back to article Amazon Kindles cash from Wikileaks

Amazon's UK tentacle is selling a Kindle version of the Wikileaks documents for £7.37. Although the documents are freely available, it seems an odd move from Amazon which kicked Wikileaks off its hosting service. Even odder Amazon's US Kindle store is not stocking the collection of documents. The book is published by Heinz …

    Amazon is next

Operation Payback's hivemind has listed Amazon as the next target.

      Couldd go either way

They could get pissed off since Amazon's selling the docs, or they may give Amazon a pass for dumping wikileaks from their hosting service by making the information available.

A fool and his money are soon parted

Since the majority of the mouth-breathing newspaper readers out there think the site's being taken down means no more Wikileaked documents, Amazon step in to sell it to them for a nice tidy sum. Nice one Amazon. Seriously.

    hmm

"Although the documents are freely available, it seems an odd move from Amazon which kicked Wikileaks off its hosting service."

Which (out of hosting or selling) would happen to make the most money?

    Stop

Not wishing to spoil the fun..

...but the book does not contain the wikileaks documents - merely an 'analysis' of the documents - see the link in the article for yourself. in short it appears to be a cheap cash-in by the author, of the 'PS3 (Box Only) type that beleguers ebay.

    Vanity publishing

Amazon is in the vanity publishing business so anybody and their uncle can slap together some piece of crap and throw it up for sale. Amazon probably price their books by the page hence the price.

My guess is Mr Heinz Duthel whose past works appear to all be of the cut and pasted variety is one such vanity publisher. IMO he should have his arse kicked off the system not for printing up wikileaks but for being a leech who is simply plagiarising material in the public domain to line his pockets.

Awaiting approval in the App Store

What about a Wikileaks App for your iFruit or Android device? Will the Jobsian gatekeepers approve?

Is Amazon run by a Liberal Democrat?

That sort of hypocrisy would make Nick Clegg proud.

Not actually the docs themselves, but "commentary and analysis"

The footnote in Nigel15's URL says "Please note: This book contains commentary and analysis regarding recent WikiLeaks disclosures, not the original material disclosed via the WikiLeaks website"

Ahhh the hypocracy of corporate whoring....

To stab Wikileaks in the back and to drink the blood as it runs out....

Good One - to the people who run Amazon.

Nothing like being a pack of 2 faced arseholes....

    If

If Anonymous Coward is correct, and they are capable of bringing down Amazon, then Amazon would truly suffer some serious money lost with the Christmas season here.

    Retards

The reviews are fantastic, about the same level of drama as giving firearms to toddlers.

Particularly as half of them can’t read so didn’t spot the “DOES NOT CONTAIN TEXT OF CABLES” which is all over the place and the fact this is a self-published digital work not something the Amazon buyers went out to get.

I do hope Amazon honors all the requests to delete accounts too.

So Amazon is publishg material that even the US govt will allow all its employees

to read and el Reg thinks this is a story?

Somebody needs to go read Pruden's rules for news reporting: Getting the story First is job 1, but not at the expense of fucking up a simple fact check.
