back to article Yahoo! tosses! video! ads! into! search! engine!

Yahoo!'s second-rate search engine will soon add video, images, and other "rich" goodies to its pay-per-click advertisements. In December, the company launched a Rich Ads in Search program among a small number of advertisers, and according to a Yahoo! blog post, click-through rates rose "as much as" 25 per cent. "Ever since …

    Microhoo is dust

Ballmer only ever wanted to be able to take the Yahoo search numbers, add them to the MS search numbers, and proclaim that he has a bigger search todger than Google,

That was possible back when MS + Yahoo search were greater than Google.

Now Google has apprpox 70% of search. Why in the world would Ballmer buy Yahoo just to show that MS + Yahoo together are only a chipolata not even half the size of a Googlewurst.

    Distractions

One of the reasons I started filtering banner ads was when they stopped being static images and instead became flickering, annoying distractions. How are video ads going to improve on this, especially if I end up on a capped broadband deal? Even more incentive not to download the stuff. Hopefully they'll all use Silverlight instead of Flash, so I won't even have to take positive action.

    What if ...

what if I search for "video ads". And Y! shows some ads in the results... should I be disappointed ?

Well.. I don't mind video ads if they start in "pause mode"... (unlike the Gifs The Register has been throwing lately ;)

Paris, coz a 30 min video ad on internet created her.

    Sound?

The videos will presumably start playing automatically. Hopefully they won't allow them to have any audio. There's no better way for a search engine to commit suicide than playing advertising jingles every time someone uses it. (Displaying random porn comes close, but hasn't killed Cuil yet.)

    Whatever.

    I'll stick to metacrawler.com, TYVM.

No, I'm not affiliated, don't have a stake in it, etc ... it just works for me. YMMV, as always.

    Stop! using! excalmations!

Please, please, please ..... refrain from using exclamation marks on every single Yahoo story. it is beyond tired at this stage. So annoying in fact that I registered with you just to be able to make this comment.

    Yawn, Adblock

Right-click, adblock - strip URL back to server address, no more silly video adverts.

Don't get to see adverts to click on them -- some pages can get rather thin with little 'adblock' tabs all over the place.

    @terry doyle

Terry, welcome. You forgot to mention "Paris, because..." or make a witty reference to getting your coat.
