Re: Look on the bright side.
Not in my lifetime...
ONE HUDRED AND FORTY
Leaving aside the shouty bit, oh and the linking of the ISS & Walmart. It costs to get mass up there, DON'T MAKE NO NEVERMIND TO BRUNG IT BACK DOWN AGIN, GRANDPA!
Re: Nokia
Hey man, the 20th century called to see if you were still Compos Mentis.
Had to say "No", sorry.
@Destroy All Monsters
Oh do grow up!
They make mobile phones. That's it. They make mobile phones.
They're neither attempting to subvert your offspring, nor paint Big Ben magnolia!!
They could, in fact, be modelling Tutus for all the relevance your post has to the article.
Re: such a waste
"would of"
<omitted>
"would have"
There, it's not difficult, is it?
@Captain Underpants
The BBC is not state owned.
PS Nor is it state funded
Re: FUD
What's new?
Oh, nothing that the 1990's wouldn't recognise....
Already Moved on...
Re: Props!
The Grauniad contact this Florian geezer when they need info on software/IT patent issues and, presumably, he replies. They consult, he replies, he's a consultant.
Can't attest to his accuracy etc. but, by definition, he's really is a consultant.
You OTOH, by presuming that The Guardian actually has "technical credibiity" in the first place, fail at the first hurdle.
@Vector
Nonsense, one could use one's digit instead of a stylus on any number of Palm models.
Hell, even Amstrad beat them on that score.
Re: despite Microsoft offering customers deep discounts on Windows 8 upgrades
The revisionist twats comment is just childish.
But worth every penny.
Oh, and I'm not anonymous. You twat.
Third option
of course, is Eadon:
MICROSOFT FAIL YADDA YADDA
Beyond a joke now
Even for click-bait.
There's a rumour that Samsung is not the chip supplier for some shite idevice* and it's a 700 word article. The SGS4 is due to launch in a few days; we see fuck nothing, other than a snide article on wireless charging.

Interesting, but
Routing around physical damage from a laser is what I understand from TFA. Modern processors (or SoC) are tiny, and tend to be surrounded by laser reflecting heatsinks, gold, silver and tin contact material. You'd have to be pretty accurate with your laser to cause the self healing to initiate, assuming that the stuff you lasered through, to get to the chip, was also capable of self healing.........
At Ferranti in the 70's & 80's EMP proof processors were developed for use in computers, comms equipment & targeting devices. Those babies could carry on during & after a nuclear airblast. However it was accepted that if the equipment was close enough to be physically damaged....
win lose

lose win
Re: ..verry funny article...
Now I despise Microsoft as much as the next man, but your comment really takes the biscuit.....
It's rather akin to the poor arsehole trying to make a cup of tea who was in tears because the gas cooker wouldn't fill his kettle with water.
Eadon datchoo?
Re: despite Microsoft offering customers deep discounts on Windows 8 upgrades
@ GrantB
Pedantic - maybe.
Wrong - Not.
RDP: See RFC 908 (1984)
"MS" RDP is a proprietary protocol running over port 3389 (Terminal Services)
My keyboard is probably older than you. I hate revisionist twats.
Re: despite Microsoft offering customers deep discounts on Windows 8 upgrades
Quite how you used "Reliable Datagram Protocol" to remote to a PC is beyond me.
Terminal Services is not RDP!
Re: Let's not forget that DELL were the first into this market
Dell streak, wonderful & useful device, rather reminiscent of the jolly old motorcycle ashtray.
Re: No Nokia in this roundup then.
@ dogged
We're all so with you on this, have one

Young Eadon should take a chill pill first, then either get his lobotomy reversed, or his wisdom teeth put back in!

Please add "note to self" to your diary.. & include this text within:
When you've fucked up your grammar/spelling - don't respond to the person who points it out, it just makes you look like a tit.
Minesweeper - Perennial timewaster?
Not since Windows 3.1, that was the last time I can recall trying it.
Re: Duplicitous or naive?
I've never met anyone who has declaimed "I have a Python web app" (presumably followed by breathing on their knuckles and polishing them on their Christmas cardie) has anyone else here?
PS If, when someone exclaims "I have a Python web app" & you are unable to immediately ascertain, from the choices/options you mention, what the FTG means - try asking - he'll surely explain in excruciating detail.
Re: WAAAH! @Anonymous Coward
@ David W.
I quite agree, there's been an awful lot of frothing at the mouth here, generally by people who really haven't checked their facts.
I was also under the impression that Python is the name of a programming language, not a "Brand".
Re: Please leave your freedoms at the door...
We here know, as does any fule, that religious beliefs are the work of the devil.
Re: Instead...
Could you ensure your insurance?
@cashxx
Are you in the right place?
Best you check your bookmarks, this is El Reg not Macforums..
Re: Is it time for Apple...
With Google putting out much cheaper phones
Surely Google are just HTC re-badgers.
Re: um
UK billion or US billion?
@Chris Thomas Alpha
wealth beyond the dreams of avarice.
Avarice = Greed
How can you dream of riches beyond the dreams of greed?
@ sleepy
Didn't read the article to the end, eh?
Re: @Will Godfrey
fill them with tramps
Nah, fill them with pole dancers, then bar the neighbours entry.....
@ Toadwarrior
I've seen more people with Windows phones than the S3.Not sure where you're looking, I work with techies, I drink down the pub & I travel on public transport, so I see lots of people using phones, I've seen one, yes one, windows phone in the last 2 years & that was a German sales rep I was introduced to at a party in Germany, and he was embarrassed & kept trying to say it was Company supplied. Total bollocks obviously, no company on the planet would give windows phones to sales people, it's the quickest way to say to potential clients " We're wankers, don't buy from us".
My sisters' beloved Blackberry went titsup a few weeks ago (40° cycle) & she's now got an Siii. She knocks on her neighbours doors to tell them about it every day: "It knows when I'm looking at it!!!!! - OMG"
Re: Now where did they find that?
Excellent spot, puts a dampener on the article somewhat..
Re: Poor choice of materials?
"But it's anodised aluminium, which is very hard." But it's anodised aluminium, which is "harder" than aluminium but still has a lower "hardness" than copper. Anodising adds corrosion & wear (rubbing) resistance rather than "hardness" & is generally more often done for appearance (colour) than not. Strangely, anodising gives a higher chance of fatigue strength loss & it's as easy to scratch your bird's name in an anodised block of HE30 as it is in an un anodised block.
"Hard Anodising" OTOH does take Aluminium up to approx 450 - 500 on the Vickers scale and gives better wear resistance (so still not "hard") but adds improved electrical resistance.
OFFS!!
Better get some goggles for your nippers. Never know, they might play conkers...
PS Who would you sue?
@djack
Had my response ready, can't be arsed now. You. Sir; are a Prawnus Maximus....
What a specious argument.
Re: I call shenanigans
"I call shenanigans"
You call shananigans what? George? Ugly? Green? Theobald?
For heavens sake please speak English.
Re: Destroyer of broadband connections
@ mickey mouse the fith
"I had a mac code within an hour."
It should take no longer than 2 minutes. Were you on the phone for almost an hour?
Re: LLU win @ Skoorb
"geting (sic) BT engineers out within 4 hours"
Bollocks, not even your <insert deity> can get BT out to a DSL fault within 4 hours. Business or otherwise.
BT move slower than a striking Sloth.
Is it just me?
But does this make sense, in any shape or form?
Windows 8 to grab iPad market share wrested back from Android..
AC @ 14:28
"losing the worlds largest electronics company as a customer"
What? Samsung losing Samsung?
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Samsung_Group
Electronics are just a subsidiary!
I've got a Samsung TV, Samsung Blu-ray & a Samsung camera, my nipper has a Samsung phone & Samsung tablet, the missus has a Samsung vacuum cleaner & even a Samsung bloody toaster.
Not you as well, FFS!
"The 820 has lots going for it. There's the rounded corners"
Enough already.
Not sure where you're coming from?
Baristas, especially in starbucks, aren't that bright. Was in one in Peterborough the other day, bloke using the over-complicated-slows-down-the-queue-machine asks me for my name, bloke behind shouts out "don't tell him, for fucks sake, he'll spend so long sharpening his crayon I'll never get back to work on time!".
"Baristas": Isn't that Italian for burger flipper?
Please
Can we stop with the "rounded corners" bollocks on Every. Single. Article. That. Covers. Either. Samsung. Or. Apple.
You. Are. A. Twat!
Whilst I'm at it; can we also stop with the "get some popcorn" whenever anything remotely related to litigious twattery is reported.
I thank you..
@ Richard Cartledge
You want to nip into my village & get some real Lincolnshire, properly cured, not injected with salty water, middle bacon, rind on, from the village butcher who, conveniently has the other half of the shop as a bakery.
Ruskington :-)
Re: It's all about the cooking of the bacon
"fry it gently in a good glug of rapeseed oil"
No no & thrice no. Bacon, not the cheap Danish stuff that's 99.5% water, should be fried dry, let the fat do its devine work.
Re: Location, location, location
There's a van, located here:
https://maps.google.co.uk/maps?hl=en&ll=52.538175,-0.306027&spn=0.001343,0.004128&sll=52.538285,-0.30605&sspn=0.001349,0.004128&t=m&z=19&layer=c&cbll=52.538285,-0.30605&panoid=-LFKmwtfd5i9OLAwxgToIg&cbp=12,267.67,,0,5.79
That makes the finest Bacon & egg rolls in the universe. No sauce, just salt & pepper on a buttered torpedo roll. Devine. We place a bulk order for almost the entire office on a Friday morning & get them wrapped in foil, in a paper bag with our names on the outside, as there are perverts in the office who insist on sauce & you wouldn't want any cross contamination :-)
Re: Think again
James Dyson hasn't invented anything significant, all he did was take existing industrial cyclone designs, reduce the size & apply them to household cleaners.
He's probably not your best choice in an argument about patents.
