Keep in mind this bill renewed the patriot act and didn't really change the capabilities of the NSA. Basically this bill didn't do enough
Re: Does it need a Cloud?
This sounds made up. Can you cite a source or article? My experience with VS is if you install the free Azure tools pack you get the cloud stuff.
Re: The last throw of the dice?
Why the consistent 1 down vote?
Every post has at least 1 down vote. Is there some bot or (14 yr old ) down voting every post?
Re: Great looking phone...
Thanks for regurgitating the same old jab and the metro ux. Very creative and insightful. Really adds weight and credibility to your opinion...
Re: I swear
How do you know the remaining 20K employees aren't responsible for the areas you outlined? You're just making shit up. You have no idea why these people were cut and what the remaining people do.
seems a little hypocritical...
Perhaps the should ha e displayed the same level of zeal in figuring out why the federal website cost 3 times as much
Re: Who wants this?
Re: Who wants this?
And you have data to back this up?
I've worked with ther System Center stack for years and I can tell you that is not the case. System Center markets itself as being the private cloud solution but it doesn't actually pan out that way.
I bought a space heater for .91 BTC on BitcoinShop.us a few weeks ago. Didn't seem that gimmicky to me. Perhaps you should read up on stuff before you speak in such absolute and strong terms.
Re: Microsoft account needed for Facebook? ??
I just drags an icon onto the taskbar. What exactly are you saying you can't do? (running 8.1)
Re: 'Last EVER REAL Nokia' phone
If by "disaster" you mean the fastest growing mobile platform then ya sure...
Re: What lack of app?
nothing like 5 down votes for an accurate statement....
Re: Thanks for the consumer review
+1 for managed heaps :p
Re: Scary and unbelievable
Oh no!! positive comment regarding a company that is cool to hate!! DOWN VOTES FOR YOU!
Why don't we discuss the basics more as opposed to raw features.
For example how easy or fast it is to post to Facebook, or find an app, or make a call.
Seems like we only focus on a check list of features and not whether or not a device is any good at the things all smartphones do, because they are core to the experience.
Re: looks like a great midrange handset
I have a 920 and my experience with the batter is that is will last at least a day with plenty of reddit and work email and news reading.
for a while I worked in a building with crappy cell coverage and the phone was constantly working to maintain an Edge connection. This clobbered the battery and I'd have to put it on the charger to get it to last during the bus ride home. I'd almost prefer the phone just gave up and told me it didn't have any reception.
But I moved to a new building and the battery life is back to normal / fully day usage patterns
but it doesn't have instagram so what are they going to do with all those nice pictures?
Re: That old not-really Petronius quote comes to mind
love the reward people get for negativity in this crowd. Doesn't matter what the situation is. If you can post something clever and snarky the crowd loves it. Not actual substance or anything resembling an argument.
ya... all them profits are the result of terrible performance.
Is there any one in here that has actually shipped a software product?
Re: "XBOX Vista" already dead?
you're sooooo right. I mean XBOX one sold out on amazon in four hours....... Wait...
A quote from Amazon:
“We were thrilled by the unprecedented demand we saw for Xbox One today. In the first four hours of preorder availability, we sold through most of our Xbox One Day One Edition inventory. Customers eager to get an Xbox One should visit our store at Amazon.com/xboxone to ensure they keep up-to-date on the latest information. We are excited to be working with Microsoft to deliver the next generation of games and entertainment,” said John Love, the director of U.S. video games and software at Amazon.

I don't think all of the hysteria is warranted
Not jarring in 8.1
Go to the desktop and use file explorer. The Photo app in win 8 is such a pile of crap....
Re: Dragon Animation
how many apps can you actually use at one time? I can a hundred apps on one screen with the classic desktop but I can't actually use all 100.
Re: The start screen can't be managed
First legit IT criticism of win 8 I have seen from the The Reg crowd.
There is a difference...
between being hard to learn and not being as good as win 7.
Win 8 is hard to learn.
It is also better than Win7.
The same way Photoshop is better than Paint.
Re: Bunch of nancies
I even used the troll icon.
Re: Bunch of nancies
Bunch of nancies
The more I dig into this win 7 vs. win 8 issue and what "benefit" is missing from the new menu the more I think it's a bunch of pansies calling for Waambulance. The old win 7 menu is a cramped POS.
What is missing
Can someone explain to me what the old start menu did that the new one doesn't do? I want to run an app I hit the start button and type the first few letters and hit enter.
More FUD from the reg on a product not yet released....
Re: Aaaargh, why dont they listen?
"everyone else" that's the problem with hyperbole. I don't want it back. Not even in the slightest.
@Shagbag Re: beyond a joke
No wants this OS??
"making Windows Phone the fastest growing OS sequentially."
Re: So Fugly it's mother would feed it with a catapult
except for: http://blogs.wsj.com/tech-europe/2013/03/21/windows-phone-8-nominated-for-design-of-the-year/
and other design awards it has won.
You can keep you vanilla anti-Ms crap to yourself. Its quite boring.
because they are doing well through other channels... Samsun is doing a great job without having Samsung stores...
Re: Translation from BS to normal speech...
did anyone read how WP market share has doubled?
Re: oh good
What exactly makes it shit? I hear a lot of negative stuff about it, but what does it not do that is should do? What is the bar for mediocre and what is missing from the surface RT to hit that bar?
So far a lot of smoke but no fire.
Can you cite a source?
I haven't heard response times for iDevices quoted before. Do you have a link to a credible source?
Re: chalk one for the good guys
"if Microsofts OS were more resilient" how do you prevent uneducated users from installing malware? You can go the walled garden approach such as the surface RT but then people complain that it is not an open platform....
Re: Not so bad
Not to mention screen specs, wireless charging, NFC, camera, OS.
What I don't get is why in reviews it is never mentioned how it takes less time to do everyday tasks in WP than in android or iOS. Reviews are always just a feature set comparison. the Smoked by windows phone series seems to be a pretty good indication that the things you do most are easier on WP.
Re: Not so bad
I agree. the 920 has a lot of good stuff
Re: No, this phone is WP8
how is it obsolete? How did you measure obsolescence?
How is it a featureless wasteland?
What does it say it can do and does not?
So much bad info out there.
Re: A bargain
@Manu: How did the boycott go?
Re: You all keep forgetting.
what Dana said...
Also remember that your own individual experiences will always be anecdotal. Meaning you should stop extrapolating the needs of an entire country off of your single data point of an experience.
Re: Shine going off your business?
*cough* surface pro *cough*
