World goes mad as Bill and Jerry eat churros

Nordrick Framelhammer

Is that it?

With all the millions that Macro$lut has to throw around (once they replace the chairs that were inevitably broken by Blamer when he heard about Google's browser) this is all they could come up with?

It is complete crap. The head of the agency should be forced to use Vista on a Pentium 166 with 256Mb memory and no swapfile.

Firstly, where is exactly is the scam? Did he break the crApp Stores rules? Did he lie in order to seperate the buck from the schmucks? If not then there was no scam

As for those that disable the prompts that are the last thing keeping them and their money together, as far as I am concerned by clicking on a button labelled in Buy they fully intended to purchase the item they clicked on that Buy button for, therefore they have no comeback.

In this case it is very much carpe diem.

US court sides with Janet Jackson's breast

Nordrick Framelhammer

Lets face it...

The Sepos are a bunch of hypocrites. How many of them attend church then go out and rent/buy/download porn, buy all manner of marital aids and lingerie. And yet they will even fuzz out the top end of a butt crack or even people in their underwear while at the same time showing people blowing up. It is pathetic.

And as for Janet Jackson, it was justa publicity stunt. She used her saggingb milksack to try to revive her sagging crapsack of a career. Didn't help much though.

Dell hits all the wrong keys – again

Nordrick Framelhammer

Won't touch Dell with a 10 ft barge pole

I won't touch Dell with a 10 foot barge pole. They are overpriced, you can never be sure if the product is going to be faulty or not as more than one time Dell have been caught selling kit knowing it was faulty, and their customer service is so crap that they closed a part of their customer forum so that they did not have to have to see the flood of complaints about their lack of service.

A friend of mine was looking at a ew gaming PC loking at a Dell with a bundled low end video card and a 40Gb HD. We were able to spec up a PC using far better components for 1/2 the Dell price using retails stores!

My employer went through a computer hardware and support reappraisal not so long ago. Dell were the bottom of the heap.

Nordrick Framelhammer

@Chris and @capacity jump

Firstly one of the reasons why a drive like this would be popular for cheap storage for enterprises vault systems. As it is not a front end system then performance does not matter.

And to all the skeptics about the 50 years, the figure is correct. IBM released their first hard drive, the 305 RAMAC, in 1956.

Firefox 3 downloads hit 7m despite server FAIL

Nordrick Framelhammer

Hmmmm

Seems like the Operas fanbois and fangrls have got their knickers in a collective knot.

If Opera was all that great then it would be sitting on a market share much greater than 0.5 to 2.5% (depending on the stats sites).

I have tried various iterations of Opera since way back when it was first on the scene when you had to pay for continued use after the free trial. I went back to Netscape.

Now I use Firefox and have been using it since 1.0. Looks like I will keep doing so with 3.0.

Firefox 3 Download Day falls flat on face

Nordrick Framelhammer
Thumb Up

2 million and counting

After about 5 hours there are over 2 million copies downloaded. This evening I will be downloading a copy for each of the computers I have direct control over.

Having read another story about this elsewhere there was a peak of 14,000 simultaneous downloads happening with a resultant trafficv flow of 13 Gigabits per second. So I think that Mozilla can be forgiven for having a few stuttering steps when world + dog comes knocking at their door.

It will be interesting to see the download figure after the weekend is over.

Phoenix Mars website invaded by hackers

Nordrick Framelhammer

@AC crApple fanboi

Running a browser that, without asking my permission, downloads files or blindly allows well known iframes hacks and who's designers can't be bothered to actually fix the problem ain't going to hunt.

But then again, what else do you expect from a company whose product sells pretty much because it is nothing more than eye candy. Why buy Mac when you can get more for less with a PC and Linux?

And if this browser is so good, why did crApple feel the need to forcibly and fraudulently install it on the computers in a failed attempot to boost it's pathetic 1 to 2% market share. Somewhat ironic since crApple are claiming a 7%+ market share, which means that the vast majority of crApple users are installing Firefox rather than using Safari on it's native platform. Speaks volumes.

Opera? Why install bloatware? I want a web browser to browse the web, not do email, etc. Bollox to apoplication convergence. They are always a compromise.

@brad

Come on. We are talking script kiddies here. They have no real hacking ability. All they can do is leech of someone elses work then claim the "glory". But, as we all know, they are nothing more than spotty faced, socially challeneged, unlikely to get laid nothings who can only get their jollies by waving their tiny, flaccid e-peens around as though they actually have a skill, instead of using some crap "toolkit" that they downloaded using mummy and daddies credit card and probably ending up with their and their families computers being rootkitted into the bargain.

Typical Macro$lut...

in their innovation by aquisition stratergy. They are only after Yahoo because their own search engine is such a pile of crap that no-one bothers with it.

But this time they ran up against a brick wall in that process. And so what they are now doing is getting some of their pet shareholders to buy Yahoo shares then bitch and moan about it in court, hoping that Yahoo will fold. It would be interesting to see how many of these shareholders were shareholders before, or even during, Macro$lut started their assimilation process.

Go Yahoo. Get lost Macro$lut.

South Africa launches formal objection at OOXML

Paris Hilton

I cannot help wondering...

what it is about todays criminals in that they seem to have this insane predilection for publicly circle jerking about their illegal exploits as though they cannot get caught.

Is this an inbred genetic trait that seems to be working it's way through the mainly chavish petty criminal classes?

A suitable punishment would be to make them do knitting while being force to listen ot a looped version of Jame Blunt's "Your Beautiful" for a week straight.

On second thoughts the last part of that would not be allowed under the UN's Convention on Human Rights, which applies to everyone but his record company, it seems.

With the death of Sir Arthur we have lost the last of the writers I, and I suspect many other, consider to be the foundations stones of the modern Science Fiction era.

I found Sir Arthurs stories were easy to read and yet challenging, forcing us to look at our role in the cosmos, especialy in The Rama Cycle. he appealed to a wide range of ages.

Nordrick Framelhammer
Alien

Is the cold harsh light of reality finally being seen in Redmondland?

As soon as I saw these reports my first though was that someone at Macro$loth was finally listening to what the real customers want rather than the few select rich sharholder types.

Then I realised that thought was a result of the concussion I suffered last week.

But as far I can tell this annoucement will stop any more momentum that Fista might have gained from SP1 faster than a microphone and camera will stop a politician.

The only reason I keep a windows box around is for my game, which, up until recently, was only officially supported on Windows 2k (bugs)/Xploitable/Fista. However, now that there is an offically supported Linux and there has been a decent time to sort out any bugs I will be installing Linux (either Ubuntu or that very nice Ubuntu variant called Mint) and testing it out on that. Then the only reason to keep Windows around now is for Supreme Commander.

it may have been the best. But as anyone with half a clue knows that the BBC Model B outshown the C6t4 in so many ways, such as the 16 paged roms it could access, the Econet network ability including file server and network printing, the Tube with it's ability to run things such as co-processors which took over the task from the built in 6502 CPU, even allowing 16 bit PC compaitbility, as well as video disc access, Teletext, a mouse and graphics package, the ability with language roms to program in other languages such as LISP and C, the first BASIC language with the ability to set up propr proceduring rather than subroutines.

But let us not forget the BBC's biggest ever contribution of all to computing. Without that machins abilities there would never have been one of the greatest games of all, namely Elite.

Pirate

@Bryce

Of course, once you get out of the level 1 mission grinding in the noobie corp you started with and join a corp with 0.0 access for a bit of PVP (player vs player for the non game players out there) then I think you woud find the game is anything but boring. Or you can do a bit of piracy, rememberng of course that a frigate is not going to be able to tank the gate guns.

The adrenaline buzz as you manage to pop your opponents ship just before your own ship is about to go down is briliant. Gate camping, chasing down the enemy who was foolish enough to wander into your territory. Corp ratting or mining ops with 20 or 30 or more other people around the world, havng a good chat on TS or Ventrillo during lulls in the action.

Going into enemy territory and spying on them or getting in some guerilla action is all good.

EMI's Hands squeezes trade bodies

Mars

Of course...

The fact that CD sales are falling because of the fact that people are sick of paying the extoertionate prices demanded by the record companies just to line the pockets of useless, unporoductive, greedy executives and "talent" agents who couldn't spot someone with talent if that person hit the agent square in the face with a shovel doesn't have anything to do with it, nor does the fact that most of the stuff being foisted on the music buying public is nothing more than intellect free, talent free, taste free excremnent from the bowels of elephants with hemeroids.

Let's also not forget that the greedy pricks in the music industry always quote a figure in US dollars. As the US doller is about as boyant as a brick of course the "value" of music sales is going to be down. but, as is the wont with corrupt figures, the industry organisations use these misleading numbers in their campaign instead of developing a decent delivery method that would benefit the "artist" they claim to represent. Irefuse to lend them any credence until such time as they say it has resulted in the reduction of sales by XXX CD's.

Second Life will dwarf the web in ten years

Nordrick Framelhammer

Of course they would say that

Second Lifes website claims a total membership of just over 8.5 million people. However int her last 60 days only 1.6 million have bothered to log in, with just under 40,000 logged in at this moment in time. That is a pretty poor return rate.

From what I have seen they will have to be some major changes made before it is anything like ready enough to overtake the Web.

And of course they would make those claims. One bloke is the CEO of the company running second life so if it fails he will be out in the street on his ass, and both IBM and Sun would support him so that they can keep supplying him with nicve new shiny boxen filled with shiny tech goodies.
