Re: the rich are consolidating their power
Did Webster Phreaky switch from Apple hating to just plain hating now?
Re: I need to re-think my charging!
Sorry but I wouldnt pay you anything if you were going to put Picasa, iTunes, Libre Office, Google Earth or Skype on my machine...If you were to do that I would charge you instead for the hassle I was about to receive.....
Re: The pot calling the kettle black
Yes you are correct on El Reg doing this, I was one of those affected. But it did not happen to ALL reg users, just about 10k or so IIRC. Atleast El Reg was upfront and did turn themselves in.
Of a time I was bored at work and started reading the ToS for some program or another, been to long and I cant remember what it was now. About 5 or so pages into the ToS there was something along the lines of:
Your actually reading this? You didn't just click accept like everyone else? Ok good, just please don't pirate the program if you like it, we spent time making it and ask that you support us if you like the program other wise its free to do with what you wish
Then it went back to the normal legalese. Wish I could remember where I saw that now but its been a long time.
Pretty sure that companies would have less pissed consumers if they followed this tactic but then how would the Lawyers get paid?
Re: "SHIELD, Supply Chain Hardware Integrity for Electronic Devices"
Hmm....fair point. I probably shouldn't make posts when I'm half asleep :)
"SHIELD, Supply Chain Hardware Integrity for Electronic Devices"
Are we sure that it doesn't mean "Spying on Citizens Home, Internet and EveryDay life"?
A better question though is, how do we know that this wont be used to spy on....well everyone, who has a device with one of these embedded in it? I'm not normally one to cry wolf here but I can't help but wonder the implications of this if it were to be implemented.

Re: Mark 85
Yes, yes you should. I enjoy reading amfm comments but whenever I don't have to read it 3-4 times to get an inkling of what he is saying scares me. Either A hes making more sense or B I'm starting to lose whats left of my mind....Probably B
Re: Yeah right Mark
I could care less if Mark is right or wrong, but I do wonder one thing,
"Apple has also started describing their latest-generation mobile CPUs as desktop-class."
Cause help but wonder how big the phone will be with the attached heatsink :)
Steve Jobs to appear...along with Science Fiction writers
Interesting, didn't know his autobiographers were so important......
Re: Why Do You Bother?
Apparently you are new here and don't know how things work. ElReg has been on crApple's shit list for so long that I don't even remember the reason why.
As for any other qualms you might have with how Apple is represented by ElReg, stick around, they tend to bash everyone and everything equally given the time. And the majority of it is pretty damn funny.
Re: Anyone else....
Actually I'm pretty sure, while they may also be prime strike targets, those are to show how successful the NK missile program has been in placing things on target....oh wait.
Gotta love this
I really am starting to find this trademark business to be total BS and believe it should be abolished. The only ones getting anything out of this are the lawyers, seeing as the trademarks are being enforced on an "who can we screw" basis.
Think about it, Apple rounded corners, King with Candy and Saga and I could go on but pretty much everyone who reads this knows what I mean.
Its absolutely mad that they trademarked Saga and are going after the devs of Banner Saga which in no way is related to Candy Crap Saga.
Bah I need a beer.
using something a little more "modern"
I see what you did there :P
Re: Hmm, Lompoc
I have to ask Tim, how did you manage to spend a MONTH there in one WEEK? If was chemically induced time spent there I want some of what you have :P and if it wasn't that I want the DeLorean you have stashed in the garage with the flux capacitor in it.
Re: Holy christ....
Depends on the paper Gene. Was it something that painted MS in an attractive light?
While the NSA *cough** claims to be listening to *cough** 30 "US Persons", in all likely hood there is a good chance you might be on that list. Can't recall but if memory serves you might have, at one time, in the distant past, mentions crApple in a post and that would automatically flag you as a person of interest. Seriously, you *MIGHT* have (choose one) said/thought/heard someone else say/been within a mile of someone whos used a Fleshlight on an iDevice, something negative about them. And we all know that anyone who might have done any of those things, by having certain views about an American company, that could be considered a threat to the USA.
Dont worry though, they only check the metadata so its all fine. *cough**
*is it dry in here or just me?
I would have to agree with you on the drugged Java. I personally drink tea now a days but waking up with a sore bum after drinking that Java would suuuuuuuuck.
Re: With support for so many GPS systems, this chip would be great for...
While you are correct on those restrictions, whats to stop them from making a cruise missile which is a surface skimmer with a top speed of 550Mph (~245 Meters/sec)?
Re: Some sale, NOT!
Wait how is it that the email about the event made it to your in box at all? Should have been marked as spam and ignored regardless of what they were offering as, from my personal experience, is total propaganda anyway. The only people who read their shit are cultists anyway.
Clap on clap off
*now with and ability to turn your network on and off.
Re: Hunting trolls? You're doing it wrong!
"You want to get rid of trolls, FIX THE FRIGGIN' SYSTEM!"
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA.....Have you SEEN the state of the US patent system? Let alone the state of the US patent laws? The day shit like this gets fixed is the day I look in the sky for flying swine and/or take the temperature of the ground to see how cold it is. Sadly it'll never happen.
So several months back I was watching something about Aloha Airlines Flight 243 and wanted to read a little more about it so I decided to risk Wiki as I didn't feel like looking at hastily scrabbled together pages on the net about it and wasn't all that concerned about the full details just certain things. Anyway the page I was looking at was missing correct capitalization, punctuation, spelling and common sense. It was so bad I really wish I had kept a copy of it somewhere for laughs, anyway I wasn't about to edit it but this page was so bad that I actually registered for an account so that I could mention it on the talk page about the article that someone REALLY needed to look it over. A day later I was banned for edit warring.
All I could say in my defense for the appeal on the ban (it irked me to be banned for something which I never did) was that which I just said about here on why I registered, that I had never edited anything and that if they wanted to ban me for doing that they could all kiss my ass (yes those words). Surprisingly I got an apology the next day and the ban lifted not that I really give that much of a shit but its the principle of the matter. My belief is fuck'em. Let them bitch and moan maybe in the end it will help with the inaccuracies.
Re: Zynga - which says it owns the '...With Friends' brand
How about we both go as friends and you pay? Oh wait isn't that what Zynga is basically asking people to do? I honestly cant see how they have much of a leg to stand on (trademark aside because this sort of reminds me of the Apple I**** BS) unless they have or are working on an app the bang on.
In answer to your question
No its not for the lawyers. I recall hearing years ago that the reason for so many appeals when it comes to the death penalty is to allow those condemned that sliver of hope that in the case they truly are innocent to be freed.
Could be wrong but that came to mind as soon as I saw your question
On a side note I'm all for death penalties so long as they is irrefutable proof of guilt.
Re: Oh common Steve
How can you hate a BIOS which will allow you to surf youtube and farcebook without booting windows? Well mainly farcebook. Or how about how pretty they look and the ability to change the boot picture to whatever you want? Actually changed it on a friends laptop to a rather interesting picture of two guys.....the giggles the whole group of us gave him everytime he booted it up made me cry with laughter. Finally gave him a hint on how to fix it. Ahh i miss hanging out with those guys but sadly with two slipped disks in my back now I cant work, stand, sit, lay down or sleep very well anymore. God I hate having this issue at 31....
Re: Myself to El Reg
Seriously guys why is it that we cannot edit our posts unless we are gold. How the bloody hell could it be abused or whatever?
Re: Is there no way to reset the firmware?
From what I have been reading on this it sounds more like they have the replace the board because the CMOS gets boinked. Yes I know its UEFI but it does seem that theres either a flaw in the coding for this or something Samsung introduced. My guess its a mix of both due to Samsung is always finding new things to do all the time to stay bleeding edge. I may have missed it but I cant wait to see what the ultimate fallout from this is.
Could be wrong on my guess but something tells me Im probably on the right track
Same functionality as Droid and Apple?
From my experience with the Youtube app on both Android and iOS they are both crap. Load slow as hell, don't show the same videos (don't get it since some videos are marked as not available if I try to view them on my phone while the same video is available on the browser or my PC), tends to decide to play a video in what appears to be 240 resolution for no reason when I have a great WiFi connection and so on. From the sounds of it Google is just making app comparable in quality to the current ones available to the competitors.
Re: malware-ridden quagmire
After a recent marathon of watching Family Guy the only thing that came to mind off that title was Quagmire standing at a toilet talking about it burning when he takes a leak....
I did read it and found it utterly hilarious that M$ saw this game and it didn't raise any red flags. This tells me that they didn't practice due diligence and send this back so that it could be properly documented.
Still find it funny as hell.
"nobody at Microsoft ever understood how the code worked (much less still understood it), and that most of the code was completely uncommented"
So atleast new we know why M$ is the way it is. Does anyone, even Billy boy, know how the code works in Windows? And apparently they go with the popular concept comments in the source are for newbs. Why not just code Windows in the mindfuck language?
Anyway....AAAHHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA Oh god I can't stop laughing at this one. HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
This kind of thing is precisely why the Apple app store kinda works. Having something reviewed before it is released makes a certain kind of sense. While Apple may miss things once in a while for the most part it seems to work.
More than likely this will be happening more and more as the community can pick games to "greenlight" which the majority of them are probably early betas atleast if not an alpha. While I applaude valve for doing this its ripe to have this happen again.
.......god I just defended Apple. I'm going to go drown myself in booze and tears because of this.
Re: Faecebook Next? @dssf 17:25
And yet you continue to bitch and moan about something which has worked very well for several years now. This is the last time Im feeding this troll but it does piss me off when someone is so thick headed to continue to act this way.
Re: Faecebook Next? @dssf
Down voted and survey says:
While you may have initially started out with a valid point you, yourself, went above and beyond on the rantings about the voting here. While it may be that you make some valid points about the voting system here these points can also be looked at as this: Why make down voting (or any voting on ElReg) require a post about why the vote was posted? This basically negated the AC icon here and opens up a world of shit on those who may agree or disagree with a certain point. I'm not having it. Once you went on the attack to bitch and whine about being down voted you came across as a 12 year old having a temper tantrum. Your continued responses to this fact just serve to make you look like even more of a child.
Who gives a shit about the ups and downs a persons particular account has? About the only thing I cared about recently was that 1000 post milestone that has taken me 5 sad years to accumulate. If you want to bitch about your totals heres something you can shoot for.
"In total, your posts have been upvoted 847 times and downvoted 345 times."
Read from it what you will but I see from that, that at least most of the crap I spew resonants with the local commentards and that most tend to like what I have to say. I would rather not be Barry Shitpeas where everyone hates me but loves reading the next pile of trash I spew out.
Just my 2 cents.
How the hell do you mistake an iron, which weighs a slight bit more than a mobile, as well....a mobile? Wouldn't the weight have been enough of a give away let alone touching his face with it? Human reaction to something such as that is generally very very quick.
One word answer?
Re: Airliner brought down by Angry Bird-strike!
Don't understand why someone down voted this. I had a good chuckle reading it. Humorless plods :P
No I'm pretty sure I spelled what I intended correctly with "snickering*"
* snickering present participle of snick·er (Verb)
1) Give a smothered or half-suppressed laugh; snigger.
2) (of a horse) Whinny.
In this case I was using the first definition of it. As much as I like you Brits I haven't fully adopted your language over here in the States.
AC icon abuse + Assuming = down vote
Re: Window$ $ecurity
Have to agree with you on this Zaphod. Either that or I'm getting old and my level of humor is going down.....GET OFF THE LAWN
Re: This is why I like 2-step auth.
Im of the mindset on users that we need 2-step auth. Something along the lines of a password and a DNA sample would suffice. And no not that kind of DNA sample *quit snickering in the back*, something like a pint of their blood or something each time they log on would be good. And it has the added bonus of eliminating possible holes in the network after approximately 5-6 logins.
What can I say I hate the end user.
Re: Epic Fail. @Ole Juul
Re: Sheen off the Apple?
Hey don't diss Sheen. Anyone with the ability to smoke as much rock as he has and not die is WINNING
Don't understand why
If the government wants to have the apps screened more thoroughly then why don't they foot the bill or the apps in their own market. While I understand the logistics of this are daunting at the least (storage and bandwidth to start) and even though this would actually be good to get the apps which are ridiculous would be a good one.
He will be missed
It is with heavy heart I write this. I will be hoisting a pint in honor of our fallen compatriot later this evening.
*On a side note we don't have a backup pilot for LOHAN?
Re: Just goes to show
That someone from the recording industry was trolling these forums? I like how just about every post on here extolling to the level of bullshit that this was to be brought against a child let alone the family has a down vote. Makes you wonder don't it?
Gotta love it
Only bullies take pleasure in going after those smaller than they are. While they were at it why not take her lollipop as well? Can't help but think that the dad was told something along these lines, "well even if she didn't succeed in downloading these songs she's still a pirate in training. By doing this we are showing her early that it pays to support our way of life."
Never has there been a better group to be called twats.....twats
Oh I don't know about having anything that he consumed. I was laughing at him as I finished his post.....oh wait.
Its ok Lars
Just wait until Apple patent the DeLorean, the Flux capacitor and time travel. They have taken note of your comment and are currently hard at "work" in the "R&D" department so they can rectify this issue.
How do you send a correction on something this bad?
"He's also said the technique has the Macronix intends to commercialise the technology,"
Umm....What? Granted I'm tired right now but I cant even begin to unravel this.
