BT confirms it's switching off 3G in UK from Jan next year

Roger Mew

Coverage

The range / coverage of 4G and 5G is very low, possibly 2-3 miles, it means that as the frequency being so high does not bend around the world so if you cannot see it then you cannot receive it. Frankly in some places it will mean a total loss of phone coverage. For example 5g is possibly only about 2-3 postcodes, so if you have a house in a fairly isolated valley , nearest neighbour a couple of miles away then forget the mobile, no chance. Have you noticed the large towers with what looks like drums on them? have you, well these are often in similar frequencies aimed at another tower and these run many kilowatts often but they must be LOS, or line of sight. (incidentally these may cause serious health problems when the signal touches land or a sprog due to a bent dish). If not then no operation.

It's been 230 years since British pirates robbed the US of the metric system

Roger Mew

It is all very well saying go metric, but I have machines that use various imperial, I do not feel that I need to change and if someone else uses something else so be it , BUT there are different metric threads, coarse, fine, different coarse, really fine so where does one stop. I might as well carry on using my 1/2" 21 tpi etc my zeus book has the differences and my old bikes and machines are all going together thanks. I do not need metric thank you very much. However, the different size metric spanners are a pain in the rectal passage and 18 mm cannot be found easily yet spark plugs are that! Various other sizes are also weird. Stupidly, I can buy a pound of cheese in France but get told that I cannot in the UK.

Miniature nuclear reactors could be the answer to sustainable datacenter growth

Re: What about the operational costs?

All small units running for a local area would be just that a local unit, sealed and computer connected would be very compact etc. and also, these units would be just a local transportable thing. These machines also would be in railway feeders as joint local machines. Of course there is a bonus, nice people like Putin may find a bit of a problem also/ Should someone like Putin damage the machine then the unit could be picked up and dropped into the lap of those that have done the deed. In fact the unit could be dropped from a very great height onto the nefarious thugs and the person or persons that have done the deed will be in a pretty bad way very quickly.

I am afraid that people like The Putin state must be now classified as a criminal terrorist state. In fact, should a terrorist state have a plane downed with a nefarious bomb on it then it must be delivered back to that state. I am getting very fed up with continued aggressive and violent types that really need "help" to stop their aggression!

ReJust exchange and all are on contract hire!:

Most will be on contract hire and be on a trailer. It need servicing, fuel etc then unplug tow it away and plug the new one in. Also it means that as the things get developed then they can just be exchanged.

Engineer sues Amazon for not covering work-from-home internet, electricity bills

Roger Mew

Well this could catch a cold. So, if the guy had his office a cycle ride away then he may be on a winner, but if he has to pay for his vehicle, a train etc he is possibly on a loser. Why OK if he rode a bike to work his central heating goes off, his lighting goes off, his computer goes off (and is not using space) and he also is not using his furniture and so on, BUT should he catch a train to work the courts will have to asses his extra costs and then take his savings by not catching the train. He could then be told to repay the company that money as he is making a profit on his costs. His company pay him taking into consideration his expenses, so if he has not got them, he must pay the company back any differences. Cuts both ways!

France levels up local video game slang with list of French terms to replace foreign words

Re: Nous devons arrêter ces actions!

You all may like the following. At the side of the roads around here you will find concrete blocks with the tops painted red with distances etc for "mile posts". These are in fact cast in US mail boxes and were for the drivers of materiel for the war to know the red route. The same for empty trucks and ambulances and the tops were painted blue. There are also large things with insignia on them and distances again sometimes on them. These are drop tanks that have been filled with cement to mark the roads, (now they are made out of fibre glass,) German 5th columnist cannot easily alter them. Now as a plus, the shape of the stop sign is actually based on the lids of parachute dropped parcels for the soldiers and the STOP was actually in honour of the Canadian soldiers, many being French, that were here liberating France. Lastly, driving on an auto route or 4 ways in the centre of the road there is every kilometer a small road sign with the distance marker on it. This is again shaped as a US mail box with the rounded top Red and the bottom cream. There, some things about France that the French do not know!

Roger Mew

Re: Nous devons arrêter ces actions!

What really annoys me is the sign in bars a Gestapo Law either in Red and white writing or white and Red writing. Many French do not know this was a gestapo law registering bars. It gets worse, I live in 44 (loire Atlantique). It should be in Brittany, the head of the Gendarmerie for here is in Rennes, 35 and in Brittany but we are not. So many gestapo laws still being upheld. yet these wallies get involved in a bit of English. In fact this part of France was originally English, and it was also at one time gaelic speaking, Celtic. Now the French government is ACTIVELY involved in stopping Gaelic! No, OK so why send a professional teacher of Gaelic to some out of the way place to teach French a language I was informed she was not fully able to teach. She taught here in France, Gaelic and something else, possibly maths, yet the French government sent her to a small island. (the education system here determines where you will teach!) Incidentally, here in France we are not supposed to complain publicly.

Roger Mew

Re: I'm confused

Because it is almost 2 times as long to say it, as a consequence the younger people will not use it. I was surprised some years ago to see a university student text " R U cumin 2nite" in French it would be pages long , yes I do know that that is a bit of an exaggeration but hey " Vous venez ce soir ? Certainly longer and not possible to shrink!

Roger Mew

Hi I am also French and what the French young people are against is the fact that anything in French is about 2 times longer than in English. Worse, half the french get French wrong. It is so complicated that even one of the French language books has French language mistakes. This book is renown in France. To try and get the French younger people to use a French description will not happen. I talk to youngsters and see just how annoyed they get when things like this happen. A child I know speaks English and French and is doing Spanish at school yet her French school attainment is "moyen" but she is getting about 5 or 6 out of 20, 18 out of 20 in English and Spanish. Frankly I love to hear French but schools are making kids afraid to speak English or in fact any other language. As a result the kids do not do as well as they could. I have been with French people for about 60 years both here in France, and in the UK, they mostly can understand English spoken slowly, but are timid to speak it. To therefore try and stop the kids using English is a dramatic and very retrograde step!

Rolls-Royce consortium shopping for factory sites to build mini-nuclear reactors

Roger Mew

Hi here in France we have some large areas near to Nantes and Rennes that are not too good for farming, have good transport routes, and the availability of highly competent technical people. We have one of the largest shipbuilding ports in Europe here and best yet get good grants for setting up a business. It should also be of note that land here is far cheaper than many other countries in Europe. You would be welcome to come here with people that also are ok in not only French but English, and Spanish. Further, being in Europe and not on a little island separate from the EU accessing parts and staff is so much easier than from England.

Not looking forward to a greyscale 2022? Then look back to the past in 64 colours

Roger Mew

Some 40 years ago I worked for the USAF and we had my van painted purple and pink. The AG team came around and they had a fit, firstly, I had a forklift that no one in the UK could wire the charger up (I was not only an electrician by trade, into electronics and also REME) I had, it worked and it was just a case of reading all the info, anyway, they turned around and saw my purple and pink 3 ton Boyertown Chevy 6 cylinder truck. They asked me what that was, so gave them the nomclemature, then the colonel said "no the colour? " to which I said grey it says so in the American dictionary, it states all colours between black and white! He laughed and said well you have the right answer, and I will send some senior officers to see you in respect of all the US electric forklifts that they cannot seem to hook up.

Re: Power socket on the lighting circuit?

When on my apprenticeship, another guy lived in a line of houses called in the UK a terrace. Now he decided to change his wall outlet for a double in his bedroom. Being an apprentice he shut down the whole house, took the old single gang socket off and got an electric shock. It transpired his socket was on next doors power circuit and theirs was on his!

Traffic lights, who needs 'em? Lucky Kentucky residents up in arms over first roundabout

Roger Mew

Roundabouts on roundabouts

Hemel Hempstead was the first to have roundabouts on roundabouts and I taught my wife to drive there. When my daughter was born they opened at the same time about a few yards away the same at High Wycombe. My wife took her test there a few weeks later and the examiner was about to stop my wife going the "wrong way around" but realised she was right and he was wrong. She was the first that had gone the wrong way around some 40 years ago. The traffic has not eased and the problem of traffic has not gone away, but the worst type of roundabout is the split one where traffic has 2 small ones linked, really dangerous and France Loves 'em. The French help, most cars are not fitted with Clignotes, or indicators to you and me, and the driving examiners say "watch where there front wheels are aiming!" You have to realise France is the worst country in Europe for accidents, the following distance for most countries, is 2 seconds or 2dont be a fool use the 2 second rule2 in france it is "Fxxk it" so a roundabout does not help. On most you give way to traffic already using the roundabout, not France, some are not standard, helps improve the accident numbers, then there are lanes, trucks have to go around the outside so if a truck comes on behind you and is going to the final exit and you are going to take the exit opposite even though you cannot see the truck nor if it is indicating, you have to give way to it!!!! Result, you belt around the outside lane making sure you are indicating correctly and cars in front have to give way to you. So in France, wear your dents with pride!

Brit MPs and campaigners come together to oppose COVID status certificates as 'divisive and discriminatory'

Roger Mew

I agree but the method of getting there, I suppose all on the plane could be like minded idiots, and the plane on its way to its last flight. I do not like the fact of having to do it, but what other option is there. So No jab certificate, then you are not coming into my pub, aeroplane, bar, restaurant etc it is not compulsory for me to accept you coming in!

Roger Mew

Really they cannot expect me and mine to welcome them!

Yes its devisory, same as not being able to drive a car without a licence, or being able to go abroad with a drug offence, or not having any money means you cannot have a holiday. If a person has no certificate to prove an attempt to block the virus eg a vaccination, then we do not want them mixing with us, irrespective of where "WE" are. Be it on an aeroplane, boat, holiday village, or a pub or hotel. So to those that do not want a certificate or test, then do not be upset when told not here thanks. The easiest way will be a certificate to prove you have had the 2 jabs etc. You will need jabs also to go to certain places for other diseases to other places and a certificate. So look for the "NO CERTIFICATE! THEN NOT HERE PLEASE" It may not become mandatory but it will be obligatory to do something!

How do we combat mass global misinformation? How about making the internet a little harder to use

Roger Mew

Mmm very clever, at 75 years of age the internet is getting very complicated anyway for example many people in France have not applied forthe covid inoculation because they cannot apply manyasthey have no computer and more as it is too complicated to find the correct page. How about just cutting all telephone lines and scrapping all electronics. End all misinformation, easy.

Huawei set to exit server, storage, networking business in the UK

Roger Mew

As the UK winds down after no longer being anything...period, not just in Europe but anywhere, there is no point in Huawei even bothering with the uk or probably England. They are after investing in nice big juicy plumbs, not dried up prunes that are left on the shelf. England has to wake up and smell the coffee, driving a double decker bus down a block ended country lane is crass at the best of times, in a thick fog and in darkness reversing out is going to be at best a mess and also take years. No wonder Huawei is downsizing (getting out!)

Amazon declined to sell a book so Elon Musk called for it to be broken up

We're number... six. Analysis puts UK behind Switzerland and Kuwait in 5G adoption

Roger Mew

Frankly, switzerland will not gain too much from 5G as the mountains will cause problems for such a high frequency, and Kuwait really probably does not need it! So if the UK is behind them the UK situation is REALLY bad!

Minister slams 5G coronavirus conspiracy theories as 'dangerous nonsense' after phone towers torched in UK

Roger Mew

Hi, I caught this ruddy virus here in France at the end of January long before anybody woke up to it. I caught it from our optician in Nozay, I did not have it too badly

requiring hospitalisation for 24 hours at Chateaubriant at the beginning of February, BUT they never realised! I then had, sore throat taste problems tummy problems blood pressure problems breathlessness, stability problems, a cough and loads of phlegm like marbles, taste problems, eye mucous. I suppose I must have spread it all around Chateaubriant as It was not realised I had it being the beginning of February. I am well clear now it took several weeks to get better, so weak. I am 74, have diabetes and most importantly live in a micro wave link that affects electronic stuff. This link affecting our house has been confirmed by others and also I was originally an instructor in Radio, radar and electrical. Was this the reason that I did not suffer too badly.

Roger Mew

If someone says that 5G causes problems ask them if they voted for Brexit, their answer will of course then Identify them as to the likely hood of the response. I will leave you to add 2 + 2 and if they come up with 5 (G). Now for some sense, microwave links are sprogging all over the place and may actually be killing the Corona 19 virus. However the powers that be do not want you to know that. So being near a 5G mast could save your life. Now the reason the state do not want you to know this is that they need to reduce the number of people especially those that are taking money from the state. So mark those with medical problems, those of age, those of lesser income so less protection against the virus. Now if the governments can reduce the people that have problems and taking monies from the state then the country will be better off in the long term. So the fact that I have discovered that being in a microwave link will help protect you the state KNOW this and will not want you protected. Just think 10% of the population banged on the head, mostly those getting funding, house prices and need reduced, less spending on NHS, less on other things like pensions and so on. So.... I have had it, and am 74, have diabetes live IN a microwave link was hospitalized for the headache some 4 weeks before it was a pandemic, had sore throat, headache, sudden high blood pressure, breathlessness, stomach problems., eye problems, fatigue and so on and know who I caught it from and have been clear for some 2-3 weeks and did not have a temperature , all why was I so spared, yes I live in an a warranted microwave link. So the government WANT you to stop 5G as it may help you survive and they do not want that.

EU tells UK: Cut the BS, sign here, and you can have access to Galileo sat's secure service

Roger Mew

Surely if you get a divorce then you have to leave the shared toys that are owned originally by the other behind, certainly if they had a car then you would not then be a co-owner of the car. The UK HAS to realise that you cannot have your cakey AND eat it. Boris is making enough money out of brexit for himself and Reece=Mogg he cannot now say that he wants also to have all. No, it does not work like that. I am afraid those of us that have decided to be European to protect our families and allow them to continue as such, (Je suis Francais) do not really want a bankrupt britain that cannot actually join the WTO because of its debt, and keeps whingeing on about what others are doing. Please, now that you are starting to realise that its cold outside, do not ask us to now open the door. We here in the EU acknowledge that it has problems, be we French, German and English that know better, or what have you, also acknowledge that altering a club is done on the inside, not on the outside throwing soggy rocks. We HAVE tried to help you but not only have you ostracised many of your own people with not having the vote, you have actually kowtowed to the poor IQ of those that know no better allowing those like Johnson, and Reece Mogg make a killing at the expense of your own poor and industry. You have destroyed your own source of medical staff and your own export potential, and now are complaining because that scenario was obvious. Really! I am wondering what you are going to complain about next, lack of fuel probably and having to reopen coal mines!

Whoa, whoa... Tesla slams brakes on allegations of 'unintended acceleration' bug: 'Completely false and was brought by a short-seller'

Roger Mew

If there is a glitch in the hardware that actually for some reason activates the "go" mode then it will record that the client hit the "go" pedal. I discovered this with a totally separate problem on electronically controlled kit. In fact I found that it was possible for the "Go" wire to touch something else. I then discovered a radio signal could do the same. Do not assume that because the memory says something that it is written in stone. Little story, some years ago about 25 actually in an old land rover and talking on my RT set, a Porsche Targa roared up behind me and went to overtake. He did not, but load pops and bangs from his exhaust and loads of black smoke. I released my pressel and the car went to pass, I responded to my friend and the Porsche went into frenetic s again. So you have to concede that Porsche's and my radio transmitters do not agree.

Second time lucky: Sweden drops Julian Assange rape investigation

Roger Mew

Yet again this is a waste of time and money. Why, just because the US of A is pissed off that he disclosed a password, really, and now the UK is paying £2000 to £3000 a week to keep him in nick. Hopefully the UK are sending the bill to the US to keep him in prison. Why should the UK pay for that when the US refuses to send people who kill back to the UK. Its about time the UK told the US that the same rules apply both ways.

Re: @disgustedoftunbridgewells

Actually you are correct, all the universities have done various things and it seems that in general a low IQ means a Brexit voter and over 100 is almost always a reamainer. What does that say! Unless they have a financial axe to grind eg Reece Mogg many millions in the event of Brexit!

Roger Mew

Actually before the stupid shoot yourself in the foot Brexit vote, it was. The reason, Cambridge. However the boffins that would have been employed will also go to Germany. Many other companies will also be thinking seriously as well. If Brexit goes ahead then it has to be realized that the UK for hi tech businesses is going to be a no no. OK lets look at the reasons. The EU universities will have the pick of the EU countries and visa versa for the students. So the opportunity to cherry pick for both the Universities and the students is higher. Worse, the UK has a surfeit of lower IQ inhabitants. That can be seen as many cannot understand that brexit will destroy the UK. Forget the food, it is the brain drain that will hit. The people that will make money will be the likes of Reece Mogg and Boris. The UK has little or no engineering base, it has all been financial services. Even the Fishermen have not realised that the fishing areas are going to be severely curtailed worse their normal export areas eg France and Spain will not be buying from the remnants of the uk. It will be a sad day for the uk if brexit happens. Now think about the NHS many medics are leaving and going back to their home countries. Never mind you can train the various unemployed to be brain surgeons etc. cant you. (Well no actually!)

Bloodhound rocket car target of 550mph put on ice after engine overheat

Roger Mew

Just a thought, for it to be a vehicle the wheels have to be driven. In the 1972 I was at Lakenheath in a US service vehicle and gave a lift down the flightline to a pilot whose plain was being serviced by my hanger. He got clearance to let me run the vehicle as I went back to the PX when he was taking off. For the record in his Macdonnell Voodoo I started and at the 1/2 mile point he started. I went as fast as the vehicle could go. He passed me at 1/2 mile + 50 yds at 55o miles per hour still on the ground and took off just in front of me. There was a reason why many people were interested, This I cannot go into but does this mean that his voodoo was a car, of course not so what is the difference to the thing they are running. Many many of Lakenheaths lower ranks enjoyed the above and was discussed by many, as was my purple US forces truck!

Margin mugs: A bank paid how much for a 2m Ethernet cable? WTF!

Roger Mew

Cables

Some 30 years ago a company I did a lot of work for asked for a quote from a so called computer company to run some computer cables. The owner thought it was a bit steep to put it mildly, and I said well to us cables are cables and we did it for time and materials. We used screened cables, run the cables hidden as much as possible, soldered not crimped the connections and ran the cables away from anything else like electric. It worked out much cheaper and the computers just plugged in and away they went. Unfortunately the client had already had joe cowboy do 2 computers from the server at his other business and asked me to have a look. We looked at ours first by my lads, then went to look at Joe cowboy's effort, No screen, mini trunking just glued and coming of the paint on the walls and run against the Electric sockets cabling, and connections crimped to poor connections. Even the non technical client saw the difference.

My best laugh was when teaching a council about the fraud of so called PAT testing which is not what was really the aim. I did my lecture and said lets look at the garage ( Oh said the safety Officer I have just paid some agency in Norfolk £3000 to do it.) So the office girls went work. rip Off Reg from Norwich well it says it all within about 5 minutes the girls came up with:-improperly fitted plug, frayed cable exposing inner cores the ubiquitous nail for a fuse, incorrectly connected plug. and also a hand lamp with the ground wire broken off. The Environmental health officer called a halt, went off to accounts, and told the accounts to stop the check and to call rip off Reg to come down now or he would call the police and have him done for fraud. They did their own after that, it was a site cheaper having me come down and show them than buying a pat tester or having Rip Off reg in. how can you PAT test a two wire double insulated appliance, answer, you cannot. over 50% of the appliances were 2 wire which meant physical lead inspection only anyway.

Brit couch potatoes increasingly switching off telly boxes in favour of YouTube and Netflix

Roger Mew

I also am watching Youtube as the TV programs are all violence, and it is wondered why there is violence on the street? Every single program on all the free channels on Satellite was a repeat and about 50% consisted of violence and swearing thrown in. So I watch for example "last of the summer wine", Bless this house", "Dads army", "Curry and Chips" (nicely racist that), and many more, all funny, light hearted and pick up and put down. Frankly stations like CBS are wasting electricity and air time showing 15 year old programs like Judge Judy.

Microsoft sends a raft of Windows 10 patches out into the Windows Update ocean

Roger Mew

Hmph

I found that the update ruined my printer connection and because the thing had stopped administrator my printer settings all went to cock and also altered the way the colours were attributed. After several conversations with MS, a complete new reload, and still no colour correction this being over 5 days, I discovered that as my colour was not correct that my screen colours were no longer correct and had to manually reset them. I wasted 5 days, it must have cost MS $1000's just for mine all due to someone's incompetence. Had I not my Win 7 computer as well then I would have been "dans le merde". Pleas MS get your act together or at least give us a chance to resort to our last trouble free version, in my case 7.

A few reasons why cops didn't immediately shoot down London Gatwick airport drone menace

Roger Mew

I know the reason for the delays on blocking the signal, they wanted to track it, however, the likely hood of tracking it is possibly worse than finding a needle in a hay stack. I used to teach radio and radar etc and with digital a micro second burst of RF sets the action, so to find the signal is very remote (no pun intended) so really blocking is the only course of action OR putting a very continuous action so for example sending it away with a signal of about 10 watts could see the thing going so high that the machine cannot be seen and just runs out of juice or of course down so it crashes. a direction signal will just make the thing go around and around. For my bet it is best to transmit a high power signal that sends it up. All these machines that are purchased have the same digital parameters so unless it is a very clever and stupid person that builds the thing himself the methodology will be the same for all.

Get with UK authorities, you probably will not track it but sure as hell you can jam the machines.

New Zealand border cops warn travelers that without handing over electronic passwords 'You shall not pass!'

Roger Mew

Oh dear so you give them the password, walk outside and change it! Really I do despair at these so called people that come up with these ideas. Have they not thought about that. If they had how about everybody having to go to the police station to show the new passwords, if they change it everyday then there will be some queues. Now the whole country can grind to a halt, and still the state will not know every body's access codes! In fact to really upset the entry people say oh well now I am here and the machine is open and you have seen it I will now change it!

Technically inept is the word I will use. Now we could go on a wind up, before you get to the entry port change your password to "inept", I wohat the comment will be when they get many with the password of inept. Will they realise that there is a conspiracy.

Re: 30 second ipv4 redesign?

And the 2 tier situation is what will happen!

Roger Mew

Re: 30 second ipv4 redesign?

Its not that simple, many countries mainly third world cannot just cope with that. They are still getting to grips with the internet anyway. If it is a case of just doing that then firdt world countries MUST accept the bill for converting all those third world countries that need it. IF and I say IF the powers that be want to upgrade, then they must make those that want it pay for those that cannot afford it!

Roger Mew

The thing is that we will end up with a third world or rather a two world internet situation. There must be better ways to extend the addresses rather than just screwing it all up. Look at the mess over the british rail system and trying to alter ALL the timetables at the same time!

Roger Mew

Re: The Thing With Brexit

One does not need to it does that on its own. We want this , we want to do that, .. and if not we are going to throw the baby out the window. Stop the TWIT lot now and save money and get Gove and crew to return the costs. Even Nigel Lawson wants a Carte de Sejour that is granted to those that want to work here in France. Kick him out the day after Brexit for no Visa and as an unwanted foreigner.

Roger Mew

It is time to drop brexit, the we want it all our way attitude of the british government has to stop. "They want it their way" attitude of the government is stupid beyond regard. They seem not to be aware of the Eire and Northern Irish problem, for example how are you going to stop cars going over illegal crossing points, replace the old signs that said "This is an illegal crossing point into Northern Ireland" and 50 yds further on "You are now in Northern Ireland!" , It is stupid and so is Brexit, many millions that could have been spent on the NHS. Worse, if the UK government had got people to display their ID at the hospital receptions and doctors then many millions would have been saved. Seems the letters spell out TWIT,

Britain must send its F-35s to Italy for heavy overhauls, decrees US

Roger Mew

Shortly the UK or more likely Britain, will not be able to afford nor have the technology to construct too much. They have just rejected entry applications from many highly skilled people that had jobs coming to the UK, the UK are being forced to leave the EU satellite space group, many high tech companies are leaving and heading for the EU, and some covertly, so shortly the thing between France and the UK over certain aircraft and other military stuff will have to end after brexit (the techies will not be able to travel freely amongst other reasons) so the best bet will be a rowing boat and some model aircraft. Further, the transport of vehicles to Italy will have a furious tax levied on them due to not being in the EU. The fall of the empire is almost nigh with just the rest of Ireland and Scotland remaining. With the US using Scotland as a base and separated from the UK then what can England afford.

Roger Mew

Re: gifts

Lookit the UK is phucked and it was offered to the US back in the 50.s and the government refused. The UK was in sooooo much manure something had to be done it was bankrupt. the EU was the only way to go. The toilet cleaner has now been added by Davies, it just needs the toilet to be flushed now.

BT pushes ahead with plans to switch off telephone network

Roger Mew

Re: Who has a land line at home nowadays?

You are soo lucky, a good mobile system that you can connect several desktops and have Youtube downloads all at the same time!! What the phuk is a mobile, they do not work here, We are lucky with outh our 2.0 mbs down and 600 up internet and should that be Voiped then there will be a lot less than that, approx 400 up and about 1.6 down so having a phone call will seriously disrupt your internet!

Firstly, without a modem you will not be able to make calls. So no electric, no call. Now much of the UK has no mobile phone coverage, so no mobile no call thats 2 out of 2, now in the event of a house fire you will probably have no electric, please place about 2 litres of oil in each room to help keep the fire going as long as possible. We have already had this "discussion" here in france, Aman was bedridden and needed the ambulance, the idiot had previously had his telephone connected to the VOIP system, There was a power cut, his breathing machine went off, his VOIP went off, luckily not for too long. I managed to get his phone back onto the PSTN but he got very annoyed with me because of that. I could not explain that he nearly died because of it. So if you go for a VOIP system and you have no mobile do ensure the mobile works and preferably have 2 on different systems.

PS I now also know of 2 house fires also that were not put out, the houses concerned being not put out and totally destroyed!

Transport pundit Christian Wolmar on why the driverless car is on a 'road to nowhere'

Roger Mew

Really, I think sheep just following!

Autonomous cars, oh yes marvellous in the country, sheep crossing road on unfenced road, stay there all day! How about going around corner and pedestrians just walking over road, does the car peer around the corner, still look straight ahead, so if the corner is a narrow road with pedestrians opposite does car just stay there. The system may be good on a motorway but stupid in many locations.

UK.gov admits porn age checks could harm small ISPs and encourage risky online behaviour

Roger Mew

The authorities just do not seem to understand computers, the internet or even porn sites and gambling. Many Americans are gambling online yet they are not allowed to, many UK citizens are getting blocked porn, yet again they are not allowed to. I use a VPN which I pay for and can therefore circumvent any silly state run cartel or the opposite. They would be far better off education the families on how to operate say openDNS. Last year I found that the IT section of my Grandaughters school did not know that children had circumvented all their blocking software. I had to explain it to them. My French grandaughters school has nothing!

Re: Haa Haa Haa

As the poo goes down the toilet and then gets spread on the fields the green grass will come from that. So people, do realise that you are going to flung onto the fields as fertiliser just as dung is. have no fear, gove and boris will be OK they will see the green shoots and be able to see and admire it, you dear reader have just been swallowed up! Unless of course Brexit is stopped. Companies no longer in UK Horlicks, MG, Thermos, Osram, Lucas car parts, some sweet companies, soon to follow car manufacturers Others have been swallowed by foreign companies and no longer exist in the UK and some soon to be going. Some major car parts makers are no longer in the UK so these that were English are now imports. So now you know, the turds go down the toilet (read the UK) get put into cesse pits (read UK people), fester for a while and then get puts onto fields to make fertiliser and then the grass grows. You will not see it!

Its not just clients that MS are screwing

What a surprise, it is not just clients that MS are screwing, but also staff. I do feel sorry for the girl but she really should be allowed to have the guy moved and not her. Of course there is another thought, get the women in the office to get him, debag him and then 1 by one all shag his silly arse with a dildo. Perhaps a photo on the office wall of his arse about to be shagged with a dildo may focus his mind!
