"Police forces will be charged to use the PND, which allows police forces to share information about suspects"

'Sarge, we need a bit more about Mr X so we can bang him up for good. Can you do an enquiry on the PND?'

'Sorry lads, budget is out for the year - come back after christmas to see if there's any money left hanging around'

      Always been that way

Police forces as well as other government agencies have always paid "per transaction" on the soon to be replaced Police National Computer. Keeping the same payment system seems logical for the PND

Where do you think you're going PC plod.

I just got to nip to the corner shop to get a top-up, the PND pre-pay meter has run out of credit.

    Eh?

So police forces don't share information like when Huntley killed those two girls.

And the magic answer to charge police forces to use a system to share information?

Someone needs to look at this again, if police forces never shared information when it was free, what the hell is the incentive to share information when you have to pay for it?

How long before the "local PNC" becomes a shared document on google? because it's free?

    Cuts branded as inaccurate?

So, if their quick, they might be able to get back the data they put out on the rubbish pile?

    PND

PND = Portable Navigation Device, so it is all running on a TomTom (and probably as reliable - mine didn't reboot, as it's want, on its own today :) )

    What they really meant was...

No cuts in the number of people in the DNA database.
