back to article German geeks invade Australia

Germany's top techie research house the Fraunhofer institute has turned its remorseless gaze onto Australia for one of its first joint research projects outside of Europe and the US. The institute, which has been a resource for German industry for over 50 years but is probably most famous for inventing the MP3 format, will …

    Why would any techie

want to go to a country that sees China as a role model for Internet governance?

      talking of gaze

I wonder how they will cope with Australia's very own Forlorn Gaze - http://www.forlorngaze.com/

Right now it's a nest of political corruption and vice, much like it was in the late 1700's.

Mind you, at the moment, an anschluss would be a good thing.

    Yeah right...

Move to a country that's only marginally more free than China and rapidly heading towards Burma status on the freedom front. Sign me up straight away.

40% of the world's traffic management systems?

It's a pity they don't use them here in Aus. Our local traffic lights fail every time it rains (no drought jokes, please. I live in a very wet bit of Aus that has a lot of rain for half the year)

    1. Mark 65

      Exactly

From living here you wouldn't even think they used traffic management systems. Still, it could be like everything else produced in Australia - it get's exported and the locals get f*cked.

    Still room for Brits...

which Australia would that be then?

Obviously you lot in Europe believe the spin of Krudd's minions, a follower of NuLabour (spelt NuLabor here in Oz.) bullshit. Don't bother applying for a visa 'cos there really aren't enough IT jobs here. Cockheads such as Qaintarse, Telstra, the big banks have ensured that the local industry is fucked by sending IT jobs to Mujibah land.

However, if you can drive a 250 tonne haulpack or a front end loader, or do welding or pipework then there's shit loads of jobs in the North West of Western Australia on the mine sites or on the mega oil & gas projects.

    Simple fix

"At the same time, it was looking at how it could upgrade the skills of its existing workforce."

Oh, gee, how about government officials who aren't technological Luddites? Which IT geek wants to move to a country where the government keeps on trying to make the technologically adept the "bad guys" of the latest "war on X" (substitute X with Terrorism, Child Pornography, or whatever you feel will get you re-elected next year)

    (yes, I am Australian)

    Don't come here

German geeks: your country in the 1930s had more freedom than we do here in Australia. Go to China instead. The only stuff they filter there is sites about the Tiananmen Square massacre and Falun Gong. Australia intends to filter everything that isn't suitable for Disney.

    What bloody IT jobs?!

What do they mean "skill shortage"?! As a Linux specialist here in Oz, I'm finding it extremely hard to find any sort of decent job here!

I've just come back from Scotland where they actually KNOW what IT is and *use* stuff like Linux!

And yes, someone who's NOT a luddite in the govt would make a nice change!

    Ha

Why would you want to work with IT when you can be out west driving one of the biggest mining trucks in the world for double the money?
