. This means if you are good you can walk away with more than you started.
Because the site makes its money on the volume of money moved its own players only need to break even or maybe suffer a small loss and the site will still profit overall.
What people confuse with bots are the 100s of people I know who make a little here and a little there form these sites. I never play anything higher than $5/$10 but over the years have made a few thousands on these sites as a little hobby in the evening. Of course I have a shit list of avoid at all costs players (who wants to play with those better than oneself?) but every now and again you get accused of being a bot........
Going the way of the Macintosh.....
As I have said before Apple will introduce the premium and market braking product. Initially rapidly gaining market share before the products become commodities. At this point cost becomes more important and Apple will retreat to quality/integration niche.
Fine as long as they know this is happening and innovate new products......
iPad, iPhone == Mactintosh V2
Is this the beginning of the same thing that happened last time Apple had a killer product? In 10 years time will Apple be selling 5 - 10% of the smart phone/tablet machines and we all ask ourselves how they threw away their dominance again?
I think they will, sure their products will always be much better than Android and they will charge proportionally but Android doesnt have to be as good as iOS just a good enough price/functionality ratio that the additional price for the Apple device is not worth it.....
Badgers because my Uncle was the first person to deploy this road sign.
Isnt having a mobile wireless basestation following you around the same as pasting a big target all over your infantry?
Easy peasy to remember 50 character passwords.......
The first 50 characters from a favourite book,
The first 50 characters from pi,
Combine the 2,
You dont need to know the key just how the key is created....
TeeCee could try google....
"On time and on budget."
Even though the government stole back the railways from the shareholders half way through the development and a gazillion other idiotic Blair/Prescott fuckups throughout the build.
If we left running the railways to people who know what they are doing and didnt move the goal posts every 2 years things would be better. Ho hum you get what you pay for i guess and the Brits a re too cheap to afford decent trains.
"Bored of idiots down talking British Railways when its twats in government fucking it u"p.
