A chap from the German space agency DLR has captured a fetching snap of the International Space Station transiting the Sun, appropriately last Sunday afternoon: The ISS shown transiting the Sun. Pic: Thilo Kranz/DLR Snapper Thilo Kranz explains: "I took this image of the ISS as it passed across the solar disk in just 0.51 …

Funny, your link just sent me back to this page!

This is a picture taken by a French guy in Madrid, showing Atlantis approaching the station:

    group of sunspots?

C'mon, that _must_ be the shadow of the ISS!

    there was a better pic

in the mirror (yes it shocked me too). that pic shows the shuttle leaving the station. I presume the same bloke took the pic cos it looks almost identical.

      Same bloke

I saw that too (it was the shuttle approaching, not leaving tho). However, the Mirror redeemed itself with this classic explanation of the photo:

"Legault, 48, travelled from France to Madrid to get the image which was taken in daylight"

Just in case you thought he'd taken a picture of the Sun at night!

    Black smudge

What's that black mark just high of the Sun's centre? Is that another craft just out of focus range? Is the ISS under attack?

Looks like the lizard cloaking device isn't working too well

      Clue is in the article

"Close to the centre of the Sun, a group of sunspots is visible."

    I don't know

200c in the sun and -270c in the shade, doesn't seem that appealing to me....Now Paris :-)

    That's not the ISS

I've looked at the image and I don't think it's the ISS.

I wondered if it was a black helicopter.

But, no, I've decided ... it's Santa, Rudolf et al off on their summer holiday.
