Network warfare
Is it me, or does this sound like it could be really interesting?
The US 24th Air Force - the first dedicated American military cyber force to go operational - is "not yet a warfighting organisation" and needs to "create an awareness of the battlespace", according to its commander. Its commander, Major-General Richard Webber, a former nuclear-missile and satellite-jamming officer, may well have admit and accept that increased operational awareness of the virtual battlespace dictates and delivers that it and IT are not suitable spaces for warfighting organisations and are progressively more counterproductive and catastrophically self-destructive .
I read "virtual" every time I see "cyber" and it suddenly makes much more sense. No, not the buzzword, just the normal meaning.
Maybe we'll just have to wait until the whole 'net turns into second life so they can actually play hide-and-seek in expensive virtual camo before this'll catch on. Or maybe we'll find that the camo only works if your graphics card is the very latest in pixelmongery.
“One year ago this month we had a wake-up call in cyberspace," said the general. "We had a severe intrusion into the Defense networks. It changed the way people are thinking about cyberspace. This time it’s everybody’s problem — every soldier, sailor, airman and Marine."
Rubbish.
There is a spending program, it is paid for with 'QE' money, i.e. printed. It needs to be funnelled into the US economy. The only big parts of the US economy left are food and military.
They are a net importer of IT goods now. If they pumped money into that it would suck in imports. They are a net importer of Chinese goods in most other sectors, so any money spent there would drain into China. Oil? Cars? Clothes? Gas? Nope, net importer in all areas.
Military? Well now there's something. They cannot import Chinese weapons because the Chinese are not trusted, hence putting the money into the military will keep it in the US economy.
Likewise *cyberwar*, if you put money into broadband, then it imports Chinese routers & firewalls, but put it into fighting *cyberwars* and suddenly you can pay Raytheon $28 million for a firewall/net monitor, that would be cheaper from Taiwan and nobody bats an eyelid.
So you can see the rhetoric here, if they print 5% more money, then they need to grow their internal economy by 5% to stop the US$ dropping by that value. Fail to do that and you can print all the money in the world and you're simply diluting your US$ and killing faith in that currency -> currency collapse.
But do you imagine anyone is fooled by this?
I note the Teabag Republicans refer to the Stimulus measures as "Obama Stimulus" which means they realize now that it cannot work. (It was the Paulsons stimulus originally from Bush/Cheney). So even they realize now the folly of that.

Take a look. It's not pretty, and don't think Brown's printing is going to be anymore successful (he's created £200billion extra funny money now and he still has no prospect of getting re-elected).

On the plus side, at least it's not a real war against a real enemy that Faber fears.

The Magic Secret for Success is in what New Adventures the created £200billion extra funny money now resides. If it is salted away in the same leaky vaults as before, will it drained away as easily again compounding losses from a Basically Flawed System....... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/BASIC.

And any (just one, generally) request by notepad.exe dated by 2008 is just a sorry mystification and a response to the known actions, which, of course, were done just for doing a supposedly right thing.
