Scanner snares senior servant

Darryl

OOOOooooo

I hope you didn't Google that on your work PC!!

Motorola Defy Android smartphone

Darryl

Wellllll

I don't know. I think I'd prefer to test the display model at the local store for scratchproofiness instead of the one that I just bought.

But that's just me

Toshiba intros laptop that CHANGES COLOUR

Boring!

I saw the title and thought Cool! A Mood Laptop! But it's just got the cheesy 'optical illusion' stuff that's been around for decades.

Yawn

Finnish regulator calls for iPhone refunds

Darryl

Bah, you kids and your cold... When I was your age...

We've just gone through a week of -25 days and -33 nights, and I saw lots of people using their iPhones, Androids, Blackberries, and dumb phones outside. My old BB Curve worked fine outside.

I think this is just a get-out-of-warranty-free clause for Apple in case they don't feel like fixing/replacing the phone, and I applaud the Finnish gov't for challenging it.

Malawi poised to outlaw farting

Darryl

Best one I ever heard was

If you hold in your farts, they'll escape into other parts of your system and eventually travel up to your brain.

And that's where shitty ideas come from.

iTunes gifting scam plunges Reg reader into the red

Darryl

So, wait

You're saying your brother got scammed on Apple's system and when he tried to report it to them, they basically laughed and hung up the phone.... and he's still dealing with them?

Damn, Steve's good

Kodak fails to stifle iPhone and BlackBerry imports

Darryl

Kodak moves into the new millennium

Kodak missed the boat badly when they decided that this digital photography/video crap was all just a passing fad.

The only way that they could even begin to make up ground on the competition was to buy companies like Chinon, Creo, and others and rebrand their products.

Now it looks like they're right up on the cutting edge where innovation means not really innovating, just watching to see if you can sue anyone for patent infringement.

Matrix 4 and 5 in works, threatens Keanu

Darryl

So they could FIX the second two

Just do the second two over again, but set them in another time period with one of the other 'ones' and then redo the two sequels with things like, you know, a script and acting and other things that weren't in the original sequels. Oh, and as well as removing the sex scene (or at least replacing it with a plausible one) also remove the long drawn out totally unnecessary "dance orgy" thing.

Oh, and do it 3D if you must, but PLEASE give us the option of going and seeing it in 2D if we prefer, or I'll have to wait for it to come out on DVD like I'm doing with the Green Hornet.

Darryl

OR

The Matrix has performed an illegal operation and must be terminated. Do you want to report this problem to Microsoft?

The cost of beating Apple's shrewd screws? £2

Yeah,

Not, complaining, I agree with what you said. Good job!

Exactly, Sarah

None of these new 'parodies' even come close to the Police Squads or Airplanes of the past. Even - can't remember, the parody of Top Gun with Charlie Sheen was pretty good.

Sony sues PlayStation 3 'hackers'

Darryl

Detect it, or "detect it"?

"Sony have already said they can block this. It's also been acknowledged that Sony can also detect it"

Can they actually detect it, or is this just more FUD like the cable TV companies used in the '80's to (attempt to) scare people away from plugging in more than one TV?

Apple 4 Verizon. True

Darryl

Mobile hotspot

I love the ads that Verizon has run on this feature on Androids in the past - showing some hip person sitting on a bench surfing the web on her phone and a bunch of other (presumably strangers) nearby also using her connection on their various laptops, etc.

I'd hate to see the data usage on her next bill.

Standard smartphone charger to dominate in two years

Darryl

LG's on the case

My last LG dumbphone had micro USB, but if you plugged in a charger that didn't have LG stamped on the front, you'd get this big dire warning from the phone that you were using an 'unauthorized' charger and that you should only use LG brand accessories. And yes, they were the same power output - my wife and I both used her Samsung charger at home.

Wonder if this happens on LG's Androids...

The Mac that saved Apple (and Steve Jobs)

Darryl

Exactly

Toshiba/iMate/LaCie et all loved the new "we don't need floppy drive" Macs. I'm sure they made a small fortune selling USB floppy drives for overinflated prices to all of those users (like my company) who found they still needed floppies for years afterwards. Anybody remember the Quark license floppy that shipped with the CD?

MS security tool interferes with Chrome and Adobe updates

Darryl
FAIL

Adobe's updaters

My favourite one these days is the Flash updater that pesters non-admin users to update, and when they agree, partially uninstalls the current version, then fails because it needs admin rights, leaving the user with no flash capability at all.

Anti-piracy lawyers 'knowingly targeted the innocent', says law body

MS freebie anti-virus scanner auto-downloads provoke more anger

Darryl

Actually

Running multiple AV scanners (with real-time scanning), no matter what AV scanners they are can cause serious slowdowns on file access, copy, etc. as they are both competing to access the same files using the same hooks. Try disabling your other security software and copying and then disabling MSSE and copying. I predict things will speed up considerably in both situations.
