    Outsources anit-spam/security teams and suddenly large numbers of customers are getting accounts hacked - indian droids just tell them to reset their passwords - customers very unhappy.

    I had an AOL account once.

    But just the three months free subscription while I found a decent ISP. The "user experience" was dire.

    Serves them right

    They were the 'internet for dummies' ISP of the 90s. Then they started charging craploads for their service, which was the worst of the "extra value networks" (Compuserve, Prodigy and such). It only survived as much because most of the rural US didn't have broadband... as soon as broadband came, AOL users left in droves.

    Oh, and don't forget their 'free trials', where you would be unable to cancel and your credit card would get charged on day 31.

    Customer "support"

    Had a AOL "Customer" once tell me their internet down,

    As able to prove (with Know good router) that their AOL router was faulty (mine worked on their line!!)

    Was they / I able to get new router out of AOL? Alas no!

    The phone was ace though! worked for hours!
