Decloaking the Invader ... Unfrocking the Impaler
I wonder if such a meeting has anything to do with the fact that aliens can spirit money away to Beta Causes with their spooky Global Operating Device technologies?
The Vatican is to go head to head with Nasa over the possibility of life existing anywhere else in the Universe except Earth. The discussion is actually likely to be rather convivial when Lynn Rothschild, astrobiologist at NASA's Ames Research Center, debates the topic with the Vatican Observatory's director emeritus George …
Getting paid to be an "astrobiologist" is a great scam. I know that first hand. It's kind of like being paid to be a "Plant Neurobiologist" (or "Neurobotanist") - a purely speculative field making much ado about nothing. But since NASA funds it, one might as well take their money!
I was gonna rant and rave and foam at the mouth about a couple confusing sentences - especially the one that implies they're going to debate a topic they're both open to? sounds like a boring debate...
But then I read the comments and realized - Duh! This broaches the topic of religion, so everyone will just read whatever they want out of it, regardless of what is actually written.
Carry on!
I don't know what the official position (or whether there is one) of Protestant sects is, but a few years ago I saw a "presentation" by some local creationist/intelligent design chap (aka IDiots) here in the USA on the possibility of life on Mars (and elsewhere). He was some type of engineer, by the way. Go figure, could as well have been a butcher or whatever.
Anyway, his stupid idea was that there can't be life in other places because god would have to give his son's life once in each planet to save those other creatures too. And god cannot afford to do that.
Now, besides sounding stupid, I suspect he committed some type of blasphemy too. His weakling god cannot afford something, really? I'd invent a better god than that, if I wanted to have invisible friends.
Chuckle? I positively laughed out loud at that one.
Possibly still in communion with God eh? Can you imagine meeting our extraterrestrial neighbours only to discover that they had irrefutable proof that it was only ever Baal all along?
Try explaining that one to the Pope ...... bad call Moses!
But then just imagine how we'd all feel if the only Prophet that ever became vindicated turned out to be David Icke ............ now THAT would be a hat eating moment!
A curious but ultimately inevitable topic when you think of it; @Peyton is absolutely right:
For all practical purposes how would a godless universe actually differ than the one we already seem to reside in ........ could you even tell them apart?
Logical consistancy can be a real mutha too because, irrespective of your particular faith (or indeed lack of one), when it comes to matters of religion the overwhelmingly majority of the planet must logically be completely misguided and fundimantally wrong!
A cliche I know, but for any one religion to be proved right would immediately render all the others profoundly wrong; and that would be irrespective of anyone's personal conviction or absolute faith. And please lets don't bandy that falacious western liberal viewpoint that all religions are merely local variations of the same thing ...... because that just doesn't hold water at all
If its self-evidentally normal for the vast majority of the planet to go through life so profoundly mistaken and misinformed in their particular faith, what possible criteria could you ever rely upon to ensure that YOU are backing the right horse?
Or put another way ..... and with my trolls hat firmly on:
Imagine if Satan's greatest achievement was in pursuading a gullible universe that God exists? Now that would be cruel .......... or is that just a rose by any other name?
I think the absolute tosh being spouted by the Catholic Church should not be confused with the people who just want to believe in something (either their 'God' or their Alien life form). The Catholic church (and ALL organised religions) seem to want to make themselves contraversial, perhaps to keep themsleves in the headlines. It has worked with other organisaitons and although some of the headline busters have been extreme and murderous it still keeps them in our minds.
At this time there is no proof either way as to the existence of either God(s) or aliens, regardless of the balance of probabilities
Dont confuse religion or religious belief with being a member of any church or religion.
Reid,
Make the tea

With a title like Rothschild, one has to assume that astrobiologists are at least open to the idea of life on other planets.
And at most..?
What are the odds that if the Alien Greys arrived on a mission to redeem, or alternatively to Mbrace-Xtend-Xtinguish (which may or may not be tantamount to the same thing - depending on who occupies the shoes at your PoV), that the first place they will hit is Vatican City.
(After which, it'll be the casino at Monte Carlo, hehe. lol)
I know .... it was intended to be a play on words.
It rather puts me in mind of a recent converstaion I had with a staunch Jebus follower. As a proof of God I was told that, by definition, athiests simply could not exist in a godless universe:
Apparently, without the existence of God athiests wouldn't have anything left NOT to believe in and so therefore would not be able to exist themselves!!
Hmm, I thought that too! :-)
Funnily enough, only yesterday, I found that very quote on another website but in that particular case they were making use of it to send up theist logic and not to defend them.
Funny old multiverse eh?
