Charge for MySpace?
Aren't the majority of MySpace users in their teens, and therefore have little income to be spending on a social networking site when they could use Facebook for free?

Yeah, that'll work. Assuming those sites are hawking porn that's somehow perceived as better than what's available for free. Otherwise, I suspect charging for content will just drive the masses elsewhere even faster. The killer app, after all, seems to have turned out to be "stuff for free," much to the corporations' annoyance...

i think the reality is that the main reason why it's not making money is because they are trying to run some large company with thousands of staff in dozens of offices around the world, to do what? fill in paperwork required to set up and run offices??
it's a bloddy website! you have your hosting costs, then you need a handful of staff at most to handle maintenance/upgrades, PR and marketing
you certainly can make money from free websites and ad revenue, but not if you think the goal of a company is to spend money hiring more staff and then spending even more money setting up offices all over the world for them to work in!
