If he doesn't get a job

What's he gonna do for the rest of his life? Twoc cars? Hack cash dispensers?

There's this concept of *rehabilitation*. Anyway, the judge rightly thought that making work for a few geeks wasn't up there with violent crime, and gave him the lowest penalty available (conviction and discharge) that would stop the 'merkins from extraditing him. (Double jeopardy and that).

I cannot wait for the ../ comment

who cares, most of the human race cannot be trusted, the reason he won't crack is because he is being paid not to.

Loyalty is bought it is that simple. If someone has the talent for this you want them on a payroll, not looking to bring the system down.

    Hire a skiddie shall we?

Why dont we hire all the skiddies out there!

Instead of the ones with the REAL knowledge.

    Well, maybe he’s "rehabilitated"...

...but it's still obnoxious for a downtrodden ethical bloke like myself to behold. SPLITTER!

    Acutally

He is 19, not 16. He was 16 when he started creating botnets... 3 years ago. Funny thing, time.

I don't see what the problem is. Hire a thief to catch a thief is one of the oldest sayings around. Bear in mind that akill has Apserger's, which may have affected his ability to interpret right and wrong (or at least the impact of his actions on other people). Giving him work in this domain may be all that he needs to keep him away from the dark side. Even the police have talked about giving him a job.

    Keeping up with the #1

They're just trying to keep up with Telecom NZ, which long ago hired most of NZ's skript kiddie community, because they were the only people who will work for the company,

    @AC

Er, nope. TCL hired him because they've realised that they are about as much use as a cat flap in an elephant house and are desperate to do ANYTHING to change the game. They haven't got a clue.

Next stop will be hiring witch doctors.

    Don't be too critical

Theres an old saying - to catch a thief, you need to think like one!

Theres nobody better at this than an ex-criminal.

    A Hacker?

I have heard that Hacker is NOT a criminal type but a tinkerer who tweaks computer programs etc. to make them run better, faster and all that.

The term Cracker is supposed to be used for the malicious , criminal scum like this new employee of our beloved Telecom.
