Judge strikes down Apple attempt to bar Samsung's 'untrue' patent comments

James O'Brien

Since when...

Did Samsung have Siri on their phones? Reason I ask is because of this part from the article "deploys the Siri virtual assistant,". Don't see anyway Samsung could be in violations as they refuse to let Siri on their phones and be seen as giving up against Apple.

What I dont get

Is how can it be that Apple would play the game this way. I mean they can make a whole lot more money if they implant a tracking chip in all the sheep^H^H^H^H^, I mean customers? They could charge a-lot more for the preliminary scan of people thetans, sell them informative literature about the process and why it will help with your thetan level, then claim that they are noticing blind spots in coverage (bathroom, your BDSM dungeon etc) for you they will then come out with "iMplant 2" (rinse and repeat this until your nose bleeds).

Seriously though I hope they do come out with this because I cant wait to see the "iMplant 5C" just so I can see someone running around in hot pink. Anyone who would allow this deserves whatever they get.

Always reminded

Of a time I was bored at work and started reading the ToS for some program or another, been to long and I cant remember what it was now. About 5 or so pages into the ToS there was something along the lines of:

Your actually reading this? You didn't just click accept like everyone else? Ok good, just please don't pirate the program if you like it, we spent time making it and ask that you support us if you like the program other wise its free to do with what you wish

Then it went back to the normal legalese. Wish I could remember where I saw that now but its been a long time.

Pretty sure that companies would have less pissed consumers if they followed this tactic but then how would the Lawyers get paid?

Gotta love this

I really am starting to find this trademark business to be total BS and believe it should be abolished. The only ones getting anything out of this are the lawyers, seeing as the trademarks are being enforced on an "who can we screw" basis.

Think about it, Apple rounded corners, King with Candy and Saga and I could go on but pretty much everyone who reads this knows what I mean.

Its absolutely mad that they trademarked Saga and are going after the devs of Banner Saga which in no way is related to Candy Crap Saga.

Sadly Trevor

While the NSA *cough** claims to be listening to *cough** 30 "US Persons", in all likely hood there is a good chance you might be on that list. Can't recall but if memory serves you might have, at one time, in the distant past, mentions crApple in a post and that would automatically flag you as a person of interest. Seriously, you *MIGHT* have (choose one) said/thought/heard someone else say/been within a mile of someone whos used a Fleshlight on an iDevice, something negative about them. And we all know that anyone who might have done any of those things, by having certain views about an American company, that could be considered a threat to the USA.

Dont worry though, they only check the metadata so its all fine. *cough**

Wikipedians say no to Jimmy's 'buggy' WYSIWYG editor

James O'Brien
Paris Hilton

Ahhh Wikipedia

So several months back I was watching something about Aloha Airlines Flight 243 and wanted to read a little more about it so I decided to risk Wiki as I didn't feel like looking at hastily scrabbled together pages on the net about it and wasn't all that concerned about the full details just certain things. Anyway the page I was looking at was missing correct capitalization, punctuation, spelling and common sense. It was so bad I really wish I had kept a copy of it somewhere for laughs, anyway I wasn't about to edit it but this page was so bad that I actually registered for an account so that I could mention it on the talk page about the article that someone REALLY needed to look it over. A day later I was banned for edit warring.

All I could say in my defense for the appeal on the ban (it irked me to be banned for something which I never did) was that which I just said about here on why I registered, that I had never edited anything and that if they wanted to ban me for doing that they could all kiss my ass (yes those words). Surprisingly I got an apology the next day and the ban lifted not that I really give that much of a shit but its the principle of the matter. My belief is fuck'em. Let them bitch and moan maybe in the end it will help with the inaccuracies.

In answer to your question

No its not for the lawyers. I recall hearing years ago that the reason for so many appeals when it comes to the death penalty is to allow those condemned that sliver of hope that in the case they truly are innocent to be freed.

Could be wrong but that came to mind as soon as I saw your question

On a side note I'm all for death penalties so long as they is irrefutable proof of guilt.

How to survive a UEFI BOOT-OF-DEATH on Samsung laptops

James O'Brien
Paris Hilton

Re: Oh common Steve

How can you hate a BIOS which will allow you to surf youtube and farcebook without booting windows? Well mainly farcebook. Or how about how pretty they look and the ability to change the boot picture to whatever you want? Actually changed it on a friends laptop to a rather interesting picture of two guys.....the giggles the whole group of us gave him everytime he booted it up made me cry with laughter. Finally gave him a hint on how to fix it. Ahh i miss hanging out with those guys but sadly with two slipped disks in my back now I cant work, stand, sit, lay down or sleep very well anymore. God I hate having this issue at 31....

Re: Is there no way to reset the firmware?

From what I have been reading on this it sounds more like they have the replace the board because the CMOS gets boinked. Yes I know its UEFI but it does seem that theres either a flaw in the coding for this or something Samsung introduced. My guess its a mix of both due to Samsung is always finding new things to do all the time to stay bleeding edge. I may have missed it but I cant wait to see what the ultimate fallout from this is.

Could be wrong on my guess but something tells me Im probably on the right track

Microsoft says Google trying to undermine Windows Phone

James O'Brien

Same functionality as Droid and Apple?

From my experience with the Youtube app on both Android and iOS they are both crap. Load slow as hell, don't show the same videos (don't get it since some videos are marked as not available if I try to view them on my phone while the same video is available on the browser or my PC), tends to decide to play a video in what appears to be 240 resolution for no reason when I have a great WiFi connection and so on. From the sounds of it Google is just making app comparable in quality to the current ones available to the competitors.

sadly

This kind of thing is precisely why the Apple app store kinda works. Having something reviewed before it is released makes a certain kind of sense. While Apple may miss things once in a while for the most part it seems to work.

More than likely this will be happening more and more as the community can pick games to "greenlight" which the majority of them are probably early betas atleast if not an alpha. While I applaude valve for doing this its ripe to have this happen again.

.......god I just defended Apple. I'm going to go drown myself in booze and tears because of this.

Down voted and survey says:

While you may have initially started out with a valid point you, yourself, went above and beyond on the rantings about the voting here. While it may be that you make some valid points about the voting system here these points can also be looked at as this: Why make down voting (or any voting on ElReg) require a post about why the vote was posted? This basically negated the AC icon here and opens up a world of shit on those who may agree or disagree with a certain point. I'm not having it. Once you went on the attack to bitch and whine about being down voted you came across as a 12 year old having a temper tantrum. Your continued responses to this fact just serve to make you look like even more of a child.

Who gives a shit about the ups and downs a persons particular account has? About the only thing I cared about recently was that 1000 post milestone that has taken me 5 sad years to accumulate. If you want to bitch about your totals heres something you can shoot for.

"In total, your posts have been upvoted 847 times and downvoted 345 times."

Read from it what you will but I see from that, that at least most of the crap I spew resonants with the local commentards and that most tend to like what I have to say. I would rather not be Barry Shitpeas where everyone hates me but loves reading the next pile of trash I spew out.

Just my 2 cents.
