Return to Castle Wolfenstein

Loved This

This was the first game I played seriously online, I spent many hours (too many) blasting the other team with Panzerfausts from the top of the cable car level. I loved the Game of The Year expansion pack as well, that was great for online play, I think I spent most of my time on the BlueYonder game servers.

WTF?

Saving Money

Surely the best way to save money would be to not splurge any on having a new logo and just leave the old one in place.

Wot - no mention?

Saw your piece on the BBC, nice work, shame they didn't mention El Reg or manage to fit in any PARIS jokes, but never mind, we in the know saw the vulture logo and felt proud.

People have no bloody idea about saving energy

Do they mean combined washer/dryers?

Surely turning down the washing machines temperature settings won't make the clothes any less wet. Line drying is blatantly far more energy conservative than using a tumble dryer since, last time I checked, my washing line is not plumbed into the gas or the leccy.

Unofficial Windows 7 SP1 beta stumbles onto interwebs

All part of the plan...

/dons conspiracy theory tin foil hat

It wouldn't surprise me, given the number of comments i've seen in relation to corporate rollouts of Windows 7 not happening until SP1 has been released, that this is all part of the Microsoft plan to encourage uptake of W7, SP1 will no doubt be minor but it reassures decision makers that the time has come to take the plunge.

O2 Maths fail

They reckon sending and receiving 40 emails equates to about 1gb usage, christ on a bike, how big are the emails they think you'll be sending.

I hope there is a zero or two missing from that estimate.

Why you subsidize Google's Soviet-style Net

Don't agree

This article is making some tenuous leaps imo, I think the point of the current architecture is that it's cheaper to run a cable from point A to point B than it is to build data provisioning and caching at point A and point B.

Also consumers have a choice of paying lower prices for limited bandwidth per month or a higher price for unlimited bandwidth, it's the consumers choice to use/abuse this bandwidth so to see it as a subsidy for any particular content provider is disingenuous.

I'm happy to pay a premium for a service provider that will get the content I want to me quickly and without limitations, others may not be and so shouldn't expect to be able to stream HD content from the such as the BBC or Youtube at peak times without issues.

Only Sky can save digital TV

El Blog

Quote: "Ofcom and the BBC Trust are also really interested in rapidly pushing through plans for FreeSat, the DSat equivalent of Freeview on DTT. I've always been extremely baffled by this, especially when Sky offers an equivalent service which is fairly priced"

Obviously the PSB's don't want to give Murdoch more share of the market if they can help it, by controlling freesat they get the delivery mechanism as well as controlling the content. All the better for adding services to, controlling their bandwidth and experimenting with HD content without Murdoch scuppering the PSB plans at every turn because he controls the delivery mechanism.

Licence fee? Compared to what id pay with Sky or Virgin it represents rather good value and TBH Terry Wogan makes it all worthwhile. Have I just given away my age o.O

Disappointing article el reg, leave the sky fan boys on digital spy please.
