A little too late...........

In HP out and proud with 8-socket server beast

Thumb Up

As a complete HP customer, including x86, x86-64, Itanium and of course the wonderful Alpha we had a chat with HP about the future after Alpha's death. We were promised AdvFS migration to HP-UX and large Opteron boxes.

Both were not carried out, telling us if we wanted more than 4 CPU's, by Itanic - not bloody likely. Also they should have ported HP-UX to x86-64.

We are now a Sun operation due to a) Solaris 10 and b) the X4600 server with 8 sockets for Opterons.

HP failed to realise the market trends (as did Gartner etc) pushing Itanium as the future, killing off AdvFS as well (thanks Carly) meant we had to migrate over 100TB of data, so we chose the best platform - Solaris 10 with ZFS (something finally catching up with AdvFS) and now use a mix of Sparc and X86-64.

HP really need to learn the lesson of customer focus and keeping them happy. Our contract change has cost them a considerable amount of lost revenue, we can't be the only ones that have done something similar. If I was on the board of HP I'd be worried about my tenure
