Netflix rules out Kiwi launch

Peter Lowden

So its official...

Internet in New Zealand officially sucks.

I can't help but get grumpy each time I travel outside of NZ and see the posters for unlimited ADSL2+ for $59.99, where my ISP would only give me 5GB for that much :(

Malls suspend plan to track shoppers' cellphones

Facial recognition?

Can’t they use facial recognition and the mall security cameras to achieve the same end? Not sure how you would opt out though.

Great.

There goes all opportunity to purchase consumer electronics based on this material unless its Apple. I guess my SanDisk Titanium USB key is now an endangered species.

Alert

PVA?

From memory PVA is not water resistant.

What are the chances of condensation or clouds becoming an issue at lower altitudes? The plane will probably be quite cold too so might attract condensation.

MS launches 'unlimited potential' campaign

Peter Lowden

5 Billion is a not unlimited...

...but it is a lot, perhaps it should be 'Limited but lots of potential', then again they could market MS products to Aliens, then I would be happy with 'Unlimited'.

I am not sure that any self respecting ET would load Vista on their UFO though, it would be Roswell all over again!

Sinclair ZX Spectrum: 25 today

Man I feel old...

10 FOR A=1 TO 25

20 PRINT "Happy Birthday Speccy! ";

30 NEXT A

I can't believe I remember how to do that, 25 years ago, really? And to think I had a ZX81 before that!

What started as a humble 48K Spectrum ended with a full real qwerty keyboard, Interface 1 and 2 plus some Romantic Robot thingy that let you image games and slow down the machine, a ZX Printer and two microdrives. Still have most of it two, the speccy doesn't go anymore, neither does the ZX81 <cry>.

Funny thing like many here it started me down the dark path of professional IT...

Dell offers XP again amidst Vista complaints

Re: Run command on vista

"You want to run command line on vista? Click start, type it into the "quick search" bar thingy at the very bottom. Enjoy"

A little research and patience would have shown that the Start Menu properties allow you to add the run command back, it really bugged me too but it didn't take long to find an answer, however it is really worse than just a hard to find run command...

I buillt up a brand new machine especially for Vista, well above required spec (Core2 Duo 2GB RAM etc), I got given Vista Ultimate at a partner event I attended, so nice clean install away we go...

Well I am running XP now. Why? Drivers, stability application support and performance. Contacting the suppliers of the hardware devices and applications that don't work was responded with "we are working on it, check back in 2-3 months". It had been years since I had seen a real blue screen, now I have made up for it.

Since being back on XP everything is back to normal, everything works, no blue screens and XP on a brand new machine really rocks!

I would never pay for Vista, heck I don't even use it when I was given it!

Cruise missile streaks across Google Earth

Peter Lowden

Load up GoogleEarth and get your ruler out...

...it measures around 100ft in length (33 meters), that is one hell of a cruise missile!

A quick look up on aircraft specs though has the MD90 measuring in at 150ft in length though, a cruise missile is only 15-20ft.

Oh by the way I measure the black wingspan at 70ft.

Its a plane.
