Apple adds LED-backlit displays to updated MacBook Pros

Scott Mckenzie

Hi Res

I'm almost tempted to change my 15" version purely for the 1920 x 1200 res.... for only an extra £60 it's a bargain by all accounts too!

I'm interested to see what difference the LED backlight makes, if any!?

"Today more than ever, Macs are PC's. The difference is almost entirely software. In fact if Apple choose to allow it, their operating system could run perfectly fine on commodity hardware. The only reason it can't is pure marketing. After all both Windows and Linux can run on the "Mac" (aka PC) hardware."

Hardly marketing why Apple wouldn't want to allow OS X to run on commodity hardware... the reason Apple have such a great following is the incredibly strict guidelines on software/hardware... programs are designed to run on a specific hardware set, so no new cheap Chinese import graphics cards that claims to be the bees knees can be used, but these could be bought and when plugged into your PC causes XP (or god forbid Vista) to have issues and refuse to work.

Apple are in control of their market as they make the whole package, Microsoft et al have to develop OS's to work with a nigh on infinite combination of hardware configurations, which is a pretty daunting task in my opinion

Trackpad and Keyboard

So, just because you don't like the trackpad and/or the keyboard it's wrong is it?

I much prefer the Mighty Mouse to any other as it's ergonomically far more comfortable for me to hold, the trackpad is fine, i don't see an issue with the size of it, as for one button why do you need two? I don't and i see very few people complaining about it, apart from some self confessed "qualified" expert.

As for the keyboard, both the USb and the built in one on my MBP are some of the nicest and most comfortable keyboards i've typed on...

But it's good to see that because you think they're wrong, they clearly are....

Why the PS3 might share the same fate as the PSP

Scott Mckenzie

Both the same age!

As pointed out above in reference to Mr Hale, the Wii and PS3 were launched in a similar time, admittedly in Japan... sure we're behind in the UK but that won't have stopped many developers, i'm sure there will be fewer crazy japanese games of interest over here, but the whole "PS3 is new" thing doesn't really cut it...

And out of interest what ground breaking graphics/sound features does the PS3 have?? Dolby 5.1 and DTS aren't even modern, i have a 5 year old AV amp that does those.... as for the graphics, again not exactly revolutionary!

Sure it's a good and impressive unit, but i wouldn't replace my Xbox 360 with one, whereas i'd happily add a Wii to my game portfolio! If i could find one :(
