I'm not worried
I'm sure Steve will come to my rescue and block access to this intolerable filth that's Apple Royalty free from coming up on my iBlock 4.
The puritanical Steve Jobs has won an unlikely ally in his campaign to kill Flash: the very porn industries he's blocked from the iPad and iPhone. Digital Playground, one of the porn industry's biggest players in the US, has said it'll dump Flash and deliver online video using HTML5 as soon as desktop browsers provide "full" …
You gotta be kiddin me, a lot of people are actually browsing the web for a lot of pr0n these days? No way.
I'm just kind of surprised they'd have someone who could form a complete sentence, running their web ops. I mean, they're working to advertise boobies and suchforth - how easy is that to stay focused about?
Anonymous, in case anyone really *would* try to implement the thought police model - as some, perhaps, have tried, and shall try again, ultimately (no doubt) to the creation of even *more* farcical stories to be told.
So will the porno industry choose to go patent encumbered or follow Google to an open source codec?
It could prove t he deciding factor.
After all it was the porno crowd that choose VHS over Betamax and settled the tape wars, well once they'd finally given up their early dreams of video disks.
I don't think the p0rn industry are supporting St Jobs. They are coming from different points of view.
P0rn industry (and my view)
Flash is inefficient and as soon as something better comes along we will move to it as soon as possible. But until then we support using flash as there is not a good alternative.
Apple
We have decided we don't like flash, whether for technical reasons or because we have an alternative we want to push (but have not released yet). So we pretend it does not exist (fingers in ears singing la la la). And decide that that you users do not need to use it even though the majority of video content on line uses it. So until an alternative comes along we like (or we release something) you are screwed.
This difference has skewed this whole Apple vs Flash discussion. Is flash the best way of doing video or on-line? No. In the same way Windows may not be the best OS. Should we be looking to get alternatives on the market? Yes. But flash is here now and like Windows, until there is a more used alternative you need to support it. The P0rn industry knows this and supports it.
Apple, well Apple are the artists of the computer industry and as such sometimes they may cut their own ears off....
