For the Record...

A small bit of Boeing history, folks:

Microsoft rejects Yahoo! rejection

I can hardly wait...

So, rather than become yet another unwilling customer of MicroS**t, I have already switched my homepage from Yahoo! to MyWay.

Adium and iChat for IM clients...

And, of course, iWorks and iLife for essentially everything else.

It's sad, really, that the current (mis)Administration here on the west side of the Pond decided to let the illegal monopoly off the hook with little more than a slap on the wrist...as they had done several times before.

We can only hope that, like AT&T, MS will eventually *be* broken up...and allow real competition and innovation.

Black helicopter because I know they're gonna come get me someday...in fact, I dare 'em!

@ And it came to pass...

Please don't hate all of us; approximately 51% of us who exercised our Civic Duty in 2000 (that would be voting, BTW) elected Al Gore as our President.

Unfortunately for the entire world, the Supreme Court of the United States (aka SCotUS) illegally overruled The Will of the People of the United States and declared(!) Shrub the Idiot-in-Chief.

And the rest, as they say, is History.

Be patient; in about nine months, either Barack Obama or Hillary Clinton will be our President-Elect, and our Government will be taking steps to restore our Country's good name.

Personally, I'm leaning toward Barack...and it will be interesting to see who will be his running mate - we rarely hear that decision until after the Primary election period, once all the Party Convention Delegates are decided upon and the leading Candidate is declared the Party's nominee.

November can't get here soon enough...

Black Helicopter, 'cause I know the current (mis)Administration would prefer to declare themselves Rulers for Life, and people like me (free-thinking humans) stand in their way. Besides, my weapons are ready to take on those idiots in the event of an attempted coup.

DHS official moots Real ID rules for buying cold medicine

Ummm...

Let me see if I have this right:

1) I'm a resident of a non-REALID(iocy) state

2) I flew into a REALID(iocy) state a week ago and am now attempting to board a plane to return home

3) My new traveling companion (I did mention her, right?) is a resident of a different REALID(iocy) state than the one we're flying out of

4) How the he!! are the watchdogs going to determine which of us needs to provide a REALID(iocy) card?

Geeze...anyone in Canada want to adopt a 52-year-old US citizen who's getting sick and tired of the REALIDIOCY his country is displaying?

Honestly, if I could afford to do so, I believe I *would* leave the "Land of the Free" and never look back.

Black helicopter 'cause I once held a TS* Security Clearance and worked on a couple of Black Projects; they're probably still watching me...

* No, I'm _not_ joking...I worked at Texas Instruments, in the Defense Group, during the mid-80s and early '90s. We built missiles and guidance systems.

Bush overrules judge in US navy-v-dolphins sonar case

Easier than you think...

Shrub doesn't have to force judges to step down...

All he has to do is fire them; federal judges are appointed by the prez and can be fired for any reason -- or no reason, witness the furor last year.

Last time I heard "Hole Flow"...

...had to be around '74, when the USAF was teaching me everything I didn't yet know about electronics.

Darned Heathkit never mentioned holes, but they clearly indicated current flow was opposite to electron flow; my, how much I learned back then :D and had forgotten since!

Im still a bit put off by a void (hole) being the carrier of current...my brain has successfully wrapped itself around the concept, but it still reeks of error!

My $0.02 worth (of savings?)

FWIW...

The new law is phased in due to the massive number of bulbs which will be replaced during the phase-in. If every American were required, by Law (capitalization intended) overnight, the country would be in the dark (aside from the current [mis]Administration's obvious such location) for several months.

While I don't necessarily agree with the details of the phase-in (why not phase all wattages simultaneously?) I do agree with the basic policy.

It's almost a given that Dubya signed the bill as a form of political expediency, when in reality it's our Congress who wrote, modified, amended, and finally passed the Bill(s) (one from the House of Representatives and/or one from the Senate) for our President-Select to sign. Had he not, those Republicans trying to salvage their political careers would have one more item to overcome; as a Progressive voter, I can hardly wait for Novembers elections...we should see a HUGE loss of Congressional seats by the right-wing-ultra-conservative-religious-fanatics...ummm....I mean Republicans.

Now...where'd I park my flower-decaled VW Beetle? Ah...there it is; next to the tree I hugged when I arrived...

And one more comes to mind...

General George Washington.

Upon Britain's surrender, he was offered kingship; he refused, allegedly stating (and I have to paraphrase, due to severe CRS) "You would replace one King George with another?"

@Matthew:

"Why use robot warplanes? What's the point? As I see it their only function is a re-usable weapons platform."

Exactly...what's got you confused here?

"Why not develop better missiles? If you can exceed range (no return journey), cheaper, cheaper/stealthier ships (no need for a runway). A 'single use' missile (jet or rocket powered) can replicate all the functionality in a robot plane, you can carry and support more in the air."

With no return journey, you cannot properly perform the duties of patrol and rendezvous; identify the target visually to ensure you're not blasting some civilian aircraft out of the skies.

And a single-use missile, if launched, must end its flight somewhere; bottom of the ocean, lost in the desert, through the roof of your house...

And that's before we begin discussing the ramifications of monetary expenditures on said "single-use" missiles...
