The Fat iPhone, 11 years on: The iPad's over a decade old and we're still not sure what it's for

Wonderful!

So we are giving up backward compatibility to save the frustration of an upside down USB cable.

Billionaire dumps Apple stock because Steve Jobs was 'really awful' guy

Re: Steve Jobs

I do agree with what you say (about general public being responsible), however the purpose of banks to society (as I see it) is to factor in the risk of default, and price it into the loans they are issuing. Joe Public wants the shiny toys, and the banks should have been able to say "no you can´t afford it" . They didn´t do that, needed a bailout from the public purse after their loans went bad, and keep on awarding themselves outrageous bonuses afterwards.

Both sides are to blame.

Re: And woe betide if you don't have *exactly* that specific version of the language they want.

I think this a problem of the recruitment industry, and the idiots that it employs. I am sure there is a better alternative than these idiots that are capable of matching two keywords in a search, and talking shite on the phone for half an hour to cover up for the crap salary they are trying to get you interviewed for.

UN locks Apple, Google, Microsoft in a room for patent peace summit

WTF?

Why?

Why is it the huge multi-national companies, the ones that can afford the lawyers that get a say. Are they not the ones who benefit the most from the absurdity of the current system?

Mexican election loser and Anonymous say vote was 'fraudulent'

CollyWolly
Stop

Not really a case of bad loosers.

Over here in Mexico right now. Most of the educated Mexicans I have been speaking with seem to think that Peña Nieto's party is easily the most corrupt, and there was talk of vote buying (in the very poor areas) well before the result.

Doesn't sound like anyone with a clue actually wanted him in but there are a lot of areas of Mexico that are still very poor (one town I was in only got electricity in 2004), so votes could easily be bought, and bribes are common practice here.

@Piloti

Actually talking with real Mexicans would give you a bit more insight into the reality of it all. The few Mexican I know have been posting against the corruption for the last few months on Facebook now.

In my experience, any comment starting with "I'm no fanboi / apologist but", will almost guarantee a faboi / appologist comment to follow.

And well done for almost doing exactly what the previous poster suggested some apologist would do next- claim that it is fine for Apple to do it because everyone else does.

On the other hand

I work with a lot of bioinformatics people, many of whom come from a biology background and are self taught with the programming side. Some of them can code properly, but many of them are worse than useless - for example producing millions of files and cocking up the network filesystem for everyone, instead of taking half a day to lean to use a bit of SQL and put it in a database table.

Fitts law is a bit outdated I would say

Fitts law must have been concieved in a time when screen resolutions were a lot lower and people likely didn't multitask with anywhere near as many windows as today.

It doesn't mention the difference between a small mouse push that can be done with the wrist, or having to lift the mouse off the table, and do a second push- more likely when you need to go right to the top of a large high res monitor. It is also relevant only to the time to find the menu, not to get back to the original window.

I personally find the Appla Mac style universal menus annoying to use.

maybe its sex with mac fans that is the problem

http://www.snagfilms.com/films/title/macheads/

First few minutes of this film, Violet Blue or someone. Claims she has never knowingly slept with a Windows user, (then complains how crap it is anyway).

Given the choice of that or porn on an iPhone, I think the iPhone would win.

Car analogys

While we are on the car analogy theme with changing oil, is it not about time for some Mac fans to jump in and equate owning a Mac to owning some expensive brand of car, while owing a PC is like owning some cheap crappy brand of car....?
