Very true, I paid £149 for my Asus EEE 1215 a few months ago. Very pleased with it too.

The new touchy-feely Doctor Who trend: Worrying
I remember
Reading contemporary interviews about the perceived rivalry between star trek and dr who, the phrase that stuck in my mind was something along the lines of "they had the budget but by god we had the talented script writers". That's all gone now of course. There are no proper 4 parters, and the whole thing is being "Holbyised" (the process of spinning out another show from a drama like Casualty into a relationship based pseudo soap opera like Holby). Matt Smith is the first bearable Dr since Peter Davidson (although Peri did make some of the Colin Bakers bearable).

Ten... high-end Android tablets
Flex
I've had a play with a few of the tested tablets on the high street and the one thing that astonished me about most of them (HTC Flyer and Asus Transformer aside) was the lack of rigidity in them, especially compared to an iPad. Hand on each side, there's a good deal of twist in most of them, which on a £300+ product doesn't inspire confidence at all.

My bad, since the article doesn't show on the same page as the comment box, and I didn't fancy multiple windows, I decided to go from memory.
The point still stands though, Honeycomb has been a complete balls up in terms of an OS, very little tablet specific support, so no clear price incentive (£20? Wow) isn't going to drive customers away from the iPad.

Spotify 'sold soul' to boy king Zuckerberg
I understood Sony BMG Music, Universal Music, Warner Music, EMI and Merlin between them own around 18% of the share capital in spotify? Unless it's changed since the early issue back in 2008.
IMHO that alters things as little as Spotify should be seen more as a platform rather than an application in it's own right. It exists to stop punters paying their money to Apple or pirating, probably in that order :)

Apple snubs Samsung's Oz patent peace offering
Running scared
After the comical launch of the 4S yesterday, which is basically a fix version of the iPhone 4, fixing all the faults and bringing it up to spec with where other smartphones were a few months ago, Apple must be redoubling their efforts to stop better products reaching the market.
I laughed when I saw some apologists saying that £99/$99 for an iPhone 4 on a two year contract was a great deal now the 4S has been announced, tempting the 3GS owners (like me) to upgrade on the cheap. Why would I want an iPhone 4 though? It will be almost 3 iterations out of date by the time a 2 year contract runs out.

Acer insists fondleslab 'fever' is fading
No fever
The media and manufacturers have confused iPad fever with fondleslab fever. Look at the failures- the Xoom failed to sell, the Touchpad failed to sell, the Playbook failed to sell, the Transformer, whilst being innovative and all, has failed to sell in significant numbers. The general public don't want tablets, they want iPads

Signed up and had a play around after reading this. Lordy it's slow. They reckon 100,000 sign ups a day atm but the only way to find people is through search, the What's Happening tab is disabled (so you can't see what everyone is pinging) due to server load issues.
Feels very slow and lonely atm :)

NHS rant
I think it was the NHS rant she did the other week, where she complained bitterly that the local NHS doctors surgery wouldn't let her queue jump for Hep A and Hep B jabs the day before her trip to Somalia that bought the insane old harridan to the attention of those of us normal enough to never venture to the Daily Mail's website.
Good work though. I'm sure a lot of other celebs would see the joke and match the donations, so how about it Liz?

Sony to launch PlayStation 4 in 2012, say moles
Unlikely
Unless it's a new version of the PS3 with motion control, I doubt that Sony could actually afford to develop and release a new console at the moment. They've taken a massive hammering financially recently and it's always been the perceived wisdom that the way for MS to beat them at the console game would be to accelerate the life cycle.
Aussie retailer accuses UK shops of HDMI 'scam'
Monster!
It's always made me laugh. A digital signal is either received or not received, as I'm all too aware when it's pissing down on our exposed sat dish. paying £100+ for a HDMI cable is the modern equivalent of being gulled by a snake oil seller.
The only downside of cheapo cables are their propensity to fall to bits, which puts them in the not receiving category imho.
'Dirty' Hari defends radical interview mashup technique
difficult
Any journo who has every transcribed an audio interview will know what made perfect sense whilst being heard, can actually look completely incomprehensible in written form. Obviously some editing goes on to remove the self interruptions, tangents, stutters, nonsensical sentence construction etc but it looks very much like Hari went a lot further than this.

Nintendo: no DVD, BD playback for Wii U
sorry to rock the boat but
my TV has 3 HDMI sockets. Currently my boxee box, xbox 360 and BD player take them all up. If I want to plug my HD camcorder in, I have to unplug one.
HDMI splitters are expensive and a lot of them don't autoswitch, meaning you have to fiddle with yet another tiny remote. Put more functionality into one box, and save me a HDMI slot dammit Nintendo!
