Make Money, Not War: ancient Chinese fortune cookie saying

This is typical pragmatic Chinese thinking. Let others fight the wars and HTC will continue making money.

    Hard to argue with success.

"so that the number of inventions generated soars"

In other news, free energy generated out of empty beer bottles, gold found in toilet etc.

Why do I have to read such crap from pretend intellectuals (are there any other) in the morning? And the day was beginning so well, with all the servers up.

Itellectual vultures is a good name

and a polite one for Myhrvold's outfit. They don't make anything, just generate outlines of ideas, patent them and then squeeze those who actually make goods into paying their protection money. It is much easier to come up with an idea than to actually make it work -- another of the world's parasites.

    Uh huh?

"What we’re really trying to do is create a capital market for inventions"

If I ever hear of a company looking through those 30,000 patents to get a new idea about something it could make, I might just believe this.

In the meantime, it seems infinitely more likely that the company will develop their new product on their own only to find that the USPTO in its infinite wisdom has assigned ownership of some of the ideas it involves to this gang of vultures who wait until it is too costly to change the design and then demand exorbitant sums of money.

      Re: Uh huh?

Yes, Intellectual Vultures wants everyone to think that they're a bunch of innovators with a catalogue of inventions you can pick from, when in fact they're the equivalent of a bunch of customs officers with a list of things that they demand you pay duty on, should you ever show up on their radar with something on their little wish-list, that is.

    Not only that...

Intellectual Ventures prey upon failing start-ups and desperate professionals that as a last resort try to recuperate some of their investments by selling off their IP. Not only does IV feed on their misery, but they also put the newly-acquired IP to use in creating more misery for companies that aren't in such dire straits. Intellectual Vultures indeed.
