Ok, and...
... what exactly is the big deal?
A secret scene in the fantasy game Dragon Age: Origins shows a male character getting down to some hot same-sex action with an elf, The Telegraph titters today. The scene, hailed by some as progressive and derided by others as "ewww icky", is accessed when a player seduces the warrior Zevran with the right combination of …
it isn't a secret it's just another path, just becouse they havn't advertised it doesn't make it a secret, and it's pretty obvious there's a gay path after a few dialogs. Maybe it's a giant secret for people who havn't paid any attention to the game but with all the fanboys fapping over the title I've heard ample about it since it came out, along with their lulz at the gay elf.
Do you mean that paen to sex bringing you closer to God/the centre of life by Nine Inch Nails (Closer?)
"Help me become somebody else"?
If I AM correct you can skip the prize though - Sex in second life takes you further away from the centre of life, not closer.
If I'm not correct it was a cute story anyway.
sex in any game is bloody pointless unless you can join in. do something like a "track n field" button masher to keep a stroke in time or whatever. in either model of copulation stop trying to do this crappy fade out stuff. if he's going to get one up the old chocolate starfish then don't wuss out. I mean i bet there's load of slaying and blood and gore and crap going on in the rest of the game, don't go pussy (*hah) and blank this stuff out.
can never understand why various forms of killing people in excrutiating detail across all media is entertainment, yet an erect cock is an attack on society and we will all burn in hell if we see it, let alone if it is attached to its designated recepticle (or something else that fits if you are that way inclined).
I will have you hear I am not so gentle with them twinkie Alliance fairies. I am Tauren and am well hung as many a night elf hath so thus discovered and have so since walked funny.
Mooooooooooooo!
Troll, because... they are well FOR THE HORDE.
(BTW they are of course, not as well hung. Neither are the orcs)
I'm absolutely astonished that this is even remotely newsworthy in 2009 ...
On the other hand, the two married guys (snuck in under the wire, before Prop 8 unfortunately passed) who live on the property adjacent to my Wife's rose garden, find it absolutely tragic ... they tell me that somewhere, there is a gay game designer who is still in the closet ...
This is surprisingly accurate for the fighting role playing games. It has been proven that exclusively male fighting forces tend to convert to homosexual behaviour in the long run, a bit comparable to prison i guess. So to have a videogame be this realistic, kudos.... As Kirk Lazarus said in Tropic Thunder: "Everbody's gay sometime", though that was a comedy and may therefore not be entirely true.
Kudos to Bioware for discovering the 21st century but, really, isn't limiting our choice to the elf just a tad ... stereotypical? Alistair would be more my fancy.
Still, it's a step forward from Knights of the Old Republic, where my yearning for Carth Onassi went unrequited.
Oh wait, the game is 18 rated. Old enough to do it, not old enough to make 2 bags of pixels to it. Curious.
When I bought my copy in GAME, the staff were checking IDs (Same for MW2). Doesn't seem to stop the media thinking games are for little Timmy. (Actually, it doesn't seem to stop the squeaky 12 year olds I hear on MW2 voice chat either).
It is sad that this is considered an "event". It is however pretty uncommon, and don't start using girl on girl same sex relationships or action to disagree. Girl on girl is titilating to many men, and is probably more generally accepted as an on screen thing. Hell star trek (DS9 anyway) had girl on girl kissing, but no guy on guy.
Depending on your choice of character (male or female) you get three possible romances:
A male character gets:
- Female Witch
- Female Bard
- Male Rogue
A female character gets:
- Male Templar
- Female Bard
- Male Rogue
So yes as there are two bi characters you can also achieve a lesbian scene, but since they already did that in a previous RPG (Mass Effect) and garnered the same bizarre outcry then it clearly isn't as newsworthy.
It's also hardly a secret scene, the relevant parties start flirting with you from the get go and there is an achievement for exploring all possible romances. You can also manage up to two love conquests in a play through too so you get to break hearts as well. Ironically in one scenario you can send your lover to his death.
If you've got the special edition dvd extras, there's a vid of un-named male character engaging in rumpy pumpy with a Darkspawn (essentially an Orc for those who havent played it). Im sure that falls foul of the extreme porn laws.
Wont somebody think of the children who's parents bought them this smut!
"....Call of Duty: Don't Ask, Don't Tell." Hehe, excellent!
Looks like the DA:O distributors hit on a good way to get lots of free publicity - stick in a gay scene, let a few people know, and then just sit back and let the "community" do the rest! I doubt if I would even have heard of DA:O in the slew of other releases hitting the stores in time for Christmas, so I suppose it worked to an extent, even if I don't buy the product. As it is, I am considering a new game now that Blizzard have effectively killed twinks in WoW (no, not that kinda twink!), but gay sex scenes are not much of a selling point, thanks. Is the actual game itself any good?
"It is people like these that want to press their sexuality onto your children in 1st grade."
::rolls eyes::
How many times did your shaman thump his bible when he brainwashed you into repeating that? Seriously! Do you, personally, or anyone you know, know about anybody trying to impress any kind of sexual agenda into first-graders[1] (~6 year-olds, here in the US). Because if you do, I respectfully suggest contacting local law enforcement, rather than posting here on ElReg, which is kinda out of your "1st grade" geographical location/jurisdiction. Despite what your right-wing DJ (Rush, Liddy, et alia) or Faux News tells you.
For the record, I'm middle aged, married to a fine lady, have a kid and grandkids, was raised Lutheran, totally reject xtian teaching, but apply most of the ethos & ethics that Jesus (amongst others, the Buddha being a prime example, Muhammad being another) were trying to teach, to my day-to-day life.
"Do unto others ... " springs to mind. As does the "first stone" theory. To say nothing of turning the other cheek ... None of which xtians seem to follow ...
[1] Bible-thumping xtians excepted, of course![2])\
[2] But somehow THAT is allowed ... WTF?
