5 Gigs not enough

Ha you should see our telecommunications in South Africa. With good old Telkom, on average the packages are between 2 and 3 gigs. Then after wards international traffic is down but local is uninterrupted. (at a fee of course)

OpenSolaris still has some Linux copying to do

Vaughan Trevor Jones

Hope so

I still signed up for a free Opensolaries live CD a few weeks ago. Well after playing with it for a while, I could not get my Audigy and Network drivers to work. No matter what I did.

Sun is going to have to do a hell of a lot if they want it to compete with already well established versions of linux.

Until then, I shall be using my Vista and Ubuntu

I'd take the gun

What happens when Ford meets the wild west? Personally I'd take the gun, that way you could just whip out your gun when you going to fill up. Easy way to get ones money worth.

Living in South Africa

Ok, now this coming from someone who lives in South Africa, yeah sure our broadband sucks, (I only get 2GB cap a month at 384kbps); however if those mallware scum (I mean makers) really want to cause us trouble. They will FIND A WAY TO DO IT!

Stick to topic

Gotta say who ever came up with that one, has some skill. Throw away the keys!

*Off topic rant*; why is it that most people can not stay on topics with these comments. I mean seriously don't the admins read this stuff. So then do not complain when an article does not have an IT angle, cause when it does your comments are off topic.

Welcome to the El Reg bumper demographic survey

Good old South African here

Personally I really love El Reg, and of cause the humor thats added to everything. My really only complaint is when people still to this day ask "where's the Paris Hilton angle"

I swear I will scream!

IBM to shove ads onto DVDs

Vaughan Trevor Jones

Yeah and I love anydvd

Personally I feel that a FEW non intrusive adertisments are acceptable. But when you are watching TV for an hour and the show is about 30minutes while rest is ads. That is going to far. Now on DVD's, give me a break, do you really want to pay for something and still get ads with it.

Hell no! If this happens, hello streaming internet and of cause hello anydvd!

Plastic police to enforce London bag ban?

In South Africa

Well in South Africa all that they did, was charge people for each and every plastic bag. Sure in the beginning people complained but many got used to it.. I presume less people are using plastic bags or just continue to use the same ones

OLPC offers one-for-two to generous North Americans

Vaughan Trevor Jones
Thumb Down

Wouldn't it be better?

So much for $100 laptop eh. Anyway if the company can afford to give one to the needy and one to the donor. Then wouldn't it make more sense to rather donate 2 laptops instead of one to needy children. Instead of giving one to the donor (who I doubt if they can afford to donate would really want a PC like the OLPC)

Fedora 8 looks impressive

To be honest I have never been fond of Fedora but I must admit Fedora 8 looks very promising. Now if only my damn surround sound would work on it. My personal favorite addition is pulse audio. Similar to what Windows has when you can adjust the volume for each application individually.

Quite right

@Dale I must agree with you. As you say lots of MS products at the start seem to be pretty crappy but after a few months/years they do seem to improve. I personally think Windows Vista is the perfect example of this. Anyway back to the subject any ideas on how many more centers MS is going to build?

Talking about the morals

Thats true that "Flowers for Algernon" is fiction. My feeling is (no not saying that its right, just a personal thing) if we ban people in sports for using steroids before a race. Then would it be unethical to pop a pill before writing a test, etc?

Pretty sad that the human race is not happy with the abilities our brains have to offer. If people are going to start messing around I suggest they read "Flowers For Algernon"
