BBC crowdsourced mobile map: A bit quirky, but useful

Rowley

Mmm

Yes, and they worked together to get the data. The exposure the BBC have given to the project has worked.

New Mac scareware variant installs without password

Rowley

Change your users!

Create a standard user and use that account. That negates most, if not all of this "auto install" stuff, as you will need the admin password to authenticate anything going into the applications folder.

Nine Inch Nails cracks net distribution (maybe)

Got it - eventually

The model I think is sound, a free version (a teaser so to speak), and different versions, which are chargable. He got my $5, and it goes direct - something that a lot of fans like. Ghost I, for people who got the free version, I'm sure will be left wanting,

Now that The NIN webteam know how much bandwidth they need for a release.

It's still early days for this model and I thank Trent Reznor for getting involved.

BBC mulls dropping Flash as iPlayer meets iPhone

Stream Vs Download, appletv rental model, then consoles, then linux

Flash is coming to ipod touch/iphone anyway - why can't they wait?

According to the beeb people use iplayer for streaming more than download (streaming is at 90%) so I dont think it's being dropped.

Once the encode away from wmv to H264/mp4/flash, an ip restrictive iplayer on macs using a converted transmission client or something is only a short time away. or talking with apple and giving content to the uk (only) itunes store would be a doddle to distribute for free. This out make it easy to go onto ipod, ipod touches, iphones and especially apple tv, which would be a major boost. Rent for free for the week, buy for £2 a pop. More revenue for Apple and the Beeb, it's coming, I can feel it. Apple would have to get their arses into gear and get the rental model over here.

Consoles and linux are further down the line I'm sure - only time will tell.
