    laptop?

If a CIA "station chief" hasn't learned how to keep incriminating evidence off a laptop, the guy deserves to hang, or at the very least to get tortured (sorry, "subjected to enhanced interrogation"). Not for what he is alleged to have done, but for sheer bloody incompetence as a so-called "spy".

    The boy is screwed

I would like to see him tried in those countries . Only because their jails are much harsher .

    Not as screwed...

...as he would be if the US had signed up for the ICC. Instead they've joined China and Russia in pleading "Special And Different".

    Copy and paste redacted text!

If anyone's interested in what's been redacted (it's not that exciting) from the linked affidavit, you can just copy and paste the hidden text! Great security.

their secret successes are teh bomb, though

Good for the CIA, still recruiting reprobates and fools after all these decades.

Absolutely, this ass should be repatriated to Egypt for trial there, then after sentencing, to Algeria for trial there. He is a convert to Islam, according to ABC, so trying him under anything but Sharia makes no sense.

We in the US are told again and again that their secret victories are most excellent, and we just need not to notice all the torturing, disappearing, drug-dealing, raping and assassinating they're up to.

    @redacted AC

You can do the same with the McKinnon docs- there's a PDF floating about on (iirc) the DoJ website that has a whole bunch of military sites & IPs at those sites "hidden away" by being black on a black background.

So someone in the gov't being useless enough to leave incriminating evidence on a Laptop really isn't that surprising.

Alternatively, it's a honey trap to catch the useless and stupid in the hacking community.

    What's the problem?

He's been practising standard CIA interrogation techniques in his spare time - shouldn't they reward him for it?

"so trying him under anything but Sharia makes no sense"...

unfortunatley the women will be treated as adultresses and stoned to death, he will claim they seduced him and get away scott free.

    Reassuring

It's very reassuring that the Diplomatic Security Service of the United States Department of State has such knowledge of digital information that they redact texts in this way..

Is there a reason the CIA exists?

Aside from supporting rightwing American politicians in their delusions, torturing people and participating in the drug market?

Exclusive - CIA spooks have sex too!

The IT angle presumably being that this proves they are not nerds. Wow. And so Reg slithers into the pachyderm trap that has already gobbled up Big Media, of making hyperreal "news" out of tropes and stereotypes. The real story is much deeper - the "sex" scandal is just a time-honoured way of putting the knife into someone. Evidently something's happening down in Algeria. And it's not called Roger.
