Second Life has announced it will "geographically separate" adult content so it's accesible "only to those who ought to (and who desire to) access it". Linden Labs says it'll build the Sadville porn concentration camp, aka the "Adult Continent", over the next few months. It explains: The system we build will have three main …

    Main continent, new content

Need lots of tumbleweed spawners on the main continent then.

    So... what will be left?

I suppose there'll be a small square of non-adult content somewhere, devoid of visitors.

    Still going?

Second Life still going? Well stone me!

Still enjoying First (Real) Life myself...

    Name change?

Maybe we should stop referring to SL as "Sadville" and start using "WankWorld" instead?

    Erm

I think you'll find it's called Paedov Isle.

    Adult content?

You mean there's going to be a big sign that says, "F off out of here and get to work, you sad barsteward!"?

Doomed, they either charge or expect CC numbers to access in which case it will die on the vine or doomed because they don't and everyone just hangs out in Wankerland.

    So it goes

I think their true intent is obvious. They talk about giving people the ability to control what type of content they see, but clearly requiring credit card payments has nothing whatever to do with that goal.

I can't say I'm surprised though. SL had the kind freedom that only exists on a frontier. Like the "Wild West" it has now been settled and ceased to be a frontier. Here comes the long arm of the law. "Protecting" the children is probably only the first step.

    Still there ?

    >Second Life still going? Well stone me!

Words may be different but thats my reaction, thought SL had died ages ago. Maybe i should reinstall the client and see if its any more inviting now...

Nah, theres more real life in UserNet !

    So

One continent of furries, flying penises etc. and anyone who actually enjoys second life.

The old continent for the hundred or so misguided, overenthusiastic academics who want to be down with the kids and give their lectures using these cool new web 2.0 thingys (while actually sitting comfortably in their office drinking tea).

Is it the first of April already?

Or is it Sadvillites who are the fools?

You couldn't make it up. Unless El Reg did.

    "Mature" parcels?

I thought the "flagging" option has been there since at least 2006. I don't see why geographical separation is necessary. If anything, those who don't want to see "adult" content should be able to put some option for that, and SL would automatically lock them out from the "Mature" areas.

    Meh.

    Make all adult content invisible...

to those that choose not to see it. If you want to see adult content, you will be able to see all the contents, both regular and adult. If you don't, all the adult portions everywhere should be 'erased'.

Ok, I am thinking 'autocad frozen layers' of sorts.

( It avoids geographical separation, and creates some technical problems, perhaps? )
