'Merge window from Hell' opens as Linus Torvalds reveals Linux 6.1

BOB JOHNSON

Re: Ha, ha, the bias is showing

It seems that 6.1 with Debian 12 boots using 20% more memory. I have the memory, I just don't like the increase when I'm not seeing any benefits. Maybe to gamers?????

Debian 12 'Bookworm' is the excitement-free Linux you've been waiting for

Re: Pipewire-pulse and wireplumber is installed, enabled and started, right?

On Debian 12 to get my bluetooth ear buds to pair and work I had to go to synaptic package manager and manually install libspa-0,2-bluetooth. Rebooted.

Tried two different sets of buds and they both pair and work.

Hope this helps.

Linux Mint Debian Edition 5 is here

KDE on LMDE and I'll use it. Until then I'll stay with Debian Bullseye with KDE. Plasma has come a long, long way and I prefer it over cinnamon or mate.

Yeah I know I could get LMDE to use KDE but is it really worth the trouble? I say no.

Plus there have been some older computers that I just can't get LMDE to install well but Debian Bullseye installs fine.

A Windows 11 tsunami? No, more of a ripple as Microsoft's latest OS hits 5% PC market

Re: Ha, ha, the bias is showing

Well when you have a market where a product is sold and said product has a contract with vendor and you must add their product, yep you will capture market share.

Or more aptly put the little lemmings that go to buy a PC only know that they want their Windows, or Word or anything else that is Microsoft. It is all they know, so the PC maker isn't stupid, they want to sell a PC and will install a Win OS. I am amazed at people who are astounded that I have computers that aren't running Windows but yet I can somehow send e-mail, write letters, create spreadsheets.

I come from the generation of DOS, when we had to do things to make our computers respond. There are now generations that only know an icon. Push, press and it that isn't happening they are lost puppies.

Heck, there are still XP users. How can they survive? Just kidding!

"According to StatCounter, desktop PCs in Armenia still primarily roll with Windows XP (via WinFuture). As of September 2021, 53.5% of desktops were using the operating system that landed in 2001."

Oh Britain, please come back so we in Brussels can control you.

So many young globalists don't see the end game of power and control that is craved by the elite. You can't control things when they are splintered among different nations but they can sure control you as a member of the EU.

You want how much?! Israel opts not to renew its Office 365 vows

BOB JOHNSON

Finally someone is stepping up and saying hey Microsoft....we have alternatives and ya better consider your price structure. Plus last week I saw that there is a lot of push back to the subscription fees for Office 365 Personal.

They are trying to squeeze money from something that reached its zenith a long time ago.

Firefox 57: Good news? It's nippy. Bad news? It'll also trash your add-ons

BOB JOHNSON

Chrome? Open any Android phone and what is so often on that phone is Google PlayStore . Aside from rooting the phone guess what else is on that phone....Chrome. So if you think the masses are using Chrome because they picked it out of a basket, I would disagree with that. Plus there is a young generation that will choose the path of least resistance and if Chrome is on their phone, that is what they will use. Heck there are people in their 20's that think it is a wonderful idea if the government does their taxes for them. Guess who will come out on the winning financial end of that one?

Then there are the people who have been around a while, that spent time trying out new browsers, that said to themselves, "hey I can customize this browser to my taste and there are add-ons that I find helpful." Those are the people who supported the growth and they are the people you lost and continue to lose. The generation that I mentioned that only know what is on their phone screen will probably never leave Chrome.

So if FF loses the small footprint of supporters, where will it be in 5 years?

BOB JOHNSON

Re: Users don't have any control?

But without user they are all nothing but code sitting in a back room with nothing to do. In 2017 as a user I did use the power of my feet and walked away from FF. I have made Opera my go-to browser again and it is fast enough for me.

BOB JOHNSON

Re: Just say no to parrotting Google

I can't even remember how many years FF was my go-to browser but it was many years. Then came the ugly, the ugly, the extension killer and I said goodbye to FF. One time I posted my distaste on Mozillazine and I received a tongue lashing. How dare you point out what many people are already pointing out --- you troll! Yep I was part of the bandwagon of people who were not happy, it was civil discourse from me but FF fans were not so civil. I was threatened that I either shut up or the moderator would ban me. So much for discussion.

So I let FF fall to the back of the classroom, there are enough browsers to choose from that I didn't need FF. I give it a whirl once in a while and find it to be a resource user and what seems to be a covert wanna-be advertising vehicle. I do not think FF will ever regain its market share. IMHO who ever was standing behind FF making decisions is the culprit, the person that inserted the poison pill.

Re: Serious question here....

I have an office of 15 people (was 25 until recession / depression hit). We are at around 70/30 (XP/7)split. I won't be giving Redmond anymore money for upgrades that don't produce an out of the box, user friendly product. Win7 was bad enough and created time lost - labor costs that I had to eat.

If I didn't need to use certain proprietary software, I would move the entire office to a Linux distro. I'm so miffed about the MS upgrade treadmill that I stop using any vendor that requires IE to view their site. There are plenty of other vendors that I can do business with and I don't need IE.

Why can't I sell it

I've always thought it was odd that I can't sell software after I no longer use it. Is there another product I can't sell once I am finished with it?

I am glad that someone is finally looking at these one sided contracts. I've read many times that a contract that is overly weighted to benefit on party is not a valid contract.

This will never be looked at in the USA because the software lobbyist's pay a lot of money to the government officials.

Good to hear this and it is about time!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

US judge debenched for jailing entire courtroom

Dead Vulture

They are not God

To the poster that said, "Judges are God in the courtroom." They may want you to think that but it really isn't true. Oh they may have power to use but if they use it in the wrong manner....well ask this judge. Actually (Judges hate this) but in the courtroom the power is in the jury. Not the judges, not the attorney but the jury.

Both attorneys and judges like to keep us fooled that "they" are the ones in charge. Full of it they are!

BOB JOHNSON

Dear Drum D

This is a civil judicial matter and what the #(&#( does what the Feds do in Guantanamo have to do with it. This was a judge that was stepping outside of his powers. Man some people can't tell you the weather without bring up the President. Do not get me wrong....I have a very, very long laundry list of things that the President is doing wrong.

Hm? Can't think of a President that I didn't have some sort of laundry list of things I didn't agree with, can you? I think anyone that agrees with a President 100% of the time has drank the cool aid.

Oh and BTW, a sitting President can not just start a war without the involvement of the other branches of government. I think there are even some running for President that voted for this war but of course denial is now running rampant.
