Hopefully
Lets hope its a shoot-em-up game.
How do you engage Britain's apathetic, apolitical, antipolitical teenagers in the political process? Simples. You hook them up to a computer game that will "engage and immerse young people in learning about democracy and the role of Parliament in scrutinising the government, representing the public and making laws". Can't …
Similar to Second Life but your goal is to evolve from the typical pond scum that works in Westminster by bribing, cheating, lying and sleeping with rent boys while all the time claiming for your second account as if you spend all your time there, aiming to eventually recieve a knighthood and become a member of the house of lords, which gives access to bigger bonuses and a pretty coat.
I'd love to play that.
Seriously, though - "learning about democracy and the role of Parliament in scrutinising the government, representing the public and making laws" is the sort of thing that the current shower have been in sore need of. The next crowd post-Thursday should be made to take a test to confirm that they understand the importance of their role. If they can then start acting like they believe it then maybe the youth of today would be encouraged to take them seriously.
I won't be holding my breath, though.
The only play this game can be good would be if the objective was to carry out what Guy Fawkes failed to do.
Or a defender of the crown style game where you have to take over Britain county at a time...
Other than that I imagine it be just a waste of time and most likely (our) cash...
FPP MP sim - you control your MP - only just like in the real world they do whatever the hell they want and ignore you...
Failing that how about a simple house of commons wack-a-mole? Yes it teaches you how the house of commons works - the MPs try to avoid the issue at hand, be that a direct question or a big stick...
Great idea, like the average kid doesn't already know full well that being decietful, dishonest, and a social failure are the easiest way to get what you want in life, now we're going to show them how to do these things in a way which will glorify them with virtual power on top, or is this so MP's can try things out in a virtual world before they commit hairbrain schemes to law?
Christ, can you imagine the law writing parts of the game, what are they going to run with? i'd love to see the code they put together for the election's balloting systems. Oooh final point, will they make accurate citizen rendering possible by *ahem* allowing access to the excessive data they have mined from social websites and other means?
