Some people want their material "pirated"

http://scienceblogs.com/authority/2008/08/forprofit_scientific_publisher.php

If Charlie is REALLY honest about this, He should ban photocopiers ...full stop, and make it a crime to own pvr's, vhs cassette recorders, cameras ,create a government body funded by the holders of all IP , and conduct house to house searches for any "pirated" material , obtained illegally at car boot sales.... and THEN run for re-election.

I was reading in the business section of the telegraph about how the french "three strikes" model is the best , and the uk should adopt it.. Fuck off ... if the groups at the top url here want to, what's to stop them setting up an international packet radio darknet, with bbs dial in , if they get cut off.

@james

You're right, the licence fee has nothing to do with channel 4, BUT, (and it's a big weasel) , they DO produce TV programs, and if you can view UK tv programs on a PC , you MUST have a licence.

Even if you have no tv.

I'll repeat that

Even if you have no tv.

I'm glad there is an OS restriction on their content, and i'd prefer it on the bbc too, just so I could tell Capita et al to "bend it backwards and keep it in house" (f-u, in other words)

Michael
Linux

I'I'm reading this on a company computer

......running Ubuntu "heron". These people don't listen to their own news department then.(Credit Crunch etc)

My TV licence is also up for renewal this month , and there's a bit about viewing tv programs on a computer (I forget the exact text), so maybe this isn't a bad thing . The requirement for a tuner no longer applies.

So, if you run linux, can you kill off this bloated cash cow?
