More pointedly to this phrase
"Or did your correspondence decide, as seems much more likely, to just begin talking directly out of his arse?"
Or more so this word
"his"
Methinks Kelly is a she boss. Though I will agree with you on that one. I think this fine young lady might be getting kickbacks under the table to talk up OpenOffice :P
OO is crap in a business environment when its dominated by office. Great any other time though.
Or should I say The First Cowardly Cultist of Jobs?
See the thing here is yes there are a lot of bugs, but the problem your failing to recognize is that Apple is always about it just works (except when it doesn’t or was this the almighty disc cleanup feature?) , therefore his comment was not out of line. Anytime there is an article about an OS (and I will say I'm no saint here) there is always fanboism to no end in the comments. Personally I try to bash all of them equally.
What makes this bug even worse is the fact its not easily reproduced, and its a rather bad one to have floating around in the open. How long till haXors figure out how to reproduce it and have some fun with the Apple crowd? Not everyone backs up and although Macs are in a lot of ways superior to Windows I cant recall the last time I logged into an account on Windows and had all my data deleted on me. And how many people who own Macs got them just because they heard how good they were and don’t know the first thing about using a computer short of surfing pr0n, checking email and playing games on Pogo?
Think about that anyway back to the regularly scheduled flames and I reiterate what I said in an earlier post.
Need more Disc space? There’s an app for that!!
Fools. . .
"If you're offloading data like that, essentially that would mean you would have to have a second data center with the same infrastructure somewhere else," he says. "And while each one can be energy efficient, you now need two of them. So the net is actually energy inefficient. You need a lot more infrastructure."
Will say this is actually a good argument for the efficiency crowd. Not to mention the cost of multiple data centers. Also the question being raised about the links being cut. What happens then? Does Google mysteriously load shed to the cloud? Oh wait. . .FAIL
Great concepts on both ends but in all honesty I think M$ is actually onto something here
Brutus:
As for our larcenous nature I present you evidence item 1) Your cell phone I nicked off you at the gas station. Oops I just put it in the bin :)
As for you adiegoguy:
Why do I detect a load of BS in your statement? Dont get me wrong, locking the item in the bin just makes sense. As for the fair market value who decides that you or the company? Fair market value can be anything you want it to be. As for the biometrics you have a mule do it for you. Boom done, and not everyone has a drivers license. Nor does it have to be legit.
"True, but it's still a damn sight better than AVG and MSE."
WTH are you smoking??
McAfee (and Norton to be fair) are about the WORST AV packages now a days. Neither of them could catch an elephant and a marching band coming into the system, let alone a virus that has been around for years. Been there, seen it happen on a daily basis. The only reasons people even use McAfee or Norton today and it either came preinstalled (60 day trial woohoo) or because they remember the good old days when they were the shit. And dont even get me started on the slowdowns and crashing caused by them.
I got out of working on cars and ditched all my tools but you sir certainly sound like one.
Still working help desk (for home users) and I remember 2 things that really stand out:
1) Customer was being a complete cockbite and screaming, yelling cursing me out that it was all my fault that his machine wouldnt work because he decided to surf to porn site and get himself the computer aids) so in the middle of me saying something to him i hung up on myself. I wasnt about to call him back so after 10 mintues he called back himself and started appologizing to me and said his cell must have dropped the call :)
2) This lady shouldnt have owned a computer. Going to skip the majority and get right to the good part.
Me: Press and hold the power button until the machine turns off.
Her: Press and hold it?
Me: Yes, press and hold it until the BSOD you have goes away.
Her: But that will turn the machine off!
Me: Yes I know that. That is what we want to do.
Her: But it will turn the machine off!!!
(repeat those last couple lines a few times me getting more and more frustrated each time)
Me: MA'AM YOU NEED TO PRESS AND HOLD THE DAMN BUTTON BECAUSE YOUR MACHINE ISNT RESPONDING I KNOW THAT IT WILL TURN OFF WE WANT THIS TO HAPPEN. IT IS A GOOD THING!!!!
Her: Oh ok......I held the button and the machine turned off.....
Me: ..........Thank god.........
Yep I want out of the job.....people at work wonder why I hit their nuckles with a ball peen hammer when they do a Killroy over the cubicle wall.....
"Microsoft’s Windows core OS division boss M3 Sweatt blogged about the “Signature Edition” on Friday and provided a few pictures too.
"The goodies are actually very nice, especially the Windows 7 tote bags, perfect for the Cayman Islands for the beach!
For the beach? Seriously? What a twat, the only people going to the beach at the Cayman Islands are the execs over there as they laugh all the way totheir off shore bank.
Also included were Windows 7 branded napkins,
So you can blow your nose on Win7
a puzzle pack; the pieces come together to form a wallpaper image from Windows 7,” he said.
Are the puzzle pieces made out of the install disc?
“There was also a pack of Windows 7 playing cards,
Imagine play poker with the boys friday night and pulling these out...youll be the talk of the town.
a colour poster and of course the piece de resistance, a FULL copy of Windows 7 Ultimate Edition (Steve Ballmer Signature Edition). What I was not expecting though was the Anytime Upgrade to Ultimate Signature 64 bit edition. A nice bonus!""
Really?? A FULL!!! copy? Was that some sort of bonus as opposed to half a copy? Maybe they are shelling out so we get the whole install disc as opposed to half of it? What a twat.
"That deal sees $150,000 handed over, to be divided between Gawronski (whose counsel's share will go to charity) and another defendant."
So this idiot gets a wad of cash (as for his lawyers share going to charity im guessing its the charity for the lawyers retirement fund) for being a moron? I seem to recall that Amazon offered another copy of the book after all this started to those who were affected so why couldnt he just take that and tell it to use his notes there? I seem to remember hearing you can do something like that with the device. And I cannot see how the page numbers would be that far off, if at all, of the first copy.
"Rather than being left to replace a 32 bit OS with 64 at the time of upgrade, (which requires additional cost for new windows licence,) it is much better to have the right software to begin with."
Heh in some ways this is why I hate OEM installs. If people just bought the software outright from a store, for example, you get both 32 and 64 bit in the package for Vista and it will be the same for Win7. Screw OEMs and only giving 32 *OR* 64 bit options.
Been using Newegg since pretty much day one and have to say Ive been happy with their service ever since. Never had a bad experience with them and they are always quick to RMA something if its in their warranty and hell even something that isnt if its only a week or so over sometimes. Hope they keep growing
JESUS CHRIST what the hell did they use to airbrush that visage? A damn trowel? Holy hell seriously I think airbrushing *IN MODERATION* is fine but FFS not to THAT extent.
On a side I like Kiera's jubs just the way they are.
To quote Leary, "Little plum sized boobs? LOVE EM"
You moron!
I have to agree with the AC above me on this one. If I sat there and posted CC data from the business I work at online I would DAMN well expect to catch more then a little heat from that. On the other hand if I post how me and my girl had the freakiest sexy in the kitchen the other night and it involved a bottle of vodka, a candle, furry handcuffs and a gimp mask, then should I expect my employer will punish me over something DONE ON MY OWN TIME!!??
Anytime and employer has the ability to say what you can and cant do, short of NDAs and confidential information and such, your running the risk of said employer making a change to their 'guidelines' so that you cant be in the NRA, or a Democrat, or gay, or using a computer at home unless we allow it and still work at that job. Think about that would ya?
OH, BTW is "Colonel" not "colnel". . .moron
Sorry but your not my type :P
I know I'm going to catch heat for this probably but since when is Google a phone company?
Personally I think ATT is trying to make a case for itself in the public eye about this whole thing over Google Voice. Hell even my parents (about as technology competent as a flea, and even then I think I saw the flea on farcebook) believe that ATT had a hand in Apples rejection of the app. Besides isnt ATT one of the main players AGAINST netneut?
"I'd just like to thank the EC for a full copy of Win 7 for £45 "
I thank MS for giving me a full copy of Win7 for $30 because Im a student :)
As for you KTguju "Are you all that completely dim?"
Wow, just wow. I don't really know where to start with this one. Your whole arguement went out the window you know when you started ranting and insulting everyone who posts here, right? Seriously if you want to get your point across maybe think about cutting out the insults and stating what you want in a PROFESSIONAL manner instead of what you did?
Now to focus on what you said. If you look back and think about it who is the one who always bitches about the browser on MS OS's? Opera? Maybe?
Who bitches about Safari on OSX? Certainly not them.
What about *nix and whatever flavor of browser is on the particular distro you are using? Nope not them either.
What Opera does in relation to MS is downright idiotic. They continously make themselves look like whiney little kids crying for candy or a toy in a store just because they want want want. Your reference to Russia is funny. Are we in Russia? I think alot of posters here are from other places then Russia (In Soviet Russia the browser screws you!!). I look at the broswer take based on where *I* am and what *I* like, not what they like in Russia, or China. You sir fail for that one. Now go cry to Opera about this post being directed towards your innane babbling and get them to whine some more. Have a nice day.
"The officer added: "We were very impressed with the workmanship so we congratulated him and then we confiscated the machine."
That is classic.
Plod 1 Thats an awesome idea but we have to 'confiscate' it.
Later that night at the impound lot:
Plod 2: WOOOOOOHooooooooo damn this thing is fun.
Plod 1: Need another beer?
" Other now-widespread technologies have been conceived at One Infinite Loop then gone on to become industry standards. Think FireWire"
When I think about Firewire I don't get a whole lot. Problem with that statement is this, Firewire was a good idea yes. It was faster then USB but trouble was Apple kept it internal for far too long and when they finally released it it was too late because USB had already taken over the majority of the market. Not to mention even Apple are not putting Firewire on their latest laptops. Lets face it, Firewire is dead and more so now that USB3 is out. Certain cameras have it yet and some (YES SOME) external drives. When I went looking for one with it at the local store (needed it right now) I couldn't find one to save my life.
I will agree with Gordon Ross though to some extent. It was supposed to have replaced all that BUT trouble is I couldnt see USB powering HDMI monitor or even VGA. Can't see it being able to sustain the required bandwidth for those. As for the RS232 and PS/2 ports I havent seen RS232 on a board in years and PS/2 is still nice to have atleast one of those available incase you find USB wont work for some reason in BIOS or Setups. Seen it on Dells usually I end up swearing alot because some of their machines dont have a PS/2 and it was needed to install the OS. Go figure.
Firewire is dead let it rest in peace.
I use FF, IE 8, Safari (sparingly...never if I can) and Chrome.
I like both FF and IE (not to sure how I would like Ribbon on FF though). Firefox at work because its stable (most of the time and a hell of alot faster then IE) but I use IE at home because I realy dont give a shit about browsers at home. It does the job and I can see the porn...er...websites I want to :)
As for IE being insecure I agree but at the same time in over 2.5 years with no AV or Firewall (PC sits in DMZ) of any type I have yet to get a virus. Weeeeeee
How he sits on his high horse and says that M$ did this to install fear, doubt and uncertainty in the community. Personally I think they did it because they got top dollar and could have cared less about the OIN because they would probably cry about the price being too much. "We would have offered top dollar" my ass.
