Invasion of Privacy?

Surely public disclosure of any sexual preferences or personal information not relevant to the case should not be allowed? Does this not constitute an invasion of privacy?

It seems unfair to use irrelevant information to undermine the status of the defendant.

I further do not see why the police needed to browse the disk?

Any thoughts?

btw I thought "the freshly released evidence" was the contents of the nappies!

I've often thought that some of the stuff that comes out in court cases is irrelevant and unnecessary. And how strange that this only happens when the additional "information" would cast the accused in a bad/unusual light. Who gives a damn whether she enjoys having 9-volt batteries strapped to her nipples? Does that have anything at all to do with her spraying pepper spray at someone? The Police should have found the disc, left it alone (as it wasn't technically evidence) and certainly not used this info in the "case."

Once more an invasion of privacy and spilling of the found beans, I wonder just how happy the cops would be if all their little skeletons were let out of the closet?

This case has been dragging on for ages, surely the little orange tablets would have been tested by now? My bet is that they are harmless vitamin C and that it's more damaging to leak them as unidentified.

Now a days if you're arrested for anything and you're found to have computer media of some sort on you, it seems like responsible policing and really just common sense to at least briefly search the media.

She's on trial for attempted kidnap, if the intended victim was a child or even if they "just" found child porn on the disk rather than some bondage pics, I can't see anybody complaining.

If I'm arrested, at the very least I expect to have my wallet searched and if it's for anything serious (such as attempted kidnap), my mobile phone at least briefly looked at and any sort of computer media I have on me checked since they can hold incriminating evidence of whatever I was arrested for or other crimes (not that I've ever committed any crimes, I'm even running a legal version of XP... honest guv). I'm those people who has a habit of going on rants about the big brother state and I'll strongly support my right to privacy, but the police need to do their job.

The real issue here is why this information was leaked/released to the media, before the trail, which is an issue both here (the UK) and in the US.

It did make me laugh and it only hurt somebody that's done what most geeks can only dream of (no, not sex) and if she really wanted to she could sell her story (who wouldn't want to watch a movie about an astronaut who drove across the US in nappies to kidnap somebody?) so I'm not going to lose any sleep over it, but then again I can be a complete bastard at times :)

It makes you wonder if she joined up with NASA purely for the outfits rather than the science or the glory. The tight, tight space undergarments; the smothering space suit; the luscious, constricting space hammock etc. Did she do any work at all when she was up there in space? Did she distract her fellow astronauts? How long before Playboy signs her up for a pictorial (or Leg Show)?
